Sorry, I think there was one from before but I couldn't find it... anyway, just wanted to share the Jones' data I've been collecting for some time now.
Google Map with approximate destinations plotted: goo.gl/B0JKR
Notice how distance between points crudely scale logarithmically as does time
(1095) Today: "Who are you?"
(1096) Yesterday: Medium choice with Jonathan the headmaster
(1097) A week ago: Reading with Elgamore on her lap
(1098) A year ago: With wounded Elgamore on a dragon cliff
(1099) Several years ago: Elgamore jealous of Anthony; Jones: "I will always be here for you, James"
(1100) Many years ago: Donald introduced to James in Gunnerkrigg (from outside the court, joining year 7)
(1101) Decades ago: Taking James away from his old home
(1102) Several decades ago: Chilwell Filling Factory, takes name of Edward Jones (from Emma).19181924.
(1103) Many decades ago: Langdon estate scandal, everything is taken from her
(1104) The previous century: Jones keeps name of "Elizabeth" (otherwise Emma?), takes name of Samuel (not John) Langdon and his estate
(1105) The previous century: Governess Jones arrives
(1106) Several centuries ago: Jamestown, VA. She went "missing" shortly after.
(1107) Many centuries ago: Knights Templar, Western Europe, likely the end of the 14th Century
(1108) Millennia ago: the burning of Rome (Nero)
(1109) Several millennia ago: Gobi desert
(1110) Many millennia ago: Cro-Magnon, assuming ancient Europe
(1111) The previous epoch: Pleistocene epoch
(1112) Several eras ago: Silurian period (3rd/6) of the Paleozoic era; Jones opens eyes
(1113) Many eons ago: Hadean period (~4.5-3.8 Gya). Earliest known eon of the formation of the Earth. Earliest simple lifeforms may have survived this era. Giant impact hypothesis for the formation of the Moon @ ~4.53 Gya (collision of protoplanet Theia to form Selene).
Things that are confirmed for me:
1) Jones does not align herself on either side / not "beholden to anyone" / does not make demands of people (375, 575, 818) (Yes, equating "beholden" with the others is an assumption)
2) She is very hard (380, 1107), strong (727) and heavy (587, 727)
3) She is either immortal, or aging is negligibly slow (quite probably due to what she is, like in fact 2 above)
4) She has a complete lack of emotion / is objective (see fact 1), BUT understands emotion (586)
5) She "acquires names" from male humans, usually through some long-term companionship.
6) She knows Coyote's great secret (1076)
7) Jones and Coyote have had some previous history regarding Jones' ability over Coyote (818)
8) She cannot use blinker stones (515).Word of Tom has Jones appearing grey in Annie's EtherView, i.e. she also has no etheric abilities at all --> Note: This is very significant as it puts a severely limitation on theories of what Jones is
Update: Jones is confirmed to be unable to see the ether: www.formspring.me/gunnerkrigg/q/1212329591
9) She is not a robot
Things that are not confirmed, but can be strongly inferred:
10) Jones isprobably not part elemental.
Confirmed: www.formspring.me/gunnerkrigg/q/994367597
11) Jones isprobably not a golem.
Confirmed: www.formspring.me/gunnerkrigg/q/994367597
12) Jones is probably not the "Great Spirit" mentioned by Coyote who put stars in the sky (488). Given Coyote's manner of speech, "the Great Spirit" is unlikely Jones herself (or else Coyote would call the Spirit "Wandering Eye" directly); Jones' is likely derivative of, or in direct relation to, this "Great Spriit" (1076). Secondly, given Jones' form in Annie's dream (which has to be related to the impressions Annie has of her at the time, including the description from Ysengrin), it is more likely that she is a created being rather than a god.
13) We can clearly infer that Jones does not fit into Coyote's theory at first glance, but becomes a "perfect illustration" upon further investigation (1076). Note that Coyote's theory can be summarized as:
i) Coyote lives almost entirely in the ether, and so he technically does not exist (I like to think of him as a very, very large purely imaginary number, in a world of complex numbers, like Annie and Red, and real numbers, like Kat)
ii) The ether is composed of the myths from the mind of man
iii) These myths enter the ether when a person dies
iv) Mythologization / creativity / extrapolation / rationalization is a disease
v) Due to ii), Coyote believes that man "created" himself, and so hierarchically making man greater than he
14)In her current state, Jones likely has power rivaling that of Coyote, since she states that she can "take [Annie] if she wants" (818), which further implies she is in some essential way similar to Coyote. Possibly referring to her superhuman physical attributes. Not confirmed since there are other possible explanations, such as her being a powerful wizardess / alchemist that is also a squib (to borrow a Harry Potter term) due to fact 8. Update: She is less powerful than Coyote. See update [1] above.
Some new updates:
[1] Jones is likely not some literal (as in, non-symbolic) counterpart of Coyote (god counterpart in the Court vs. god in the Forest). We can see this through Reynard, who is the cousin of Coyote, both of which seems to be in their true forms (see Annie's EtherView of each of them). She also went great lengths to remain neutral (fact 1).
[2] Jones is not a reference to any existing mythology: www.formspring.me/gunnerkrigg/q/278815796224853689
[3] Coyote is more powerful than Jones: www.formspring.me/gunnerkrigg/q/269863160
[4] Jones' most favorite thing is "discovery" (http://www.formspring.me/gunnerkrigg/q/663794360)
[5] Jones spends her free time "observing" (http://www.formspring.me/gunnerkrigg/q/1391396806)
Things that I'm not sure about at all:
1) Why Jones is naked and in the forest, along with an elf (Kamlen?) in Annie's dream in "Divine"
2) What exactly Ysengrin told Annie about Jones
3) The exact nature of the previous history between Jones' and Coyote, as alluded to in fact 7 above (aka. 818)
New: 4) Is there a deeper reason for Surma not to like Jones?
Hypotheses (now including what people have mentioned here):
Jones' is a meteorite , which happens to be Odin (who in turn is "The Great Spirit")'s sacrificed eye...... Ysengrin probably told Annie vaguely that Jones was "also born from the ether", which in Annie's mind contradicts the fact that Jones' has no etheric abilities...[]... Scrapped since [1111], as i) Jones is older than any human being (and hence Coyote as well), and ii) Word of Tom in update [2].
1) Jones is a "sentient meteorite" of sorts.
However, still possible that Jones is from a meteorite, the hunch still being based off of how Coyote asked Annie to ask Jones about the stars in the sky. Given that we are now at a quickening pace to the earliest known geological era of the Earth, the formation of the moon via the giant impact hypothesis may provide a possible pathway to the introduction of Jones (it's a great stretch, I know).
At this point it seems more logical that Ysengrin told Annie that Jones existed before humans (which is the only factual point we could get out of the time lapse anyway), which contradicts Coyote's theory of the ether. With the existing facts I am unsure how to proceed with explaining this out.
2) redfeather: Jones is a mirror opposite of Coyote / animals' ideas about humanity
3) rumbletiger: Jones is humanity's idea about himself
--> Unless the mind of animals / mankind retroactively cause things to exist, these myths 2 and 3 are busted... =(
4) silverware: Jones is the embodiment of Science
5) irismon: Jones is one of the Venus figures
6) meredith: "Jones is the Stone (asteroid) that killed dinosaurs. She couldn't return to the stars, so she stayed on Earth. That's why Coyote told Annie to ask her about the stars - she has been there!"
--> Currently in Hadean eon =(
7) murigan: Since Jones is seemingly impartial and, while interacting with people, observes rather than do anything else, I think she's an entity created by either the gods or aliens to observe earth/humanity. Her name implies as much, that she travels around observing.
--> Possibly that "god" who created may be "The Great Spirit" who is a "true god" that may have existed before humanity (as opposed to Coyote, who is a created being sort of "god")?
*am opting to aliens more than gods, since it's implied gods were given birth to by intelligent thinking and the recent release marks her as being there earlier than it would have been able.
8) (elsewhere) Jones is the Mother Earth.
Testable conjectures:
We will soon see Jones' previous meeting with Coyote from many, many millennia / eras ago.
---> Update: I guess not this chapter? Seems like we are going directly towards the beginning of Jones.
Questions to ask regarding hypotheses:
1a) Given that Jones cannot see the ether, and that she existed before humanity existed, what is Jones' relationship to the ether?
1b) Alternatively, how does her existence parallel Coyote's (tho not necessarily through the ether)? Note: this is justified due to Annie considering her appropriate to Coyote's theory up to a certain point, before labelling her an exception (rather than non-applicable).
2) What is Jones' relationship to "the stars in the sky"?
3) Does she have any relationship to the "Great Spirit" who put stars in the sky? If so, in what way?
4) How does the hypothesis explain Jones being emotionless / abnormally heavy/strong/hard etc?
