Am I the only one who sees this as one of those crazy pop philosophy questions, like, "What is the sound of one hand clapping?" or "If a tree falls in the woods, does it make a sound?" In this case, it'd be, "If a man is eaten by a coyote in the desert, does Annie still make a deadpan comment about it?"

This will definitely raise at least one of her eyebrows, quizzically, disapprovingly, or both. Called. Coyote's mouth will be open on at least one panel on the next page. He likes to show off his teeth and this current topic is the perfect opportunity to do so. EDIT: On another note, I wonder if Annie is annoyed with Coyote just playing around with her, or if she's starting to get frightened of what she's hearing. She's no longer saying anything about the village, she just wants to leave. And Coyote looks like he's about to swallow her whole. I bet that would be the most psychedelic experience in the world. Sounds like she's having... A bad trip

For those that don't know, I want to point out that real coyotes don't laugh. Thankyou. I was having trouble identifying *the* Coyote from all those other nearly genetically identical canines! (Coyote probably has the same problem with simians)

My (not-very-likely) guess is that the man is Ysengrin and the coyote is... Coyote I guess? If that doesn't work out, my next guess is that the man is Jones.

It seems existential as hell...like, circle of life stuff. Here's hoping there's a deadpan reaction from Annie, though!

Seems we've all come to largely the same conclusion here, regarding what Coyote is hinting at here. Watch us all be dead wrong! Didn't he specifically say that it is Man's attempt to become God? All the more perspective! So uhm... I wonder if this story will moralize at us. Is man striving to become god a bad thing? Good? Neutral? It'd be awfully convenient for a god to tell other people that they shouldn't want his level of power. Don't want that competition... Actually, according to Coyote he tried to give his powers away to Reynardine. Although "for some reason" whenever he gives his powers away it sort of backfires, so maybe that's not a great example. Still, Coyote hasn't had any qualms so far about teaching Annie to gain powers.

Still, Coyote hasn't had any qualms so far about teaching Annie to gain powers. Maybe it's like a universal lesson he isn't getting. Like, "Give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, he'll never go hungry." Except this concerns the difference between *giving* power, and teaching people to develop their own power. Coyote is very impatient, and I think he could learn a lot from Jones hehe, and visa versa.
