The heart on the front is a ruse! Robots don't understand love.
Her first letter addressed to her via her new responsibilities? "Dear Forest Medium, your attention is required regarding the topic of the Annan Waters.
Signed Jeanne.
PS. I'm coming for you. PPS. I'm not actually Jeanne. But seriously, please take care of this problem."

Well, if it was from Kat I would have expected her to look more nervous.

Guys, this is obviously a love letter from a robot for Kat. It's never said that it's a letter for Annie, although Annie is called to pick it up. Perhaps it's addressed to Annie or instructed to give to Annie because they're too shy to go directly like that thing 'P-Please give this to that friend of yours!'.
Which robot? Doesn't matter. A generic robot, because we're setting up for the scene where kat has like a thousand love letters in her locker the next day, and so on, and so forth.

It's most definitely her father, who has reasoned that Annie is Surma reborn.

Either the heart is a red herring and the letter was sent by someone who just likes hearts or the whole thing is indeed a ruse fabricated by Lindsey to get Kat to come out/talk about her feelings/ whatever

Also reminds me of a bonus comic that tells how to deal with that situation, unfortunately the comic site is down at the moment.

On computer paper, with a heart drawn in straight lines? Is it from a robot? Oh noI suspect it's not a robot, but rather someone who just wanted to remain anonymous for the time being, and so typed up the love letter on the nearest computer... but they were in a computer museum at the time. (Seriously though, I don't think it's a robot, but it would be pretty hilarious if it was one of the Seraph robots) My guess is that it's a new character, who may or may not remain significant in the long run. THINGS KEEP HAPPENING IN THIS CHAPTER AND IT IS GREAT. Can't wait for the next page! EDIT: I wonder if its one of the guys from this chapter? Hhhhmmm.... nah, I'll still going to stand by my 'new character' guess.

Kat very clearly likes Boys... of the avian variety.
the letter? diffidently printed from an old printer. to tell the truth I have seen those printers still in use inside the past 15 years. so I know that paper could still be purchased before the year 2000.
Location of an old printer inside the court? Working Museum piece, Robot technological archive, old office, old office supplies storage room or closet. And perhaps one could easily be found in a storage room or on a shelf in Kat's Workshop/warehouse
on the envelope is an angular stylized heart. could be drawn by hand or could have been printed by a robot. could also have been drawn by a robot

Kat very clearly likes Boys... of the avian variety Obligatory reminder that liking boys is not mutually exclusive with liking girls. I don't think/hope it's Kat, though. I just really like her and Annie as platonic friends. And getting flustered when someone implies you like someone does not necessarily mean you like them, as much as the implication makes you feel awkward... Maybe it's a new character who saw her fire head hijinks and has a thing for fiery women?

My guesses in order of likelihood: 1. Possibly an old letter from Surma that was dated to be sent to Annie when she reached a certain age or after a certain event transpired. Becoming a medium perhaps? 2. Somebody we've never heard of. 3. Perhaps Anthony is trying to contact his daughter in secret? Maybe assumed that she wouldn't open it with other people around? Still doesn't explain the use of this particular method. 4. It's a letter to somebody else sent to Annie to stir up some trouble. An old letter from the Rey/Eglamore/Anthony/Surma love square? Somebody trying to open up old wounds? Or maybe provide insight? 5. Lindsey's trying to meddle. Weird that somebody in charge of school dorms would let two girls sleep in the same room then set them up together though.

...3. Perhaps Anthony is trying to contact his daughter in secret? Maybe assumed that she wouldn't open it with other people around? Still doesn't explain the use of this particular method.... An interesting thought. It's possible Anthony is in a location here physical mail delivery is not possible (space?) - so he'd send a letter or a telegram. The US postal service used to have such a thing - where your letter would be printed-out (on that holed paper) and mailed right at the post office. Do we know when Annie's birthday is? Or how close to valentine's day it is in the GKC universe? Actually, a letter of congratulations would be appropriate - perhaps the Dolans or Eglamore? Having it be from anyone in the forest would be out of character.

I'm pretty sure Tom confirmed that Annie's birthday was never stated. Being named as medium by somebody unexpected after duking it out with the secret robot police would be an interesting way to mark the passing of another year.

Cam someone please link me to "that green dude" that everyone else was talking about in the comments? So far I'm going with: it's not a love letter, or it's not for Annie.

4. It's a letter to somebody else sent to Annie to stir up some trouble. An old letter from the Rey/Eglamore/Anthony/Surma love square? Somebody trying to open up old wounds? Or maybe provide insight? I did sorta have in the back of my mind the possibility that it could be someone sending a "joke" letter "congratulating" Kat and Antimony on moving in together (which might've been foreshadowed in the beginning of the chapter). I am hoping it will be a background character boy who's been overlooked in the comic until now, or an amorous robot... maybe one who's eyes she looked deeply into at some point. But the only places that I know of that still use paper like that are institutions... like for bills, grades or test results and stuff. The heart is a common symbol for hospitals; maybe the financial support Anthony arranged didn't cover Antimony's hospital visit in ch. 38... or maybe she needs to repeat some classes from last year...

"From Seraph Bots 6-11: You really pushed our buttons!" I imagine them making 5 1/4 drive sounds, instead of purring at her.
Perhaps, it is a love letter, but not for Annie. This wouldn't be the first time, that she's been mistaken for another "A. Carver". It'd be interesting, if the next chapter involves one of Antony's old flames.

I knew Rey's face would get stuck that way, with all the times he's made that expression this story arc.

I cannot for the life of me explain why, but for some reason the first thing that popped up in my head when I saw that letter was Paz.
I like the Anthony sending a message idea a lot though.

I'm hoping it's a new character, but we haven't had a new character for some time now, have we?
I doubt it's from the forest, since Jeanne's green lover sent letters by hawk.

Might be the recording robot from the beginning of the chapter, he seemed to like Kat, assuming the note is for Kat, not Annie.

Jack, you hound! Macking on two girls in one letter? While twisted on pills? With one of them being a potential lesbian? Such daring! Also, quotes in quotes.

This chapter is just all over the place. Looks like Tom wants to get into a very specific point before the next book starts. Not that I'm complaining!
I really doubt that this turn of events is going to legitimise any of the ships. There's no way that Kat could be so calm (or would approach the issue that way, anyway) and Jack just doesn't seem like a dot-matrix printer kind of guy, even if he was inclined to stereotypical love letters. The best (read: most fun) theory that I could come up with so far is that it's actually a peace offer from the Seraphs. Mostly because I'd really like to see how they've interpreted Annie's role in their theology; if Kat is the Angel, then who is her mysterious companion?

Kat and her sometimes-acquaintance name_not_found, who provides her with distractions from her true divine purpose of robot ascension

Maybe it IS from Kat, but just not in the way we all expect! People (Paz) are starting to think she has a crush on Annie. So maybe to throw off the scent, she sent a letter, pretending it was from a boy! That way, people will hear Annie is receiving love letters from some guy, and attention is drawn away from Kat! Haha, or maybe that's too confusing and round-about?
