I just made an account to convey my concern at the fact that I honestly don't think she'll get the job.... Like I pointed out, nominations like this are almost never actually done by surprise, at least in the real world. People who get nominated get told before the ceremony so they can prepare themselves. But more importantly, in this case, it gives a lot more plot development possibilities if Annie gets nominated as the Court Medium. It puts a lot more pressure on her, and makes her a part of the Court's internal politics. This has a chance to show us yet another aspect of the Court that has only been hinted at, thus far. I think that he has been in wolf-shape in more panels of the comic than in plush shape, at this point.

It seems like everyone is expecting some sort of twist. It'd be neat if Annie's dad showed up.

Of course, it's equally possible that Parley might be chosen (the only other plausible candidate, since we know that the person being chosen is female, which rules out Andrew) as part of a humility lesson for Annie (alongside Zimmy being the one to solve the Jack problem or Parley being apparently the one to solve the Jeanne problem - apparently, since that arc hasn't been completed yet). Both Annie and Parley have different advantages and disadvantages for the role (Annie takes far more interest in the goings-on at the court than Parley - who only stayed in medium class because Andrew was taking it, and who was ready to hold up Annie's first class just to watch a duel between Jones and Eglamore, but has gotten into a lot of disciplinary trouble). We'll have to wait and see.

I've been expecting a twist since that's Tom's style, but was concerned because Annie not being the new Medium was a bit too obvious. But that being just a red herring to distract from the real twist, when something completely unexpected shows up... That makes a lot more sense.

Annie has also shown herself to be impetuous and perhaps insufficiently neutral in Gunnerkrigg/Gillitie relations. I'd be surprised if Jones hasn't at least been conflicted about choosing her.
On the other hand, I can't imagine that she'd go so far as to recommend Parley instead, even if Parley is pretty cool.

Maybe we would be facing a situation where Annie and Rey would be forced away from each other.
I give up on the twists thing. It happens (which it probably will) or it won't.
I'm more worried about what's in stored beyond this.
My head is developing this thought that this chapter will end up being a separation-and-then-loneliness montage. You know, that kind of montage where everyone splits up and ends up alone one reason or another, and we'll see how miserable everyone will be when it happens.

Although some have feared that the Medium job will actually go to Parley, this seems increasingly improbable. Indeed, Parley has been of the opinion for quite a while that the position was Annie's. In my opinion the nomination occurred here, and was confirmed here. As far as the decision process is concerned, everything since then was going through the motions for the sake of formalities and proper documentation.
