AAAAAAAAAHH Kat to the rescue...And Kat has taken another step into her rightful role as the Angel. She's able to understand and replicate Diego's greatest work? She's better than we've given her credit for*. *Admittedly this was hinted at before but now we have confirmation.

Initiate wobbly panels mode Good catch, I missed that. Also, Kat, really, you're keeping that in your pocket? Jeez, you don't know what kind of radiation that gives off. You should be wearing lead shielding at least. Basic radiation experimental procedures, jeez!

That thingy looks a little intimidating. And she kept it in her pocket.

A young Jedi must be able to make their own light sabre, mustn't they?

Well, going by color coordination logic, this is an object meant to tie an ethereal consciousness to the object it's connected with. So Annie's gonna get anchored back in her own mind. Really useful, if you ask me.

Well, this couldn't possibly go wrong. Maxim 14: "Mad Science" means never stopping to ask "what's the worst thing that could happen?" The most obvious possible problem is that tug-o-Annie will cause her to "separate" again. Of course, it's Gunnerkrigg Court, so probably "the most obvious" is not what's going to happen. So… activating two devices of this sort too close, and on the same subject at that, is going to initiate some entirely unintended interaction? And… either one or both will go boom (unlikely), or plunge everyone involved into a hybrid mechanical version of Zimmy's distortion?

Oh yes, an actual comment. I'm still wondering if the court is going to intervene at some point.

There is still no confirmation that glowy green wands cause brain cancer. And with people using them all the time, you'd think they would have found something already...
Anyway, what I think this will cause, would be to give Annie a beacon of some sorts. Maybe a way to communicate. But she'll still have to apply more elbow grease to the problem at hand.

YES IT IS.

It is missing the arrow-like features of the original; the fletching, and the weird double-pronged tip. Question is, how else is it different? Presumably it will free rather than trap the soul/etheric part, but I guess we see Monday....

True, but it would be a poignant resolution - Jeanne and Green freed at last, but at the cost of Annie and her fire being (permanently?) separated. Kat would achieve what Anthony struggled so mightily towards (failing spectacularly)....

Will it bring Annie out or will it bring Kate in? good question. It is probably meant to do the former, but an unintended consequence may be the latter.... or that could be the plan(?) - Kat goes in with some special knowledge of how to "turn it off"?

Maybe Annie could use that aura to reverse the "trapping" of Green, free him and they could work together out of that maze in time to stop the fight and save Parley from certain death and everyone could live happily ever after, except Jeanne and Green who could be dead happily ever after.
I'm just a romantic.

I don't recall a rule from the Evil Overlord List that would directly negate that, but there probably is one. At first, I thought it would be a mere communication device, but the frame wobble and build up is ominous. Could Kat be about to enter the Ether? Will we see her divinely, or will it be more like the ROTD? Kat: "Guys! Why don't you just use this door?" *opens door marked 'Exit'* Annie: "Wha?" Green Man: "She is blowing my mind!!"

I wonder if it'll send Kat into there, similar to how Parley ended up with Annie when she put her hand on her shoulder in that one chapter.
The bits inside the arrow move, and Annie doesn't understand their purpose, but I bet Kat would have a much easier time figuring it out.

We don't know how much the arrow features of the original were just because it had to be fired as an arrow. Kat isn't an archer so she just needs to poke Annie with it perhaps so doesn't need the fancy additional accoutrements that the arrow did.

I am of the untrained opinion that either (a) this is the first part of a Kat plan to retreat or (b) it will pull Kat in. Because those would be cool and interesting results.
If (a) though it may pull Annie out, or it may pull out greendude with her... in which case initiate Plan Uh-Oh.

If green-dude is pulled out with Annie, Jeanne will see him and maybe realize that this isn't just some moderately well-planned invasion of the Annan waters; they were springing her boyfriend from Diego's green prison. They are there to help (not just provide her with some rapier practice....)! Welcome to the discussion, btw!

I can just imagine Annie getting yanked out, and as she is, Green Dude grabs on and hitches a ride. And then Annie walks them both into the ether. And then we go back and realize Blue actually was badly damaged by the sword to her ether-face. And maybe Parley got an hand lopped off in the meanwhile because there was no Smitty protection from Jeanne's sword. Because consequences.
