I think she just melted that guys fingers off. Also, off panel is treebeard staring wide eyed at Annie with his jaw dropped all the way to the ground realizing the shit hit the fan big time.
I wonder if there are any doubters left that still think she is fully human.

We had been debating whether this joker had fur on his paw when he was reaching for her. The answer has conclusively been shown to be 'not anymore'.
Also, the fire elemental form appears to accentuate the small artistic changes that have been bothering me about Annie's face recently. Maybe she's been transitioning slowly, and that's why her face was looking less familiar little bit by little bit?

Also, if there is a dominance hierarchy with these guys, I wonder who the big boss is when Ysengrin or coyote isn't around?
Maybe she still has to face the big boss guy, but then again, being the strongest doesn't necessarily mean that the big boss wouldn't also be smart.

Whelp.
I got what I asked for.
Lots and lots of fire.

Who is in charge? I presume tree-guy, but who knows. They followed his directions enough to attack the girl on fire, though. That says something.
And now I have an idea why this chapter is called 'Crash Course'. She's going to get more familiar asserting herself over other people ('people' used loosely here), for better or for worse in respect to how she interfaces with the other people in the Court.

Now I'm not sure if this is awesome because she's learning how to control and channel her fire/internal rage, and this will serve her better in life than her old tactic of an overly controlled exterior that explodes under too much pressure, or worrisome because it could be Coyote deliberately triggering her ancestry to pull her more to the Forest side and his influence. What's a good word that means awesome and worrisome? Worriawesome?

What's a good word that means awesome and worrisome? Worriawesome? Of the two above options, I'll take it as more of a good thing (unless, of course, she gets in the habit of pushing people around in the Court with her powers, but that's doubtful). However, there's really not anything that lives more in the intersection of 'awesome' and 'worrisome' than Coyote and his various antics.

"Know thyself" is good advice, no matter who's giving it.
And Coyote's antics are hereby dubbed awrisome.

Seemed more like he was getting attention towards Annie but is smart enough to not actually attack something that is clearly on fire.

Those shoes were black when this started. I wonder if it's the a light effect or if they're actually damaged.

Woo!
Annie finally found her battle face. I wondered when she'd get to the point where she didn't panic when confronted with a violent situation.

Woo! Annie finally found her battle face. I wondered when she'd get to the point where she didn't panic when confronted with a violent situation. Well, I think that she had trained herself to do that for a long time now, due to her upbringing. Throughout the comic, we can see herself calm or perhaps making herself calm during situations similar to this. Even if this was by repressing one's feelings. Also I just realised the parallel between these last two pages with these two pages.

She could make a camp fire with her blinker stone that would heat its surroudings, even though it wouldn't actually burning anything. Hell, there's even Ysengrin in flames right in middle of the battle, and his clothes(and self) are still quite fine(not the same to his enemies)! It's a quite selective fire.

Do not try this at home.
Well, that's her Halloween costume. Johnny Storm. Kat can use a little hair-dye and be Mrs. Fantastic. Rey can make himself look like the Thing. They can wait till someone asks where Sue Storm is, and say "She's invisible" in unison. If they Trick-R-Treat, Rey will get the most candy, naturally.

Every time I see that last panel, I hear the stock sound effect of a dog whining & running away in fear.

Support your tank. .. Set your enemies on fire. Create a fire around yourself. Set yourself on fire. That indeed escalated quickly. Also, the fire elemental form appears to accentuate the small artistic changes that have been bothering me about Annie's face recently. Maybe she's been transitioning slowly, and that's why her face was looking less familiar little bit by little bit? Yes, that was exactly what I was thinking when looking at this page and pages before.

Also, she does look like she's "transforming," which to me is just plain worrisome; so many characters (real and literary) are corrupted by the power they wield. "Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely." Is that where this is going? We'll see.
