Gunnerkrigg is awesome for its art. What do you think the most dropdead beautiful page is? non-spoilery would be good, because I'd like to show it off to somebodies.
gunnerkrigg.com/?p=650 The perspective of that robot being tossed around is really good. The entire robot flashback is good, though spoilery as hell.
gunnerkrigg.com/?p=387 One of the things is like about this comic is that even the dialogue-heavy scenes are not visually boring. The illustrations on this page are pretty AND aid the understanding of what is being said. Nice.
gunnerkrigg.com/?p=388 I still can't wrap my head around how Tom can make all the hugely different tones of this comic work.
From a purely aesthetic basis, this is my favorite. The colors are muted, which gives it much more of a painting feel compared to most of the comics with bright, clear shapes. Usually, Annie's hair is one solid mass, or two or three parts, but here there are lots of separate locks of hair, which contribute to a much more realistic feel (she looks so pretty). I like the body language with the implied movement, her upper body leaning forward with her hands seemingly about to push the plants out of her way. Just wonderful.
Because I'm prone to panic attacks and all this chapter describes it well (for me) in a beautiful way, and the softies spot where lies Gamma is the sweetest and cutest thing ever, with all those colors in a gray and tern world.
All the Stone chapter.
And many other pages, some of them already cited here.
Dang. This thread is going to get to do an archive binge some time in the next forty-eight hours. Kudos to Zimmyhoo for starting a thoughtful thread that is (so far) actually staying on topic.
