What's the etiquette for carrying someone's soul/totem? Do you just stick it in your pocket? Ysengrin probably just threw the totems across the bridge, so anything Annie does is going to be an improvement.

Your mortality is delicious to Coyote!
But in all seriousness, I also doubt he's going to eat it. He would've done it in front of Annie for the shock value most likely.

I'm betting we'll see something surprising like coyote regretting the loss of another creature to the court of handing it off to ysengrin.

And then, pick his teeth with the horns. Green is supposed to see Jackalope again, but not in her original form. Perhaps, Coyote is sweet enough to bring it to her for a type of farewell.

Maybe Coyote will make some piece of artwork from the body and send it to its former "owner" ?... Like it was some sort of talisman ? (Ok, far more creepy than just eat the body...) A gift from Coyote to the new student: A lucky Rabbit's foot! What, wait, why are you crying? (and why is Coyote howling with laughter...) Honestly, I think it is clear Coyote has dinner plans now. Sometimes the simplest answer is the correct answer.

I'm betting we'll see something surprising like Coyote regretting the loss of another creature to the Court Ah, little one, you are lost to us.
Why do you no longer care to run between the strong stones that are my bones, or listen for the wind among the leaves that is my laughter? As a human, won't you miss the smell of the dew in the mornings and the sound of the water flowing through the streams, replaced by the scent of oil and grease as the machine of that damn Court grinds on? Perhaps someday you'll see the prison of rules and steel in which you live. Perhaps someday you'll decide to return to our beautiful Forest, to run free between the earth and sky once more.
I'll keep your body waiting for you, little one.

I'll keep your body waiting for you, little one.That's... actually rather beautiful. And much nicer than a possibly grim outcome.

The only grim outcome I see here is that I don't get fried jackalope for lunch tomorrow.

I think we're all overlooking something important: The title of this chapter.
With this in mind, it would make sense that Coyote is stacking all these bodies into the world's largest totem pole.

gosh golly Coyote is collecting bodies for use with his possessed zombie-demon army that he's gonna use to invade the court!
Either that or maybe these are the bodies that people who want to become animals get. Could go either way, really.
