Moved to action by the collection of sad moments on (the appropriately named) sadkrigg's thread, I felt we needed a thread for the opposite: somewhere to recollect the happiest moments in the story, to contrast with the dark-and-gloomy nature of the current chapters. So! With no further ado... What parts of Gunnerkrigg do you think are the saddest happiest?

Indeed, heartbreaking. (And shameless self-quote.)

From here until the end of the chapter, everything that happens is blissful. Kat's first line echoes Antimony's more playful declaration when she jumped off the cherry tree -- which resonates with Tony's sense of humour as I'm getting to know it from the recent pages. They both love such exaggerated roles for the same qualities that always intrigue them. At the more intimate levels of self-development, where masks cannot be chosen at a moment's notice and strangers do not reach, the imagined situation becomes as "real" as any other memory. Expressed rather more succinctly, their jokes are freak blossoms on perennial plants. (Marginal note: may substitute "succulently".) There are further similarities; compare Tony's fate-accepting smile when he revealed his prosthesis, and thereby the loss of his life-shaping ability, to Annie musing about how strangely oversized she feels around her new classmates. Kat may not understand the happiness of being fascinated with one's perception, because it escapes the rather bleak situation that she saw her friend in (or because she saw the Realm of the Dead as she did, or because Kat tends to emphasize the objective purpose in perception, I assume) -- but the reader can.

Reynard, when Annie suggests that he scare away the Corridor Jerks (I know they were on a train platform, not in a corridor, but that's what the forum ended up calling them).

Here is another... Paz, when she thought she saw cows in Young's Park. In Traveller, Paz has the same expression of unabashed joy when she meets the puppies. Real puppies, not laser puppies.

The whole Love Letter Arc. Never fails to make me smile.
Also Ysengrin and Annie after she scares all the creepy forest monster things by lighting herself on fire.

I find it funny that you, with the username "Sadkrigg" and the creator of our "saddest face" page, have posted in the happiest page thread as well Very much agreed on both counts, btw.

Renard's "you smell wonderful!" when Annie returns from the Forest. "Your hair! it goes up!" James asleep in Jones's lap in the warm glow of the lamp in her quiet library. "I will never send you into danger". Renard at the helm of the rescue fleet.

Renard's "you smell wonderful!" when Annie returns from the Forest. ... Renard at the helm of the rescue fleet. Anything showing Annie and Renard's developing relationship (I don't mean a romantic relationship*) is sweet. Including fanfiction of course.*(I admit that I would be totally fine shipping Annie/Renard in a romantic relationship, ten in-comic-years after the present day, even though nothing at all has hinted at it as of yet.)

Chapter 11, page 196 when it finally rains; Zimmy's eyes clear and she smiles. The next page is also good as Zimmy blissfully sits in the rain.
