I guess that Jones was talking about Eglamore's successor? Because otherwise, I got nothing. Oh! Maybe the Headmaster changed his mind or went against Jones's recommendation. Hm.
I like how the beat panel is last.

Tom, of course, has to twist the twist.
Does time seem frozen in that last panel? Coyote?

Does time seem frozen in that last panel? Coyote? My guess was a beat panel. Like, in the very next panel they'd've all yelled out, "WHAT?!" Monday will be interesting! But then, it usually is. =)

Tom, of course, has to twist the twist. Does time seem frozen in that last panel? Coyote? Everything about the dialogue seems really, really stilted here. But given that Smitty seems to cut off in the second to last panel, I think maybe you're right about time being frozen. I thought it was a beat panel at first, too, but Tom would have changed their expressions if that were the case.

I guess that Jones was talking about Eglamore's successor? I think so too. Parley must have been chosen as the successor to the Dragon Slayer position, which just makes sense when you think about her attitudes and her skill set. Maybe Annie will be Andrew's advisor to the medium position. On another tangent, this whole scene made me laugh. Hard. Seriously, my roommate's weirded out. Edit: Oh! Forgot to say, way to go Smitty! This day's just going awesome for him.

The dialogue probably seems stilted because they kind of rehearsed it in their heads beforehand.

Tom, of course, has to twist the twist. Does time seem frozen in that last panel? Coyote? That would be the moment, when their minds tries to comprehend the nature of the parallel bizarro-universe they suddenly dropped in. Not that surprising for me, but still... Well played Tom... Well played.

I think the best part is Reynard being confused and trying to figure out why they stopped (or I guess keep) talking.

Well, there was bound to be a twist, because otherwise there'd be little point in spending several pages on this. But this sure is weird. Whatever happened to "she is the clear choice?" Maybe Smitty's powers interfered with their decision? Is that...something he can do?

Wow, someone is definitely screwing around and it seems only Reynard has noticed this.
My guess? Coyote still wants him back and is using this is a prime opportunity to retrieve him.

It can't be time freezing because everything didn't go blue. D: But then why did he cut himself off and why did their faces not change and I am so confused??

Parley must have been chosen as the successor to the Dragon Slayer position, which just makes sense when you think about her attitudes and her skill set. Sir George. Not a bad name for a dragon-slayer.

Is this a coyote trick or did they actually pick Smitty over Annie because of his ability? Is time stopped in the last panel or is it just a x3 beat combo? If Annie's not being the medium, who was Jones previously referring to and for what?
SO MANY QUESTIONS

I didn't understand what was going on at first, I thought they were talking about something else, like, Andrew got the job so Annie automatically get another job that they know of and... but then I saw the last pannel.
And laughed.
And laughed.
And laughed.
Oh boy.
I swear I have seen that gag before but, the delivery here, so perfect.

It's taking them a moment to process what just happened.

Pretty sure they're just shocked to the point where they're sort of "frozen in place" (not literally), and Coyote has nothing to do with it. It's just for comedic effect, really. But this sure is weird. Whatever happened to "she is the clear choice?" Maybe Smitty's powers interfered with their decision? Is that...something he can do? Pretty sure she might have been talking about something else in mind for George/Annie and that he just decided that while he's going to announce the Medium, there will also be announcements for other positions.

I'm torn on whether this is just for humor or if there's something weird going on.
I mean... he starts the sentence with Smitty's name! You can't miss that part! And they talk so long and... and the last two panels. And Renard! And we're gonna have to wait till monday D:

Definitely a double take in the near future. Another possibility is; we heard what Rey heard, which isn't necessarily what the others heard. It will be nice to see Jones' reaction, too.

saw that one the moment it cliffhangered last comic. I even guessed right. Parley has been getting too much attention to be the logical choice in Tom's twisty plots XD Also, I should point out that while jones may have recommended annie or parley, note that the headmaster never says he's going to follow her recommendation. I thought that was a touch odd at the time. My brilliance is once more proved

Annie's been anti-authoritarian and spending a lot of time in the forest lately, so I was thinking it would be a strange choice to place her in a diplomatic role like that. It could also be a way of diplomatically protecting her from Coyote for some reason, but...
My favorite thing is that she expected to get it just as much as everyone else did, so she had an acceptably modest acceptance speech already planned out. All the way down to "I'm surprised they chose me!" So great.

Assuming there's nothing weird going on everyone's reactions will be interesting.
How many people knew beforehand? Did Jones? Kat's parents? How's Ysengrin gonna take it that he'd be dealing with Smitty from now on? Will Coyote be upset he can't make Annie sit around telling him stories or will he be all "Haha I love good plot twists"?
Also, what does this make of Jones' comment that Annie's important to the court? Do they have some sinister plan for her?
