We're nearing the Friday picture. If Annie turns around and she's crying, we'll have to mull over it for a whole weekend. I hope that doesn't happen! Look at her legs - she's not crying. Otherwise she wouldn't be swinging them. Also her arm is rigid. Do you even body language? Everything about her posture suggests excitement to me. Funny the things that make a person stop lurking. :-) I assumed that the bed was on the fairly compact side & that her feet were on the floor. In that case, her posture indicated to me the possibility of crying or biting one's lip in an attempt not to (among other options). My own posture is pretty stiff when fighting tears.

Given how Annie may feel about Jack I wonder if she'll react to Kat and Paz being together? Seeing couples everywhere and realizing she has no one? It's possible. All aboard the ship ship.

Then again, maybe they run into a straight-up tear in the sea. I wonder, what could make an Etheric tear in the ocean? I've said it before and I'll say it again, Moses, preferably Modalf (Moses/Gandalf).

I think I made almost this exact comment a few pages ago, but I'm too lazy to confirm haha - and welcome to the forum! You said this on the first page. *facepalm* Did you mean a previous thread?

Bottom left panel – is there an ashtray on the locker? With two cigarettes in it? Is Annie (secretly) smoking, or didn't they clean the cabin before the cruise? I don't think so, it looks too large to be just an ashtray, plus you make an awful stink so someone, most likely Renard with his magical nose, would have confronted her about it. I do wonder how Annie is feeling about this considering she didn't get to go on vacations with Kat the past two summers, and I doubt she has been on a boat this big before or even if she has spent time on any sort of boat before. Also, finally Kat and Paz!!!

Then again, my inability to work out what the other grey/silver things are (bins?) means that I am probably wrong. Annie needs to get outside - there's no way that that clear sky and millpond combination is going to last.

Some people on /co/ have pointed out that Kat's hair has been getting longer, anyone think she's growing it out again?

It would be nice to see Annie hang out with Paz for a while. Maybe she'll make a new friend. Whatever happened to that girl Annie was talking to?

They get single cabins on a school cruise? Gunnerkrigg Court is really something else... Also, that dress makes Paz look much younger than she's been in her previous appearances. I wonder who's got cabin 113?

Paz looks so childish with that dress? is it a dress, I dunno. I noticed the same thing, that dress makes her look much younger than her earlier outfits. I think it's because of how high the skirt-part of the dress goes.

I suppose I'll throw out my two cents, though they strike me as rather grim. I've mostly been ruminating on the rather ominous chapter title we've been given, and bar some new context, am feeling more and more as if what is "torn" is likely to be of emotional significance rather than physical. Though it could easily be both. Given this, I've been putting more and more thought into Annie's emotional state lately and I'm becoming more and more convinced she isn't exactly alright. I feel I need to expound somewhat. This could be just me, and if it is then I have no doubt it's throwing my entire perspective way off, but I've been haunted by a steady feeling of dissonance ever since the end of Chapter 47. While it is true that life goes on it feels so recent that the last chapter and this current one, through their color and content, feel almost... "loud" if I had to put a word on it, like a forced smile almost. While it is true we saw Annie express her feeling of loss at the end of the chapter I got no feeling of real closure, of a sense of working through it, only the initial blow.
What I mean by drawing attention to that event in particular isn't necessarily that it has not had enough of an impact, but that I don't think we've seen Annie fully confront much of what she's been through. As I've gone back and re-read the comic it's become more noticeable to me that several of the people Annie knows have several times practically seen her as a reincarnation of her mother, and I think Annie knows or suspects this. On top of this is her separation from her father and other events. While I do think we (and others) have seen her really start to come into her own lately I again have that feeling of things left slightly unresolved. All of this has led me to the conclusion that I feel Annie, despite how close she is with Kat, Renard, Ysengrin, Jones, and others is on some level or levels a... lonely(?) person. To what severity I cannot say, and I feel that this is perhaps the wrong word, but I feel something is definitely there. One of them certainly being that like most of Annie desires a relationship on a level like that she sees around her. As of yet however she either has yet to find that person, found a possible interest only to have that person endanger both her and Renard and now still feels a smoldering anger, or is seeing that person with someone else while still finding herself interested in them.
Finally, when it's all said and done and I take all of this into account I feel confrontation with all of this is inevitable, I only hope it won't be painful, a hope which the current title does not encourage.
Or I could be completely wrong, the title refers to an actual "physical" etheral event that we are going to see that will spur conflict and development in an area I'm not expecting because my perspective is jaded still from the events of chapter 47 which has also clouded my interpretation of the rest of the comic. Sufficient time could have easily passed in-comic for the characters to find closure and we are now headed into a series of events that shall finally lead us to our long-awaited meeting with the guardian of the Anaan Waters.
Either way I look forward to this excellent story continuing.

have that feeling of things left slightly unresolved. ... Everything in this comic is unresolved. It's practically the nature of the comic. XD This actually seems like one of the more believable predictions floating around. I'm just about torn 50/50 between saying yes, she will blow up or break down in some way in this chapter, or no she won't. If her collapse follows the same pattern as in Fire Spike, then the conversation with Jack could easily be analogous to the talk about Surma with Anja and Kat in the first few pages of chapter 31. I could certainly see that. However, Annie's cheerful expression in the last and current chapter, while probably not entirely honest, does not seem to be a polar opposite to how she actually feels. It may be that she is not yet over Mort's death, but it does not seem to me that she is entirely unstable. In Fire Spike, you could see her frown when she was alone - Here, she seems cheerful, for the most part. In addition, this comic suggests that she might be nervous, but really excited about being the Forest medium. So, IMO Annie reacting strongly to... something (probably it would be something about Janny or Kaz) is possible, but unlikely in this chapter. Of course, we'll see how she acts around Paz...

To better clarify, I do agree that some kind of strong reaction in this chapter is unlikely though possible. I feel perhaps we're more likely to get a clarification of just how Annie feels rather than a resolution or outright conflict. I guess what I was trying to say was there seem to be several things building and I think eventually they will have to come to the fore, when that is I can only speculate. The title gives hints to a possibility, though no more than a possible clarification of feeling as opposed to confrontation. Or again, could be completely wrong.

It's funny to see how much less discussion this page has gotten than the previous ones Well, there isn't much to discuss this page, especially compared to the last two. This one is more of a transition page between scenes, with the only real thing to talk much about being Annie's reaction to Jack (which has been happening for a couple pages now) & little things like Paz's outfit, the massiveness of that cruise ship, and the adorableness of Kat's big smile, all of which don't merit much discussion.

And then Horned Rabbit Lady will appear, already turned into a smart, sensible, affectionate male boy, and will thank Annie for bringing him/her to Gunnerkrig Court.... What?! Why not? THEY ARE ON A SHIP, ANYWAYS!!! Thanks to mordekai I am now shipping Annie with Jackalope Boy who we have not met yet and can't even be sure he has transitioned to the Court yet.
