My bet's on her being a bit of Coyote that didn't get along with the rest of him. Seconded. A wandering eye I guess

Many indigenous religions have an emphasis on maintaining the status quo, usually through a balance of power in the gods. As such, it would be reasonable to assume that if Jones is a part of Coyote that is in open rebellion, she was of equivalent strength. Whether or not Coyote has gained strength since then is debatable. Personally, I am not betting on her being part of Coyote. (After all, I've seen Tom's art.)

A wandering eye I guess Second Eye Coyote said when he was juggling his eyes one time, he threw one so high it became Arcturus. What if *crazy theory mode activate* the other eye also escaped and became the "Wandering Eye"?

I do wonder how Jones is going to react; she's kinda being rude. Heh. Perhaps answer her question with a question? -- Next page: "And then Jones explained what she was, and I had no more questions on that matter". Yes, but by now we half-expect this, so... lel

Everything I have thought of thus far leads me towards her being the personification of one of the ' planets'. The planets were once considered 'stars', after all.

I'm still thinking Galatea, guys. Maybe the stars are the cause of or inspiration for the origin of this version's fable or something.
By the by, why isn't Antimony wearing her shoes? Wouldn't they have had to pass them anyway if they returned using the bridge?
Hrm... Must make another shoe-related fan parody comic...

I bet that Jones double-exists to compensate for Coyote's lack of existence.

First thought: Rude. But now I'm wondering what Jones is doing in the dark like that. Maybe she just likes working that way? I'm excited to see what will happen in this chapter.

I call Earth Elemental. Counterpoint to Annie's Fire Elemental. She's high density, extremely strong and seems fairly impervious to weapons. Might fit that she is made of "rock". Also note the chapter title: "Stone" Nicely personified in her mostly 'stone-faced' demeanor.
There haven't been any other elementals seen yet, just various fairy folk associated with the natural world. But if there are fire elementals, there must be the others. Minimum I would expect the classic four: Fire, Earth, Air, and Water.

Jones probably appreciates people who get to the point instead of wasting time with small talk. I also like that they're nicknamed the smiles brigade.

My theory is that she's actually a robot. The strip / commentary has been insisting otherwise, making it that much more shocking and strange when she turns out to be one.
We could add a mythological element to this as well. She could have been created by Hephaestus or some other sort of forge god, and be fueled by etheric rather than traditional robotic/mechanical means. Similar to Diego's older, more specialized models, but perhaps even more advanced because she was created by a god.
We could expand this theory even further, saying that Hephaestus (or some other forge god?) created the Tic Tocs as well. Tic Tocs and Jones were guardian robots intended to guard Gunnerkrig, much like Talos was a guardian robot intended to guard Crete in Greek myth.
Totally a robot, guys. Or at least some sort of bronze woman.

I'm pretty sure Tom has said that Jones is something of his own construct... I guess that could be taken to mean it's derivative of some legend/being that already exists.

But don't even stars orbit something? Most stars orbit the galactic center, though with a period so long that no human would notice a shift during his or her lifetime. Anyway, I think we're about to get The Answer. The time has come. There's been enough trolling foreshadowing by now that dancing around it would be pointless.

Ahaha, that's great. You really get it. I imagine Ysengrin gave her a vague half-explanation that was enough for Annie before, but not anymore. One theory that I give a little weight to, despite it being somewhat out-there: whatever Jones is, Annie's father is one of those too. I'd give this a 10% chance of being true, which is better than most of the other Jones-related theories I've heard. (Not because all the theories are that awful, but because Jones is that mysterious, and this story is difficult to predict.)
