This universe isn't being disrupted by Annie touching it. Even Zimmy's clothes. That's bad. It may have stopped being an illusion. It never was just an illusion. Quote Zimmy from strip #191: "When it gets bad things start to change, like for real". Yeah, but Annie's powers interfered with it before, restoring things she touched to their normal state. Much like the situation with the ghost back in the hospital. That suggests that, at that time, the changes Zimmy was causing were not really "real." Yet. This time things are more solid, and that's what I mean. The effect has crossed the line to actually change REALITY. We knew it could happen, but the fact that it went this far this FAST is a bad sign. This is a more powerful change than any we've seen, yet it happened in just an instant. If Annie can't disrupt it even slightly, it's possible that this is even beyond Gamma's power.

That suggests that, at that time, the changes Zimmy was causing were not really "real." Yet. I suspect that Zimmy's illusions/hallucinations/visions (illucivisions?) are different from Martin's illusions; such that in Zimmy's case, Annie's reality-restoring power is more a function of her proximity to Zimmy (the source) than to the visions themselves. That would explain why, under Zimmy's influence, that cut reappeared directly on Annie, and then it disappeared when Zimmy leaned in to take a closer look. As for whether this is real, or an illusion, or just the inside of Zimmy's head, I can't begin to guess. And it probably doesn't matter -- it seems real enough.

Now that is pretty unreasonable of Annie. They don't have the first clue where to look for whom, so how can they possibly look for any person in particular? All they can do is look for someone. What are they gonna do if they're "looking for Kat" and happen to bump into Willie for example? Say "sorry Willie, you're gonna have to wait right there, we're looking for Kat right now"? Just what I thought as well, although I'd say they're both being equally unreasonable. Annie's just a lot more insistent that they go along with her particular unreasoning. The conversation appears totally nonsensical. It feels like this situation was lifted directly from the thousands of other stories, shows, and movies where the characters *do* know where their respective friends are, (The Dark Knight, to name a recent one) without consideration for the fact that it didn't actually make sense here.

If it were me, I'd go for my friend over some other person's friend. Especially if it were the person who got me into the situation we were in, regardless of whether it was their fault or not.
Although, here, it doesn't really matter. They've got an equal chance of running into anybody. It's just a wish that they find one over the other. (both at the same time?)

Perhaps Annie is reacting to rescuing Kat the same way Kat did when Annie fell off the bridge. It might be selfish of Annie to demand it, but I agree with the argument that Gamma can hold her own in Zimmy's monster world whereas Kat would be more vunerable.

"Also, Zimmy, how about some explanations, hm?"

I know someone already mentioned something about eyeshadow, but it looks to me like Annie's eyes are starting to just barely show hints of doing what Zimmy's eyes do. Immediate thought: Zimmy's world is making her more like whatever Zimmy is? Subsequent thought: Annie and Zimmy are fundamentally the same kind of thing? Maybe that's what the eye shadow is: Annie simply guards against that kind of darkness in her far better than Zimmy ever bothered to (or knew how to).

That's a bit interesting. I hadn't noticed Zimmy had a white-circle-on-white-shirt until she kept the circle (a patch?) when she shifted realities.

Or maybe there was monsoonal rain in the page before, and it melted Annie eyeshadow, as we see quite clearly.

I was thinking the same thing intitially, but if take a closer look, you can see that those lines are the same color as her eye shadow. BUT It'll be interestign to see whether this gets worse. If so, it'd mean they're somehow still standing in the rain and all this is just an illusion to some extent.

Assuming things don't go horribly wrong, I imagine this adventure might bring Annie and Kat a bit closer to their Queslett classmates.
Zimmy might be able to earn some sympathy points with the other students as well, assuming she isn't too much of a jerk to them.

She hasn't really lost her eye shadow yet. It's sort of dripping down the sides of her face. Oh, right, I thought that was just my dirty screen.

I'm probably so completely off here, but I was just re-browsing the archives of GC and saw the page where Reynardine called Zimmy a demon. (I don't know how accurate that is though, but for the sake of my argument let's say she is.) Annie's cut from the ghost has only appeared now that Zimmy's nearby, right? Maybe Zimmy just brings in sort of a world for ghosts (like corpse bride) when she loses it because she actually belongs to that world but her psychic ties to Gamma keep her in the real world.
I would like to see Zimmy's parents, at any rate. What exactly is she?

A friend of mine, and a "reader" (read parts, anyway) of Gunnerkrigg suggested that Zimmy might be a vampire, or something along those lines, since she tends to come out at night, or during a cloudy/rainy day (and in today's world of fiction, since when do vampires need to follow Mythological rules?), along with her draining her "friends" of their lives. In all honesty, though, my friends are nutcases. My bet is that Zimmy is "human", with very strange powers (and an eye condition, and very pale skin).

Tom, pan the camera down. I want to see Annie's feet. ...what? why?

Based on Zimmy's slight resemblance to the ghost Martin, I've a theory that Zimmy is a demon who--many years ago--took and reanimated a dead girl's body.

I would find it hard to empathize with Zimmy if she weren't actually a real girl (in some sense).
