But then you WAKE UP from a nightmare or something and bang your head against the bottom of the upper bunk. (I only had that happen once, but that more than enough.) I remember a similar experience while sleeping on the USS Hornet. I got put in the top bunk and the pipes on the ceiling were literally inches from my face. I got several bruises before I decided to swap bunks with my downstairs neighbor. The moral of this story is that there are downsides to bunk beds.
