I'm looking for this - your personal view of a map of the court and surroundings - I've been fantasizing about it for ages while supporting the Minecraft project, and furthermore I suppose we need it if we want to do any good at the project itself. Right now we have the bits and pieces of the architectural landmarks, but no idea where to put them.
Strangely, the Art Thread is sorely lacking in this.
So, if anybody likes, try your hand at it! No matter what style... from RPG map to ancient lithography, 's all wonderful.

Actually, i was talking about the cube-y but glorious 3d renditions of some buildings that appeared in the comic. But thaaaat's pretty damn awesome too. Unfortunately, it's too small to qualify as much more than "bits and pieces" - not because it's not a working thing per se... it works stand alone, i just always thought of the whole complex as more sprawling, and less, so to speak, well packed. More disorganized, so to speak? Hmm. Uhn, if it can be of inspiration:

I'll try to take a shot at it in the next few days. It's probably gonna take a while though.

c'mon, I know the comic far from perfectly. I really hope I'm not the only one working on a rendition, because I can say now that mine will have some big flaws.

Are we doing this 100% canon? If so, there's gonna be some big gaps.

Holy schmoly, I didn't see all this happen while i was asleep. Good find! Even if it helps relatively...little. And no, i don't think we should make it completely canon. That would be mostly impossible. We can see from here that the roads are very narrow compared to the buildings. Interesting. Packed. Very Bismuth-y.

Alright, some reference comics (obviously there are many other useful ones) These are mostly minor locations that I would like to be included as well. gunnerkrigg.com/?p=256 Aly's tower gunnerkrigg.com/?p=307 2nd dorms gunnerkrigg.com/?p=358 quad for students in 2nd dorms gunnerkrigg.com/?p=368 various practice rooms (the Court seems to have no shortage of large halls or gymnasiums that can be borrowed for pretty much anything) gunnerkrigg.com/?p=398 there's a canal system in the court apparently. I think that the canals feed the lake which drains into the Annan. gunnerkrigg.com/?p=448 skyscraper & dock near the lake. gunnerkrigg.com/?p=500 big telescope available for student use, apparently. gunnerkrigg.com/?p=596 not that you would, but don't forget Young's Park! gunnerkrigg.com/?p=633 big skyscrapers. gunnerkrigg.com/?p=635 good reference for West Canal warehouses. gunnerkrigg.com/?p=707 multiple conduction points for the etheric energy transfer array. If we assume that on the map on the wall, 'up' is 'north' and the lake, as the source of the ether, is at one end, then I think it's safe to assume that the lake is fairly southward in the Court, given that the longest transmission distance would probably be over the lake itself. gunnerkrigg.com/?p=762 there's some grass between the Court and the Annan, at least near the front entrance. gunnerkrigg.com/?p=845 underwater dorms are a must. gunnerkrigg.com/?p=1138 Long Acre is a street near London, so the robot's secret warehouse may be outside the court. The images we have of the outside of Warehouse 113 aren't particularly helpful either way, but I think it's fairly safe to assume that it is inside the court - no doubt Annie and Kat would have trouble sneaking out of the court entirely. gunnerkrigg.com/?p=1196 gotta remember Paz's place. gunnerkrigg.com/?p=1203 is the Court near the ocean? If so, is the river we see here the Annan (or its gentler, milder offspring)? gunnerkrigg.com/?p=1208 Egger's home. Probably outside the court, given that it's near the graveyard and Adam's school. This raises some questions about the true size of the school. It also could be that the Court borders on another city. gunnerkrigg.com/?p=1213 The graveyard. Probably outside the court. gunnerkrigg.com/?p=1222 Adam's school. Probably outside the court. gunnerkrigg.com/?p=1241 can't forget the ruins. gunnerkrigg.com/?p=1303 we could put the ROTD archives in a separate age using the Mystcraft mod.

This story takes place within the Court- Warehouse 113, the graveyard, and Egger's house are all within the Court.
The exact position of the Court on the British Isles is not known, except that it is surrounded by forest and difficult to reach without being invited. Getting out would be similarly difficult, as it is implied that the bridge is the only crossing point.
With the ether grid, I always assumed that it stretched east, deeper into the Court, where it was used to perform experiments.

I haven't been working on the map lately, but still hope to get around to it sometime after the homework dies down. It's not dead yet!

I doubt that the only access to Gunnerkrigg Court from Britain is by way of the bridge between the Court and Gillitie Wood, considering that (a) we know that people frequently go between the Court and Britain, and (b) crossing the bridge is barred to most beings except under special circumstances. Personally, I think the Court and Wood are very close to Avalon.

I'm sure they have a couple helipads lying around somewhere. Or maybe they have a train route out.
Avalon was on an island, so that could also be a possibility, but it would a very noticeable and not-very-secret island.
I always imagine it like the World Cup from HP- ordinary, unauthorized people just get kind of fuzzy and remember a pressing appointment somewhere else before they take more than five steps into the woods.

Avalon was on an island, so that could also be a possibility, but it would a very noticeable and not-very-secret island. The obvious problem with this statement - the fact that we don't know where Avalon is (while the logic that says Glastonbury *could have been* Avalon is sound, the specific evidence for the claim that it *was* is discredited) - is actually why I said that Gunnerkrigg is close to Avalon. Avalon logically should have been close to the site of the Battle of Camlann, which is where Arthur received his mortal wounds. In pre-medieval times, when your king is badly injured you take him to the nearest friendly manor. Unfortunately the location of that battle is also undetermined, with possible sites in western Cornwall, near Glastonbury, in northwest Wales, and in central-eastern Scotland. In some of the mythology, Avalon retreated into the mists of Faerie and may not be accessible at all from the mortal realm any more. I'm placing the Court a little ways into those mists, just far enough that if you aren't on the right road with the right destination in mind you can go through the space it occupies without encountering it. And you have to go through the Court to get to the Forest.
