A theory that's come up in the comments section for this comic posits that in Chapter 3, when Reynardine jumped out of Sivo's body, he actually *meant* to end up in the wolf toy, and the bit about stealing Annie's body was just a ruse. I never thought that theory seemed likely, despite the fact that his behavior toward Annie at all other times ranges from grudging respect to almost paternal protectiveness and that everything we know indicates that he was genuinely very fond of Surma.
But people in the comments have pointed out that Reynardine took notice of Annie's wolf doll when he first met her on the roof, and since at that point no one except him knew that he could possess anything with eyes, jumping to a stuffed animal might have seemed like the perfect escape plan: make everyone think you died in a failed body-snatching attempt, and then run off in a body no one expects you to be in (unfortunately, he didn't anticipate the effect that Annie's ownership of the wolf doll would have).
And that got me to thinking: if he was really planning on snatching Antimony's body and escaping that way, why would he announce it to her ("Yes yes, time for all that later. I DO need your help. In fact, what I need is... YOUR BODY!"), especially when Eglamore had just left the jail cell and was likely to be within earshot? In fact, why not talk a little longer and *then* jump to Antimony's body, waiting until he was sure Eggers was out of range? Unless... he was counting on being overheard and 'thwarted' in his body-stealing attempt! I wouldn't put it past him to be that tricky, if what Coyote says about Reynardine is true.
I don't know if this theory has come up before on the forums, but if it hasn't... what do you think? A viable hypothesis, or the stuff of Wild Speculation? Is it sensible, or am I just up too late?
Edit: Woooops, I just re-read the thread from the previous comic and saw that Rasselas has said this already, although much more concisely than I did. *grumble*
