Title wrong? "You will one day leave me" instead of "You will leave me one day"? same meaning, but words in wrong order? But in comic news, this is sort of exactly what was predicted on Friday Sad times, everyone she's been close to has left her already, it's all she knows

I was figuring it would be something to do with fear of abandonment, but it wasn't really until I read Annie's comment in the last line that I really connected it to losing her parents. Note the phrasing, "you will one day leave me." She really does seem to take it as given that people she loves will leave her.
ETA: Regarding Tony, she becomes quite angry when people insult him, and his disappearance has very definitely hurt her (see: the last time they visited this room).

...and still so deliciously ambiguous.
Did Annie know? (I think so)
Is Annie jealous? (not so much jealous, but reality has just bitten her)

I don't feel up to tracking down the exact post but I'm pretty sure I called this one a few pages ago. Annie's saddened by the reality of Kat growing up. Bam.

Actually this is a good sign. That she is able to express these feelings to Kat shows that she is not going to do things the Anthony way. Not out of the woods yet but still.

I love the differences in their body language!! And Kat looks so pretty in panel 7, aaah
Interesting to note that yes, she is afraid of losing her friend, but it's really more of a finality: You will one day leave me. The idea of friendships lasting forever is nice, but it doesn't happen very often. She will not always be the most important person in Kat's life. It's interesting how she says "leave me" instead of something like "move on"

If you think an emotionally distant person who showed little affection and whose name was Anthony is an important person, then sure, be that way. Your father is an important person no matter how emotionally distant he is or what his name is. This is especially true when he willingly chooses not to interact with you - that, arguably, makes him the most important person in your life because you'll spend an inordinate amount of time wondering why you weren't worth his while to speak to and coming up with reasons to explain his absence. It can become a rather toxic preoccupation, leading to a lot of repressed insecurities. Regardless, I still maintain that Tony is secretly awesome. You'll all see. He'll be the coolest.

And I never said he was a good father, abandoning her in the court for 2 years, but he's still her father. Everyone's father is important to them, even if they are terrible fathers and you end up never speaking to them, they are still important, and have shaped part of who you are.

This is not necessarily true. Important, yes, but you are not obligated to love your family, especially if they are awful to you. Annie, however, definitely does.

Random pointless note #2586: the decon habitat symbol is a lighter color than in last page. [ 813] seems pretty cold to me. :/ [edit goes here] That's AFTER she got sick. Yeah, note the missed edit.

I had a feeling this was why Annie ran. And yes, this page broke my heart. It is not pleasant having ones heart get broken at 10:28 in the morning.

This is not necessarily true. Important, yes, but you are not obligated to love your family, especially if they are awful to you. Annie, however, definitely does. Children are absolutely obligated to love their parents. That's a hardwired fact of biology. Eventually, yes, you might realise they're awful people, but that's not something you'll be likely to come to terms with until you've gone through a whole circus act of rationalising for them first. I'm not just speaking from my own experience here but those of many people I've known who also came from broken families. Kids come up with some crazy mental hoops to keep their parents in the hero role. Children love. That's what they do. Learning to let go of that love when you learn it isn't warranted is a cruel part of growing up. One that, I think, Annie has been facing ever since Fire Spike. Her character arc has been a process of coming to terms with her own parents' flawed humanity.

I'm hoping that Kat's expression in the last panel means she wasn't expecting that, but is going to let Annie know that she ain't leaving anytime soon.

Okay, so back to our bets about Annie's reaction, there were other alternatives proposed but they mean nothing now because this was amongst my 6 originals: 1. Annie is her "subtle" self and just tries to vanish "smoothly" to give them time together. Seems reasonable in the light of last time Kat had a crush on someone of her age. 2. Annie has grown into one mischievous teenager and goes to get Renard to celebrate/taunt. 3. Annie is suddenly upset about Kat not having told about her new relationship. This relatively likely option would probably have the most short-living consequences as it would just be solved with a laughter in a page soon to come. 4. Annie is "jealous" of Kat in the "best-friends" manner, running away as she suddenly feels she is no longer the closest person to Kat that she used to be as the best friend, because now Kat is dating someone, and that's even a girl so may feel like taking the best friend place as well.5. Annie is secretly in love with Kat and jealous. In light of the most recent events this no longer seems very likely, but she has a habit of wearing a mask, so this is at least a possibility. I really hope this is not true. A teenage love triangle drama just is not what I want to read about. Ugh, maybe it could have some interesting side effects in the main story line, I guess, but certainly am not enthusiastic about it. 6. Annie is homophobic and runs in disgust. I think this is very much an outside chance unlikely to occur, but had to list it as it could happen. So, if you called 4, please stand up!Well, thank you, can I have some cookies, for from the same post where I started booking bets, I can find this: Okay, the detail might appear a little wrong, but the main thing is, I called no 4, she is upset because Kat is distancing from her. Oh, by the way, this is also a part of the prophecy. Fantastic! Now, Annie's worry about Kat one day leaving her, that reminds us of the bind she seems to be putting on Kat. Shall we see Annie cutting Kat's arm later in this treatise? Also this: These changed a bit afterwards, though, but: cookies to Rymdljus and Basser as well!
