Nice idea, Chrome, but it lacks one detail: What about Annie's cut? Zimmy couldn't possibly know about this, so she would not be able to make it appear in her "fantasy" world, not even on a subconscious level. Zimmy's abilities must have something to do with revealing what is supposed to be hidden, as she said herself. Who knows what lurks under the layers of reality, and what part of that might be "chosen" to be uncovered by Zimmy?

maybe the cut was only on an etheric realm in the first place.
Maybe it's a permanent feature.

Well, the 'person' that cuts Annie's face was a ghost, or spirit or something....maybe the cut exists only on the same plane that the nobodies exist, and normal people cannot see it. However, Z might cause things to manifest around her that are not normally on the 'normal' plane, and now that Gamma is gone, those things are free to exist unchecked. Scar included.
Who knows, maybe Z is part nobody, yo. She does have the eyes.

I had a similar thought about all this being only in Zimmy's head. Panel 3 in yesterday's page suggests that. Also don't forget that Annie herself has some powers that are not unlike Gamma's. So if Gamma can affect the creation of Zimmy's mind, it is safe to asume Annie can do that too (hence why Zimmy wants Annie to make the nobodies go away - she can do it). Therefore it would be quite possible that something else could subconciously "spill over" from Annie's mind to Zimmy's, which could explain why the cut is there. As to why exactly the cut and not something else? I figure the cut has a certain significance as it is the only instance (as far as I can remember), where Annie was physically attacked and hurt by another person (if you can call the White Lady a person). Well, that's all completely speculative of course. I don't think Zimmy has any direct relation to the nobodies (other than that they haunt her and scare the living daylight outta her). Granted, they both have black stuff where their eyes should be, and an unhealthy complexion. But the "design" of the black stuff is quite different. Zimmy's looks more like shadows, while the nobodies seem to have holes, parts of their faces missing. Also, Zimmy's does not leave trails when she moves. It might of course only be a preliminary state, but nah, I just don't think so.

Ya know that all this reminds me of?
THE LANGOLIERS.
This place feels like an etheric after-image.

Last two comics remind me of a JAGS wonderland, a rpg freely available on the interweb (http://www.jagsrpg.org/) it is not a easy setting to describe, let's just say that in it reality is divided in 8 different levels, or chessboards, chessboard zero is our reality, and the deeper you go the weirder things get, and sometime some special kind of people (called "unsane") can "fell into a crack in reality" and end in one of the lower chessboards bringing everyone near down with him/her, even the nobodies could easily have a place in those chessboards. Of course is not a exact match but the similiarity are enough to make me raise an eyebrow.

Well, Tom did not invent the concept of alternate realities, but he puts it to good use.

If we're seeing Zimmy's memories here, as seems likely (that's what happened all the other times) these are probably just twisted memories of people she saw in Birmingham. Maybe they were unkind to her in some way, but she' probably just afraid of them because look freaky as all get out.
I really hope we see more of these MIB guys.

Yeah, but assuming it's all in her head, how did Zimmy know about the cut back then? No one told Zimmy about it (to our knowledge), she just looked at Annie and it was there.

Yes, but how did she discover the cut back then in the first place, if her abilities are only based on her own mind? I think Chrome's theory lacks a connection to the real world (I mean, GC's real world) (or aetherical world, or where ever this cut hides from view).
Let's not split hairs, all I wanted to say is that we are still far from completely understanding Zimmy.

I'm really hoping this little adventure sheds some light on Zimmy and Gamma. I think they're two of the most interesting characters in Gunnerkrig Court. I'd like to know what Zimmy is. What IS that black stuff in her eyes ? Darkness ? Ooze ? Filth ? Both ? What does rain have to do with her (I mean.. her head smokes and she suddenly has eyes when she's being rained on) This storyline is getting very interesting.
