There have been two Antimonies for a few days (comic time) but there's still no certainty about their ultimate fate. Tom has been careful to leave a lot of possibilities on the table. How will it play out? Will both survive (in one form or another) or will one be Pfft'd into oblivion?

How will it play out? Will both survive (in one form or another) or will one be Pfft'd into oblivion? Personally, I'd like it if two Antimonies were a permanent feature of the comic. But I still think Anthony's words right before Antimony went to the woods to negotiate are a death flag. I just didn't know how much trouble "Loup" would have running things* or that duplication of the main character could make her a candidate. [edit]Not sure if she's going to get mauled by "Loup", winked out of existence or just get on a bus and ride off into the sunset but I suspect one of them needs to go with some degree of permanence. [/edit] *Actually I did believe that Ysengrin wouldn't be able to contain Coyote's power forever, I just didn't expect this many problems so soon, which leaves me wondering if part of the reason that "Loup" wants Antimony to live with him in the forest is to act as a counterweight to the strain the power puts on his psyche, like Gamma does for Zeta.

I think they will continue separately to the point that they are accepted as different people by all or almost all of the characters, but then are either tragically rejoined (it’s not something either of them wants but is forced by an entity that things it’s doing them a favor (like Jack once did to Reynard), probably Loup, or in an an unexpected twist, the court). OR one offers themself as a sacrifice (probably Courtnie, since she’s not our viewpoint Annie)

The "one is fake" strikes me as the least probable resolution; I think that it's too late now to take that approach, and would also go against the tone of their interaction.
I'd say that it's become clear by now that the role of the conflict between the two Annies is to reveal a lot about her character, weaknesses, etc. Revealing that one of the two was just an artificial creation of Loup would undermine that. (If anything, I think that Loup's come into existence, from a narrative point of view, as a plot device for producing the two Annies, though I've mentioned this suspicion before.)
Beyond that, I'm unwilling to guess (though I also don't think that we'll see the long-haired version of Annie killed - unless Tom sets up a situation for magically transferring her memories of her conversation with Loup in the forest to the short-haired version of herself, so that all that information is not lost).

What about an option that says "Annies kill each other. Two challengers enter, one leaves." Whether the conflict kills one Annie or gets them joined up in some way, they fight and the result is a merging or killing of one Annie.
...I submit this as my wildspec.
I also keep wondering why they don't try to merge from within the ether, or at least take a look at the situation from there. Remember how the forest bunny didn't recognize Annie when she had cut out the ether part of herself?
After all, Surma couldn't survive having kids because there wasn't enough etheric essence for two persons. So how is there enough now?
Also changeling fetch legends. Although I think it's more powerful that both Annies are real and we get this wild perspective into the character.

I'd argue that any Antimonies-rejoined scenario that doesn't preserve all memories and personality of both is effectively the destruction of one or both of them. And if the resulting being only has one fire where the previous Antimonies had two, that's a diminishment as well.

Eventually, both will die of course, but that will probably be outside the story timeline. I think one of them will die of unnatural causes in the story, way before the other, but it will be a long time from now. Expect two Annies for at least ten chapters.
Another possibility is that both will live on, but be near-permanently separated from each other (e.g., one working exclusively as a psychopomp), or become antagonists (e.g., one in the Court, one in the Forest).

I'd guess that what is happening right now is happening in ether, and stuff how they connect together in social sense is metaphor for how their souls join together back again. I'd wager spiral steps they're taking now leads them to somewhere Loup wants them to be; he especially said he wanted to find them alone and suddenly stuff started to happen they're coming closer and closer. I'm interested to see how Tom will handle ages old cliche of two halves of one soil joining together, I'm inclinet to think it's already happening actually in here already...

Coyote said once while holding the rabbit's soul/totem that even he cannot create it from nothing, so there certainly cannot be two Annie's souls. Loup cannot create that. Maybe a time loop?

I'm thinking more psychedelic approach, as annie1 and annie2 approach understanding they suddenly start to seem like talking to herself and finally notice she is just one person, who remembers both annie's memories, and then loup appears and laughes. and annie will be very angry

I don't think they'll just be rejoined. That just feels too convenient.

Coyote couldn't create a soul from nothing... but that isn't the same as saying he can't create a soul. Renard said that something like a dubbed Antimony is not beyond Coyote's power.

I just wanted to make a general comment about this storyline and I think this is the most appropriate thread for it: I really like the thematic mirroring between Annie and Loup here. Loup's chapter was "Neither", as in the answer to, "Are you Coyote or Ysengrin?" Now Annie has been divided into two, which leads to the same relative open question. Is she Forest-Annie or Court-Annie? In the end, she cannot remain one or the other, since this state is not in balance (at least metaphorically). She either has to be both...or neither.

F!Annie has already peeked at C!Annie in the ether, and C!Annie's ether self looked decidedly odd - fragmentary, ragged www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=2069It's been speculated before, but is this some indication that the split has destabilized the fire elemental portion of the Annies? That they must be rejoined for the elemental to survive... maybe for he Annies to survive? It might take some time for this to happen - Surma lived perhaps 5-6 years after Annie was born. That still gives the comic lots of time to explore the split Annies perspective, but also may put some urgency into them working together to save them both.

Surma died one month before Annie came to Gunnerkrigg Court. That means, she still lived for 11 or 12 years.

On the other hand, Surma was apparently bed-ridden for years, perhaps from the time Annie was 5 or so. Definitely hope that doesnt hold for the Annies! edit: looking at your linked page, Surma was bedridden soon after Annie's birth. So assuming the Annies are split from the original-Annie, and they clearly both host some part of a fire-elemental, they are are already existing differently than after the Annie-Surma fire-elemental split: neither is bed-ridden, or even sick/weak! Maybe is because in the Annie-Surma case, the split was complete (or almost so)... ALL (or nearly all) the elemental went to Annie, and Surma could not survive indefinitely without it. Here, the split is probably more even, and maybe the weakening will be much slower.

There seems an inconsistency in ages here....

I'd totally forgotten that page. That's what I get for not following the forums closely. After reading everyone's posts, I wonder. To me it feels natural that they will eventually rejoin. Their current state doesn't seem sustainable long-term. But I also agree with bedinsis that it can't just happen in some convenient way. Knowing how Tom plots, there will be a price to pay. So maybe one of them will have to die, in order for the other to assimilate the entire flame elemental back into herself. Maybe Annies will have to choose which. The page imaginaryfriend linked is also cool. I wonder if Loup will offer a solution, and how bad that price will be. Maybe going to him will be presented as a desperate solution, so that Annie&gang have to figure out another way. Tom!!! I love your stories!!
