It's nice to see Annie moving away from putting up her "mask" of sorts. I actually don't really ship anyone in this comic, and... don't really care that much who ends up with who! However, a friend of mine ended up going through a similar experience as Kat had with Paz. This friend of mine was pretty troubled by it and got pretty self-conscious about herself for awhile. She knew she wasn't interested in girls in a romantic/sexual way, but it still bothered her that people thought she was. I can't help seeing my friend in Kat, so I don't really think she's a lesbian or anything like that... Especially after her interactions with Aly.

Unless there were a bunch of posts deleted when I wasn't paying attention then I think the people on this forum have actually done very well when discussing touchy topics. Have you guys seen the rest of the internet lately? [edit] And welcome to the forums, Beatrice! [/edit] Way back in 2007 or 2008, there was a thread specifically about the question of whether Annie and Kat were interested in each other. Tom locked it because the arguments got nasty; I don't know if the thread was deleted or not. We're probably more level-headed than your average internet watering hole, but our record isn't completely spotless either.

If you're referring to the ComixMix tourney, I do not hold either fandom particularly accountable for any unpleasantness. I think Per (among others elsewhere) was correct in his/their suspicions that the comments arguments were mostly troll-on-troll (my words not his) that had little to do with the actual fans, and that the back/forth poll lead was the result of the Goblins fandom learning about the poll opening well before the GC fans did, then everyone being allowed to vote once per 24hr period. A guy opened a new account here and copped to cheating? Assuming he's not an agent provocateur and assuming nobody on the other side cheated at all, that's pretty minor considering the sheer numbers of people we're talking about. If I remember right the Sappho thread got locked and another shipping thread got deleted, but that latter one was maybe before I delurked. That's two threads off the rails for shipping arguments in four years, maybe another four threads locked for other reasons? I haven't been keeping track but I think more people have been banned over trying to be cute with unrepentant meme use than for angry or inappropriate posts and the combined number is still very small. I can't even remember the last modsmack. The worst thing I've seen around here lately was a bot trying very hard to sell hats. The bot has probably never read the comic at all and should not be numbered with the GC fans. So yeah, divide the number of known or suspected jerks into the number of forum users and you get a very favorable ratio. I never claimed the fandom was flawless but it's pretty darn good.

Yeah, minus that little poll incident (which turned out A-OK for the horse I was backing, so it's all good in my opinion ) we have a good record, Tom hasn't needed to take on any mods so far because mostly people think before they speak and apologize when they fuck up. That's why this place is in my top ten forums feed. Civil conversation on the internet is a rare and precious thing.

As a bi teenage girl, Kat's issues have been almost like looking in a mirror for me; I'm not saying she is for sure, but Tom has done a good job of handling a lot of the experience, and I know this is only personal preference, and it doesn't affect what other people would think if she did turn out to be gay/bi, but I identify with her so much, and positive, realistic portrayals of orientation issues are so rare, especially with younger characters, so I hope Tom follows through with it. Sorry for bringing the topic back up, but I wanted to share my feelings about this.

Got a little sister back home going through some gender identity issues, she turned sixteen about a week ago. She's even got the same spiky hair and overalls thing going, except she dyed her hair red. It looks pretty wild. Oh yeah, and she's changed her name. ;D

The worst thing I've seen around here lately was a bot trying very hard to sell hats. The bot has probably never read the comic at all and should not be numbered with the GC fans. The moment you said this a bot popped up and posted seven threads about NFL jerseys. This means you might be a robot summoner?? As someone who was active on the MSPA forums before it became a fandom and was there when the question surrounding shipping wasn't "who" but "should it be allowed, I mean they're kids," I am a bit biased in the opinion that giving even an inch with any discussion involving the speculation of the love lives of fictional characters can end in Melodramatic Comic Syndrome.

The moment you said this a bot popped up and posted seven threads about NFL jerseys. This means you might be a robot summoner?? Belated welcome to the forums, Wheat! That bot might indeed have been searching for key words and locked onto my post, but I bet it's the same bot as before. It's just reloaded and come around for another pass. When I was still in single-digit years I liked to argue with my friends about what super hero could beat up what other super hero. We had a few real dust-ups, particularly regarding Superman v. Flash, but we had lots of fun talking about it and it was a way we could make reading the comics into something we could do together. Meanwhile on the other side of the classroom there were other people who were talking with their friends about which pairs of people would make good romantic couples. They included in their discussions not only people in the school but fictional characters, sports and movie stars, historical figures living and dead, myths, animals(?) and cartoon characters. They generated tons of drama and ran in circles for hours if given the chance but afterwards they seemed to have had fun. Some of the pairings they'd talk about were truly bizarre and for a while I was sure they all had a whirling screw loose in their heads. But one day I realized that what I was doing wasn't really different from what they were doing. That was just how they liked to get into discussions with their friends about things they shared. Understanding that freed me to do more important things with my adolescence, like getting my hands on beer getting into girls' pants studying. But my point is that people enjoy the comic in different ways. Some people like to speculate on characters' romantic lives once they start empathizing with them, even if they are underage. I like to analyze plot elements and test my understanding of the comic by trying to predict stuff. Other people prefer to talk about the art style and compare/contrast it. I don't think any of those is better than the other when it comes down to it. And the characters are growing up and it looks like part of that will include learning about romantic entanglements and drama and all that stuff. So I have to say the shipping subject is fair game as long as it stays within the forum rules of play. Sorry for bringing the topic back up, but I wanted to share my feelings about this. It's okay because the forum is for discussing the comic.

I - I don't have any "hopes and expectations for who will end up with who". I may be deficient. Horrible. The next time you'll confess a failure to indulge in "projection" of "hopes and expectations" imaginary characters on yourself. And thus will finally be ousted as non-freudist infidel. ;D Have you guys seen the rest of the internet lately? But "hey, it's still cleaner than some cesspools" does not come across as setting very high standards. We're probably more level-headed than your average internet watering hole, but our record isn't completely spotless either. I'm not sure the term "watering" quite describes the situation, though... But my point is that people enjoy the comic in different ways. Some people like to speculate on characters' romantic lives once they start empathizing with them, even if they are underage. I don't think any of those is better than the other when it comes down to it. (sagely nodding) shippers are widely known to have great understanding of the material they use for their... mmm... pastime, that's why they're so good at the whole "in character" part.

Flash Hah, replace this with Pokemon and you have essentially described my first year of middle school years after I moved to Socal. "Ash wasn't even dead in the first place bro, Pikachu's tear just startled him awake, that's all. They wouldn't let anybody die in a kids show." "You shut your whore mouth! Mewtwo killed him, Pikachu is TOO magical!" "Well, Mewtwo looks like he has dick coming out of his head!" *gasp* "Take that back!" "NO U!" *fisticuffs* As you can tell, I met some lifelong friends that I still kick it with to this day. ;D
