Flame on girls. Now if the story is following the Hollywood Standard path, this is where Court!Annie is killed by the Ashray, who then disappears* right before Parley teleports to them and finds Forest!Annie standing over her body wearing her necklace. *Why? Because reasons, duh.

Does anyone else think that some of the "water" on the ceiling, especially in panels 2 and 4, looks really weird? There seems to be normal water running down the wall in blue, and then some sort of blue slime blending in with it. It seems to move up the wall and change positions between panels 1 and 2, and now is following the girls along the ceiling in panel 4, so that they can't see it. I wonder if it is not really water at all, but some other danger waiting to ambush them. Ah! I KNEW that some of that "water" on the walls looked too goopy!

Nooo! But sounds likely. So I hope this comic remains as unpredictable as ever, and something completely different will happen.

Maybe we're in store for a "with our powers combined" moment? I wonder, if it will be Courtnie's laser precision, combined with Frannie's explosive heat, that will win the day, or they'll both go nova and burn the Ashray away, like two binary stars.
Let's hope this Ashray has just a basic animal intelligence, and has no idea of the Annies' combined capabilities. If it's knowledgeable, it wouldn't have followed them like this without thinking it could win. I like the dynamic between them. I'd hate to see one of them go.

I like how the first line of exposition from Fannie is essentially what the forum was contemplating about the previous page - just in case there are any readers out there who are confused. Also, apparently Talking is NOT a Free Action.Cue the Boss Battle music! Although, I suppose if Tom wants to subvert our expectations, it will hug them and squeeze them and call them George.

So does this mean the Ashray has some level of sentience? It seems savvy enough to realize an Annie-escape-hatch was available and shut it. Was this action intentional, or just an accidental nudge by a blue-goo pseudopod? If it has some intelligence, and is ether sensitive, maybe Annie's ether attractiveness will come into play (as suggested above). Or, ironically, could it be Annie's ether attractiveness is driving Monky's behavior? What if the Scorpodunklemonkfish isn't attacking, but wants to keep the Annies there due to their ether attractiveness? Like Monky is an obsessive fan-fish, or something? edit: (a little like geminijim's idea just above!)

Plot twist: The ashray's name is Margharet, she's Lindsay's cousin and a PhD in psychology appointed by the Court (bargained by Kat and Paz) to deal with the Annie situation. The conversation will take place in turns and they just spent theirs by commenting about their current location. Also, a D20 is involved.

So you also heard the music starting up. I just noticed this whole chapter seems weirdly like a metroidvania kind action platformer. Complete with The Unexpected Start™, The Scripted Event That Opens A New Path™, The Early Encounter With The Boss™, The Escape Sequence™, The Currently Unavailable Path™, The Opening Of The Path With A Power Upgrade™, The (literal) Buildup™ and finally The Boss Fight Room™ Seems you were spot on with your analysis! You have earned your Phazon cookies.

Hopefully Forest!Annie will roll an 18 or above on her persuasion check to make up for it.
