Gamma waves are a pattern of brain waves associated with perception ... Heh, figure this. It was pretty obvious that there's something behind their names, but types of brain waves? Damn you Tom for putting the biggest clues so plainly in sight that (almost) no one can see them!

I one saw a report on TV about a guy who couldn't sleep. Nobody believed him at first, but after a few nights in a sleep laboratory they had the evidence. He was unable to sleep. He would just rest and relax, but he was fully conscious the whole time. And he has been like that for years. That proved that sleep is not vitally important for humans since his body was in perfect health. His mind, however, was not. He often seemed confused and would do things like suddenly picking up an imaginary telephone to order a pizza. Later it became clear that his condition was caused by some bacteria that entered his brain long ago (failure of the blood-brain-barrier), messing with his brain chemistry. He was eventually cured and lived happily ever after.
Ever since Zimmy told Annie that she never sleeps I was thinking about this story.

"[Zimmy's] translations are not always the truth.
Zimmy is straight up lying [when translating for Gamma]. She knows the best way to keep a friend is to make them think everyone else hates them."
This seems Word of Tom-worthy to me. I read it as a clear reaction to the comments that the mistranslations probably were partially or completely due to misconceptions on Zimmy's part. It would be in style for Tom to mean this literally, and it's not a leap to imagine that a person like Zimmy would act like that. It's fairly human.
Also, I'm having problems getting into the forum; some script or other seems to freeze my browser. That's what I get for using Win98.

Don't forget that Zimmy isn't human (at least, not entirely human). (I assume she isn't.) So the consequences of sleeplessness for her might be different from those for humans (mentioned in Et Cetera's post above).
