I personally was one of those who thought it was Zimmy. I wasn't prepared to fight to the death over it, but my first thought at seeing her was "Zimmy?!" So, that's why I was one of the people who clicked yes in the last thread. I halfway expected to be wrong about it. I think Kat's comment signifies that at least some of us were supposed to think she was Zimmy. I do think there's a bigger story. I look forward to finding out what.

How could you do this to me Tom?!?!?! Out of nowhere we've got this slatternly harlot breaking up Zimmy and Jack, who where my OTP! Gunnerkrigg Court is ruined forever! Edit: Does anyone else think that Jenny goes from looking doe-eyed and cute in panels 2 and 3 to looking like Marilyn Manson in panel 5? Also, did anyone else notice Jenny's face in the fifth panel? There's definitely something suspicious here, I'd say, though I don't know what just yet. Reverse quote! Apparently, I'm not the only one who noticed it.

I'd like to bring up the amalgam theory from Friday's thread again. If one takes the numeric positions of both Gamma(3) and Zeta(6) and adds them up one gets Iota(9). If we can give Zeta the nickname Zimmy, Jenny for Iota might be not that much of a stretch.
I'm not saying that's proof, or that the theory is any less far fetched than it was Friday. Jenny is most likely a completely unrelated character to the other two.

Probably nothing more complex than glaring at a girl who seems like potential competition. Looks like this is going to be the "teens being teens"-chapter of the fifth volume; we haven't had one in awhile.

Jack - 'This is my girlfriend Jenny. I think you already know her phone number, so we can plan out that Karaoke.' Oh screw you! What, are you saying you didn't want that song stuck in your head all day? Edit: Does anyone else think that Jenny goes from looking doe-eyed and cute in panels 2 and 3 to looking like Marilyn Manson in panel 5? What, are you saying Marylin Manson isn't doe-eyed and cute?

It had to happen. ... but oooooh, boy who is that Jack is with right now? (Dream Zimmy? Mytery Zimmy look alike? An android he built to look like Zimmy? Inquiring minds!) ... Inquiring minds still want to know more about this "Jenny" character. Apart from her phone number. That seems obvious.

From a distance maybe you could think its Zimmy from the hair and skin. Annie's been inside her mind so of course she wouldn't make that mistake. Having that page appear on Friday made everyone get overexcited and inspire all those theories. Jenny is supposed to look similar to Zimmy but, I don't see why anyone would believe a "fixed" Zimmy would be separated, even for a minute, from Gamma.
This is why Jack is one of my least favorite characters, Jenny doesn't know she's being used(I assume).

Since Kat doesn't have the benefit of meta considerations or side-by-side comparisons, it's not too strange a thing for her to say. Though I don't doubt that Tom had anticipated the speculation.
I disagree that it takes masterfulness to get people talking on the internet.

I was first gonna say that I think Tom only made Kat say that because of all the people thinking Jenny was Zimmy, but then I remembered Tom makes these pages long in advance, so... did he expected people to react the way they did? huh
... ofcourse he could have also made a different page previously and changed it this weekend, but that seems like to much work just as a joke.

I still think its Zimmy :/ That's the spirit! Never let the facts stand in the way of a good story! This still, of course, leaves the mystery of how Jack suddenly aged ten times faster than everybody else. Zimmingham can do that to the unprepared visitor maybe? Your mention of Zimmingham just gave me a horrible idea. What if...Jenny...is from Zimmingham? (Read this page and the two following it.) Perhaps she's a nobody that managed to escape or was brought out, or is one of those real people without a face that Zimmy talked about, or something else? Who knows, maybe given her complexion she's a whitelegs that's somehow now in girl form? NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE! Obviously there's something wrong with her, and it'll be interesting to see what happens when Jack and Jenny run into Zimmy and Gamma.

The moment I saw the previous page, I knew people would react the way they did. I disagree that it takes masterfulness to get people talking on the internet. Yep. There is no mystery in what Tom did here. If you can understand how he did it, as I believe most people here can, then you can do the same.

Not sure what's up with that, but I hope it gets better soon. Anyways, the idea I threw out there was just sharing for enjoyment, not a theory I particularly hold dear or necessarily even agree with. But for sake of discussion, who knows what Nobodies would look like outside of Zimmingham? Annie's etheric cut is not visible in the "real" world; it could be all the black crap on a nobody's face would not be visible here. As for a name, we know that at least sometimes they are significant, so you're right: "Jenny" is not nobody. But if she had been one at one time and became something more simply by having been granted a name, that would be something, wouldn't it? The whole idea is silly and a long shot, I grant you. But if it gets people thinking about the dynamics of the Gunnerverse and the story we've seen so far, then I think that's fun and a good thing. Shutting down ideas without discussion, not so much. (Since you probably can't tell my tone either, I'm not upset, just trying to encourage discussion. Please understand I hold you in the highest respect. )

Toldyouso: nose and chin are very different. Jenny appears quite hostile. Not hostile, but possessive and slightly weirded out, sure. And it's not like she doesn't have a reason. Just imagine yourself on her place in a scene exactly like this, meeting completely unknown people. What's with all those expressions, in-jokes and side-glances... there's clearly something between Jack and these girls, and she have no idea what. Also, she's shorter than Annie. Annie didn't get a growth spurt as impressive as Jack's, but she had a summer worth of healthy food and climbing trees, after which she was pretty much running on the walls for a while. I doubt the same can be said about Jenny. But, I repeat that my evaluation of Jack's gone down significantly after this. Why? So.. Kat's face. Someone's creeped out, it seems. And somewhat tactless. who am I kidding, I'd probably do the same thing >.> Exactly. It should be even more terrible with sounds.

Jenny appears quite hostile. Although I suppose that doesn't mean she's Corridor jerk... Also, she's shorter than Annie. I'm going to guess that it's because she likely knows (like everyone does) that there used to be something between Annie and Jack and is...resentful? You know how it is when a new girlfriend meets and ex right? Of course we all know Annie isn't an ex, but Jenny probably does not. Also, did anyone else notice Jenny's face in the fifth panel? There's definitely something suspicious here, I'd say, though I don't know what just yet. Probably nothing more complex than glaring at a girl who seems like potential competition. Looks like this is going to be the "teens being teens"-chapter of the fifth volume; we haven't had one in awhile. Or that. Or a mixture of the two! Also rubs it in with those people who thought it was Zimmy haha no offense, gentle forum-goers; I'm just relieved Zimmy didn't end up with Jack like that Have to agree, sort of. I had nothing against any other part of it, but was so uncomfortable with the thought that Zimmy would have turned into a lame linking park goth babe. [just realized I'm potentially insulting a whole bunch of goth girls who listen to linking park, and I'm sorry, that's not intended] Saying "no insult intended" when you're saying something you know is insulting is kinda pointless. At the end of the day you're still being a jerk because someone listens to band you don't like. A band called Linkin Park by the way. Linking Park sounds like a internet themed parody.

Who would ever think Jenny even remotely looks like Zimmy? Tom played us all and it was glorious. But, I repeat that my evaluation of Jack's gone down significantly after this. Why? Should he become a creepy stalker and follow Zimmy around? Stay single all his life? Jump from a tower? Date a girl that is Zimmy's opposite in order to prove that he's over her? So long as he is a decent boyfriend for Jenny, I don't see anything wrong with Jack dating a girl that looks like Zimmy.

Not that; I mean, he's made it clear that it's Zimmy specifically that he's attracted to (because the spiders were), not Goths in general (of course, this may have changed in the last year of the comic). In my opinion, at least, liking Goth girls in general is distinct from dating them just because they remind you of a single person you're fixated on. The former is great, but the latter is (to me) tasteless. Whatever. Not a big enough deal for me to argue over.

Well I didn't, I sure don't understand how people could mistake her for Zimmy, and was quite surprised at people's comments Well, I didn't think she was Zimmy, of course. But it was obvious to me (and some other people here in the forum) that Tom pretty much crafted the previous page to make some people think it was Zimmy. She does look a bit like Zimmy and, well, she's with Jack. There's also Tom's comment on the previous page: “these guys??”. He wouldn't have written this if he hadn't predicted how people would react. Actually, some people probably reacted that way because of his comment. Predicting people's reactions is pretty much the main job of a writer.

Predicting people's reactions is pretty much the main job of a writer. Pretty much the job of the writer, then using those reactions to make sure the story they read is the story you wrote. (or not) Personally, my estimation of Jack is falling as well. I mean, I know that he liked Zimmy, a weird but perfectly understandable, erm... attraction? but this is an obsession, I'd say. If Zimmy is as important as I've thought, then his influence is a major wildcard upsetting the most wild wildcard we've got. I personally don't think there's anything weird persay with Jenny - she's a normal person being used, but GC never fails to surprise me.

Having Kat say that she thought it was Zimmy on this page means to me that Jack purposely chose to date someone that looks as close to Zimmy. That this is what we would most likely pay attention to. For them to meet with these guys first might lead to a scene where Annie can ask him what he's planning. As well as lead to a runway show of all the other couples.

As in other posts today. Should remember to use those emoticons... Edit: I found your idea funny and you don't have to grant me anything as I made no claims whatsoever. I made a cheapish pun that basically agreed with your idea: it would suit Jenny well to be from Zimmingham, because she's such a nobody in that more usual sense: the noun here. Obviously, we don't know much anything at all about what she is and isn't, but so far she has managed to establish herself in my very biased reader's point of view as Jack's Zimmy-substitute and a boxbot impersonator. This is going to be a drama cruise! I'm so excited for this chapter! I anticipate being even more excited if Zimmy actually appears there too. I was really excited about her return.
