So, who here is old enough to actually recognise that this letter was printed on a needle printer on that ridiculous green/white endless paper? I am! I had one of those as a small small child. I loved it. Ripping off perforated strips was the most entertaining thing in the world. To this day I still love separated perforated sheets; there's just something really satisfyingly tangible about it. Anyhow, I think it's a pretty sure sign that it's from a robot. Why would a robot write with pen and ink when he could just use printouts? Perhaps Kat's getting fan letters.

Well, after taking a 3 or 4 week break from Gunners Krag as the desperately waiting till 6.30pm every Monday, Tuesday and Friday thing (6.30PM is when the new page is released in my timezone) was sorta annoying me, I'm back to the forum and reading Gunnerkrigg Court, though most will never have noticed I was gone.
I don't think it's from a robot. The whole heart thing looking vector like just seems to obvious, Tom doesn't do that, he makes people look back through past pages for something. I'm calling Paz. Tom doesn't seem like the conservative story writer who will never write outside of expected norms, after all, Gunnerkrigg Court is pretty crazy
Edit:
On second thought, the note looks like it's written on the long paper sheets they used to print code on. I really don't know now...
I probably won't have an answer for a while, seeing as it looks like we're on a few week break for here on out. I'll have some fun deciphering the Treatise though

Could be from a robot (Boxbot? ), though I'm kind of hoping it's not. It'd be interesting to see another human-person being interested in Kat. (Or a forest-person, but again, that seems unlikely.)

So, who here is old enough to actually recognise that this letter was printed on a needle printer on that ridiculous green/white endless paper? I remember buying the things for home use. There are still situations where they are the best choice. I'd prefer them for a significant volume of pre-printed forms, for example, because precise reliable paper movement with sheet-feed is really expensive. And then there's this...

I sincerely believe it is from the Seraphs.
I don't think it is a love letter at all. I think it is printed code.
Code that is the "heart" of the robots.
Or it could just be some new girl/boy! That would be awesome too!

Perhaps the heart is a reference to the heart of the golems. I sincerely believe it is from the Seraphs. I don't think it is a love letter at all. I think it is printed code. Code that is the "heart" of the robots. This. Also, I'd do anything to be as ecstatic as Kat, in panel 1. I'd punch small child. Not a baby or anything, but you know...

So, who here is old enough to actually recognise that this letter was printed on a needle printer on that ridiculous green/white endless paper? I'm certainly not; although I'm probably unique on this forum in knowing how to send raw data to such a printer, line by line. In Assembly code. ;D

I think it's about time for Kat's parents to have a chat with her about the Birds and the Beeps.

Huh...this certainly supports my theory of Paz having written the letter, which I wrote on last page's discussion. I'm interested to find out who it was, and their reasons for writing the love letter

If this IS a love letter from a robot... In this chapter, the ravages of puberty leave no one unscathed! I'm not suspicious. The Court robots are pretty much designed to be outwitted by humans. For all we know they wanted to take our Robot off to throw a party for him and give him moist, delicious cake. Oh! Oh! Seeing as the chapter title is "Changes", these Seraphs have detected that S13 is on the verge of robo-puberty, so they're carting him off to watch the mandatory educational video about his upcoming hardware upgrades. ...does that count as "calling it"?

Maybe it's not really a love letter. Maybe it's message, from her parents.

I don't think it's from a robot. [...] Tom doesn't seem like the conservative story writer who will never write outside of expected norms I want to know, but I'm afraid to ask... I think it's about time for Kat's parents to have a chat with her about the Birds and the Beeps. Should have remembered to do that before Warehouse-1. I'm certainly not; although I'm probably unique on this forum in knowing how to send raw data to such a printer, line by line. In Assembly code. ;D You still remembers specifical indices of some old API? I can only hope it's not because they come back in nightmares. I mean, it's not like there aren't still good uses like 386EX and suchlike, where something like FreeDOS (or even Novell DOS, what with advanced Ethernet support and somewhat-multitasking) could shine, but... Code! Code! We demand code! (sighs) well... (finds Tom Swan's tasm manual) DATASEG [...] mystring DB 'this string is printed' LenString = $ - mystring CODESEG [...] mov ah, 040h ; DOS function "write to..." mov bx, 4 ; built-in "standard printer" descriptor mov cx, LenString mov dx, offset mystring int 21h ; call DOS to do it for you Here you go. For DOS compatible environment, anyway. Happy now?

It's Kat From The Future!
"Dear Kat From Past,
If my calculations are correct, you will receive this letter immediately after you move in with Annie. First, let me assure you that I am alive and well. I've been living happily these past eight months in the 90's, thus the greenbar paper. The lightning bolt that hit the Boxbot caused a gigawatt overload..."

I wonder if it was sent to Annie's room because the sender was unsure of passing it on to Kat. That could support the Paz angle I suppose, if she wanted to make sure of Kat's orientation. Still seems like avoiding one awkward situation by creating another though. Volunteering at the Court she would likely have access to such paper though. Who else would benefit by having someone else vet the letter before it reaches Kat? Perhaps it contains some very sensitive news?

Somehow this page, especially the fact that it's a cliffhanger with a certain sense of weight, reminds me a lot of this page: www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=1000Which makes me think it's not something insignificant like a robot with a crush - Tom chose to end the chapter here so this must be very important news for Kat and her character development. I'm leaning more towards Paz or bird-boy.
