WELL EXCUSE ME MS RED BUT WE COULD HAVE DONE WITHOUT YOUR FRIEND'S MAGICAL INCEPTION TRICK! (*whispers* no we couldn't)
(Also, I'm liking how Annie comes really close to my avatar in terms of facial expression)

Actually, Annie, in a greater sense, this is all your fault. This whole webcomic. We could have been done with the whole comic if it weren't for your actions. You could have left Robot & Shadow on the Court's side, or never built Robot in the first place. You didn't need to run away that summer. You could have minded your own business instead of Jeanne's, Jack's, Reynard's, your dad's etc. etc. and so on. If you would have just concentrated on your studies, you wouldn't even have had to copy from Kat, and you could have been a perfectly normal girl, and all of this stuff would have been over in 7 chapters max. But no. You had to have it your way.

We've already had this conversation with Smitty and Parley.
(Don't try hanging Ayilu's current mental state anywhere else, though.)

Thanks to someone who went back and liked one of my comments from last year, doing a re-read I guess, I am reminded I said this:
"It's heartbreaking how much pride the fairies take in being given names which the humans don't give a toss about. To them, Bugsy is only good for continuing the cycle of willing slavery which is going on here."
Well done Annie, exploiting the fairies desire for names to RISK THEIR LIVES. Good cause or not.
With Smitty's injury you could say well, he made his own decision to participate. He's as responsible as Annie for what happened to him, for the group's total recklessness, and that's true. But the faeries weren't in this for Jeanne or some anti-Court revolution, just names. It's a disgrace.
Maybe looking into the faeries' situation could be Annie's next crusade to help make up for this.

While you're still a lvl 3 Fire Mage, your friend Kat could take over the whole world twice in less than 24 hours with her obedient hyper-intelligent robots! Wake up, Annie! Kat is the real protagonist, you're just the sidekick! But you were lured into a false sense of security because Kat didn't have an extra comic, right? Well, you'll regret it soon enough. I can't help but feel all of this could've been avoided if these kids had better adults. I mean, they're KIDS. This is the kind of stupid shit they're supposed to get up to, but if they had adults who seemed to actually care about what they were getting up to things might be different. If there are things in this story (like the tic tocs, maybe) that are retroactive, she might not have ever had any choice in a lot of the things she's done or participated in.

I'm strangely excited to see Annie potentially losing Red's friendship for a perfectly valid reason. You don't normally see that happen to protagonists.

Annie must now, yet again, pay the traditional faerie restitution:
by taking Ayilu to have her hair stuck up.

Underneath all that "Red" is a rapidly maturing human. There has to be a Japanese term for appearing crazy but actually being fully sane, something that ends in "ere" when translated to English.

I still suspect that the Court may subtly encourage (or at least, avoid discouraging) the children to engage in dangerous risk-taking, rule-breaking and rebellion (as long as it doesn't endanger the Court's policies), since that kind of spirit is going to be necessary for the Court's work when the children grow up to become the next generation and carry on whatever the Court's objectives are. It obviously doesn't want its intended successors to start thinking "These experiments are really dangerous; who knows what horrors we could unleash on the world if we keep tampering with the ether?" or "Why are we living next door to a forest filled with talking animals and mythical creatures who hate us? Why can't we move somewhere safer? Is whatever we're up to here really worth the trouble?"

Being a fairy with alternative logic, Red might do a 180 and claim Annie is a true friend, because of all of it. Though, if Ayilu had to wait on a Court human for naming, Annie really should be called out on that. Is that true though? Red named her. Still unclear on the naming protocol. Very confusing.
On a lighter note: Every time Red calls out to Ayilu, she's saying she loves her. I wonder if Red did that on purpose. Either way, awesome name.

Aside from the whole question of Annie being at fault for Red's trauma...
...Is anyone else here half hoping that Tom will suddenly reveal at some point that Red and Ayilu are actually sisters? Because that seems like exactly the sort of thing that neither of them would ever think was worth mentioning out loud to any of their increasingly confused friends.

It obviously doesn't want its intended successors to start thinking "These experiments are really dangerous; who knows what horrors we could unleash on the world if we keep tampering with the ether?" In short, there are obvious differences between raising cattle and raising mad scientists. Is anyone else here half hoping that Tom will suddenly reveal at some point that Red and Ayilu are actually sisters? Because that seems like exactly the sort of thing that neither of them would ever think was worth mentioning out loud to any of their increasingly confused friends. Well, there's probably going to be some twist, too. It's Gunnerkrigg, after all. On the other eyestalk, "siblings" may be too much of soap opera style bait and switch. On the third eyestalk, even "sisters" may be too organic-thinking assumption. Either way, the rest of ex-fairies and ex-beasties in their class (who we can assume could know better) see their antics all the time and consider this a sign of "good friends". Which gives hope that the twist will be truly non-Euclidean. On the fourth eyestalk, an un-twist is possible, too - it would be like Tom to just shrug and walk by, leaving a line of shippers holding the bag and trying to figure out what just happened.

But no. You had to have it your way. To be fair, if Annie hadn't interfered... - Kat never would have had any friends.
- Zimmy never would have had any human interaction.
- Jack would not have escaped from the White Spider's mental domination.
- Renard would never have left prison or begun to redeem himself.
- Shadow never would have learned to speak.
- Robot would not exist at all.
- Ysengrin wouldn't have begun to tame his rage.
- Jeanne would never have reached peace (despite the possible consequences)
- Mort would never have "moved on".
- The readers would never have met Coyote.
Etc. Annie's involvement as protagonist hasn't been uniformly positive – she DID put Red and Blue Ayilu in danger – but she's also caused many good things to happen. She's just a bit too impulsive sometimes...

Jack would not have escaped from the White Spider's mental domination. Though sometimes I wonder if he wold have been infected had Annie not been there.... Robot would not exist at all. Robot would still exist, he would not be free and active but in a state that is closer to stasis.
