I suspect that the nature of the invitation means it would be undiplomatic for Annie to refuse Coyote's hospitality.

In fact, I think he'd do exactly the same thing for a male student. His action is not remotely lecherous, but unconsciously egalitarian. The problem is that treating male and female students in exactly the same way doesn't work too well. (Accidently) Touching the chest of a male student while removing his tie isn't problematic at all. Now do the same thing to a female student.

People, it's a comic, enough with the PC crap. I've done martial arts and I'm going to kick... erm, it's a male dominated sport and there is ALL kinds of touching and people just learn not to get their panties in a bunch over it. This PC touchiness is annoying. Next thing I hear will be about how it's forbidden for a male to give mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to a female person, because it might be misconstrued as a sexual advance.

Yeah but tying a tie is no martial art.

If you ask me, that's even less reason for it to be misconstrued as anything but a joke.

She looks a lot like the horrible Liefeld image of Captain America with the amazing swing-out chest.

Makes me wonder... what would have happened if she accepted the armour... maybe Eggers without thinking would have tried to "help her" in.... talk about awkward Dunno, but Eggers and Jones in the same place, like in pannel 2, look like real sweet together, it also would be a Greek mithology thing, the opposities coming togerther and all... I wish my school or college had a room like that

Boy, Jones sure goes out of her way to find creative ways to get Annie pissed at her.

It helps her guage her personality.
and have fun all at the same time. She enjoys James presence. Thats very clear despite her lack of facial expressions.

What time of day is this happening? We haven't seen outside yet, but for some reason I keep thinking that this is happening really early in the morning. Eglamore looks kinda like he was sleeping/exercising.

Eglamore looks kinda like he was sleeping/exercising. I'd suspect the latter, or something similar. That guy works hard.

That last panel seems like Ann is like saying "Ahem, Personal space?"

Let me just be the first (maybe) to say: I'd like to see Annie in that armor. Let me be the second.

I get the impression that Annie's frown is directed at Eglamore. At the same time, Jones is clearly (and successfully) trolling them both by putting an image in their heads that wasn't there before.

I think the frown could go either way, and is funny either way. It makes more sense for it to be directed at Eggers, because he is looking at her, but in the end, I don't think its that big of a deal.
(Also, I think my school has a secret armory behind a few locked doors)

A few random thoughts. If Annie had accepted the Armour, Eglamore would have had to do a lot more than help her with her tie. Especially for someone inexperienced in wearing it, Armour is just about impossible to put on by yourself. Even those who COULD get their own harness on often had someone to help.
(Actually an issue fresh in my mind: I do armoured combat reenactment, and injured myself a bit this weekend trying to put someone else's harness on without assistance, as I had left mine at home. Caught my hand in an articulation and took a chunk out of a finger)
If the Armour is actually from the 16th century or so, then it's really a pretty typical adult size. A lot of the ones I've seen in museums have been way too small to fit the average modern adult, as modern folks are a bit larger on average. It looks extra tiny as well because Eglamore is holding it. He's more my size.
My impression is that Jones is just needling them a bit. She's said in the past that she was trying to make Annie angry: perhaps she's testing a bit to see if she's got enough control to face Coyote on his own turf. If she doesn't like the reaction, perhaps Wednesday we'll see her trying to talk Annie out of her trip.

Perhaps she's testing to make sure than Annie will get angry, rather than flustered, embarrassed, or meek. Angry, but not explosively so.

While it might seem cruel to throw the sexuality bomb out there, Jones knows that Coyote isn't going to be holding it back. He'd already nosed under Annie's skirts. Jones, I believe, is always testing others. Possibly to ensure that everyone is at their best.

Next thing I hear will be about how it's forbidden for a male to give mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to a female person, because it might be misconstrued as a sexual advance. Well, actually, people have been sued for removing an unconscious woman's blouse in order to be able to properly give her CPR. Of course those charges were dismissed before they even went to court. Anybody with half a brain should agree that this is taking it way too far, but still, there are always some people who do just that. All they would need right now is the wrong person to walk by that armory in this moment and see them and both Eggers and Jones could be in serious trouble.

Eightyfour, I just think all of that is incredibly stupid and should not be involved in the interpretation of this comic. Tyler's and Per's comments just above are perfect. And Tetsamaru, about the personal space.

I agree that Jones has to be testing Annie. She might also be testing Eggers for similar reasons. He may well be escorting her like he escorted Ysengrim and Coyote into the meeting hall. She needs him in as tip-top form as she needs Annie to be aware of the challenging situations she may walk into. And, whoever said he turns into a bumbling idiot around anyone resembling Surma brings up an interesting point. Note that he yelled "Surma!" instead of "Annie!" or whatever, when she fell off the bridge? That's how strong a hold the past has on him. And in the current situation, that could be quite dangerous. Also, note that Jones told him that he had to watch his step with Annie. Now we see why.

Was he so casual with removing Annie's tie because he was once accustomed to greater liberties with Surma?

Huh, I just realized: Annie is frowning at Jones, not James. [Reading comprehension necessary] You cant see where her face is turned because she is missing the nose Why would she be frowning at Jones, when its James who is still holding her tie.

Was he so casual with removing Annie's tie because he was once accustomed to greater liberties with Surma? My thought was more along the line of "Tie? I changed her diaper!" Catch is: that was Eglamore-the-family-friend, this is Eglamore-the-teacher. Sometimes context matters.

Maybe Annie was going to let an honest mistake slide, then Jones made it all awkward by pointing it out. Or maybe Annie was about to say something to Eggers, and she's mad at Jones for butting in. Annie's face doesn't turn between the last two panels.
