Well, I had to re-login this morning, and start learning the new UI. One key question that I have is "where is the "new topic" button?"
Used to be easy, I just clicked on "new topics" and all the latest thread updates were at the top.
Next question, why doesn't clicking on "new" take me to new messages instead of to the beginning of a multi-page thread? That also used to work. If it's an active thread with ten pages, I don't want to go to page one, I want to go to the next message that is actually new to me.
Last question (for now) is "Why is it so very very sloooowwwww?"

Do you have "preview" or "BBCode" buttons working? I don't (Firefox).
It's so slow because the forum got new UI with truly hip features, like avatar editor (which doesn't work at all either) and "hot topics" filter called "Bookmarks". There's probably some Metaphorical Deep Meaning in this - ask the local members of Freud Youth.
It was necessary, most likely because someone on ProBoards staff wanted big bright kindergarten style icons and couldn't figure out how to install them separately. If this wasn't so, they'd stomp this eyebleach out or at least supplement with a different style in a hour of having to look at it, tops.

Under Gunnerkrigg Court home in the "threads and posts" section there are recent threads and recent posts buttons. Not sure if this is what you meant or not but I hope it helps. I only joined a few days ago and was just getting used to everything haha

Well we can "like" posts now, so that's kinda neat.

Ah, yes, found what you meant. It's also running a little more quickly now. No doubt the pain will eventually dissipate.

I'm using FF 21.0 on a Mac. xUbuntu, same version, obviously (what's with the updater). I got scripts allowed (for proboards.com and prbrds.com) and turned off caching proxy, so it's kind of weird that some work fine and others don't. Drat, where's the "don't display smileys checkbox? I much prefer the ascii to the icons. Meh. Color me "old fart". The easiest solution is to use Adblock filter ("http://images.proboards.com/v5/images/smiley/*") - the images go away, their alt-text remains.

i don't like change. and my dinosaur computer dislikes it even more than me. (although i have wished for a like button in the past, so that's nice)
did anyone else have to "upgrade" their account when they signed on? i'm not entirely sure what that was about

It is also no longer possible to get back from a thread unto the main board without having to scroll up to the top of the page; there used to be a nifty link on the bottom right of the page.
I guess this is consistent with the tendency nowadays to make UIs systematically worse whenever there's an update. If Jurassic Park has taught us anything, it's that computer engineers are evil.

What the hell. They made a new design, but I still can't reply by pressing Ctrl+Enter!

I'm not sure yet about this new interface. I wasn't particularly fond of the old one either, so I kinda don't mind it changing, though. Drat, where's the "don't display smileys checkbox? I much prefer the ascii to the icons. Meh. Color me "old fart". You can disables smileys in your profile settings.

You can disables smileys in your profile settings. Thanks, I'll take a look. I'd prefer that others see what I type, not something triggered by what I type.

Seriously, how the heck do you lose a "next page" button? A yellow guy shows up and eats it?

Seriously, how the heck do you lose a "next page" button? A yellow guy shows up and eats it? Well, the "next" and "prev" buttons seem to work on multi-page threads, at least for me. Figured out that if I put the url into the address bar with "/threads/recent", that it would display a window with the new threads at the top. I suppose I can live with that.

FUCKIN SPOILER TAGS!!! YESSSSSSSSSSSS! Reply notifications too! More room for annoying siggies! The only thing I am dubious about are the strange gray-alien faces that are the new default avatar. They creep me out.

The "prev" and "next" buttons are at the top for me, even when I scroll down. Create new post is "new thread" on the right at the top just above the search and "last post" BBcode etc buttons turn up for me when using the full reply form. Reply is at the top right above the search bar, and at the bottom right, in line with the top of the "quick reply" The ability to bookmark a thread existed in the last form UI as well Unfortunately I can't find an easy link to go back to the main discussion except at the top of the page. Hope that helps! I quite like the new UI, however note that I'm using a gaming laptop here .

Oooh, shiney. I am okay with this.
Edit: Not so much with the new default avatar though.

I kinda miss the compactness of the old forum. How come every time someone upgrades a user interface they add a ton of unnecessary padding?

Is there a button to link directly to the first unread post in a thread anymore?

^Yes, it just has to register again, this is what I wanted to ask now, but seeing how when I cliked "new" it jumped to your post, it works, you just have to read the topic again first. : )
Also, let me say I hate the update too, the same reasons everyone else stated. -_-

Next question, why doesn't clicking on "new" take me to new messages instead of to the beginning of a multi-page thread? That also used to work. If it's an active thread with ten pages, I don't want to go to page one, I want to go to the next message that is actually new to me. Maybe because it has no memory of what's new to you since the upgrade, so assumes everything is new. You can mark the board as read, and see if works for new posts then.

If it's an active thread with ten pages, I don't want to go to page one, I want to go to the next message that is actually new to me. It'll only do that the first time. Every time after that it'll take you to the actual first new post. This isn't a feature new to this update, it was already like that. I only signed up to the forum a few days ago, and for the first little while any thread that was already in progress dumped me on the first post instead of what was actually new. did anyone else have to "upgrade" their account when they signed on? i'm not entirely sure what that was about It looked to me like they're making the accounts universal, so you can use the same account across multiple ProBoards without having to set up all your information all over again. EDIT: Oh, haha, only just noticed that the quotes show the quoted person's avatar. Neat. And apparently you can Like your own posts.

I personally liked the old design better. Everything feels unnecessarily large in this one.
Ah well. I'm sure I'll get use to it soon enough.

That thing is terrifying. I've never liked those scripts that mash together a generic, anime'd-up frankenavy with your hair/eye color, but this one is right in the middle of uncanny valley.

Ok, pretty sure I never selected a gender for my profile so where did that come from? Did it steal that from the email address it made me verify?
i don't suppose there's any way to unselect it?
(Nevermind, you can hide it with the privacy settings)
