I'm sure that Annie knows that it isn't a coincidence that they shared the same dream. She sounds like she's in denial in the last panel. Maybe the bonus page will have Gamma wearing the headband.

I feel its time for a Harry Potter quote that sums it all up nicely.
"Just because it's in your head doesn't make it any less real."

That reminds me of another one my friend scrawled on his garage after a night of intoxicated carousing. "It does not do to dwell on dreams" -Albus Percival Wolfred Brian Dumbledore

In determining if this chapter was real or not I am not really focused on who perceived what when. There are hints that even in the shared parts not everyone is on the same page, like how Kat is unaware of her headpigeon, and Zimmy's don't-wanna-know-about-your-million-bfs comment suggests that even Zimmy may not be seeing things the same way we the readers are.
Antimony collapsed and they were unable to wake her until Zimmy intervened. The Headband of +5 Straightness is MIA and presumed etherically yoinked. Antimony and Kat acknowledge remembering things from the "dream" that are consistent with what we read. Unless alternative explanations show up in the comic I'm calling the dreamlike images real but metaphorical.

Seriously though, the ceiling is brown on this page, and blue on all the previous pages where it is visible. I only happened to notice because something seemed odd about the first panel. I'm pretty sure that that's just wooden beam thing surrounding the curtain rod; no idea what those things are called, unfortunately. From the perspective it doesn't seem to be the ceiling. Naw, you can see the top of the curtain in dream strips, and the ceiling is blue. Plus, the brown patch in today's strip is angled on the left edge, indicating it is continuous with the ceiling/wall seam.

Hey everyone, is it significant that the ceiling color has changed?! (Dramatic reaction just for fun) Seriously though, the ceiling is brown on this page, and blue on all the previous pages where it is visible. I only happened to notice because something seemed odd about the first panel. I believe the only previous frame in this chapter where we can see the ceiling of the hospital room is the one where said ceiling has a huge hole in it for the bone lasers to go through. I don't think we can trust that frame to be an accurate representation of physical reality.

Next page, Gamma prancing around in the headband. If this doesn't actually happen, someone who can draw MUST make a fannart of it.

Plus, the brown patch in today's strip is angled on the left edge, indicating it is continuous with the ceiling/wall seam. It's still a horizontal beam, not colour of the ceiling itself. And its omission is unlikely to be important, an art error at best. Next page, Gamma prancing around in the headband. I'd prefer to see it on Zimmy.

i think that Zimmy line was a over exaggeration from seeing 2 perceived ones, Jack and the forest guy and maybe even Jones depending on if Zimmy knows more then what we know about her and her implied many identities But we the readers see first one Jack then a pair of Jacks menacing a trapped Zimmy. Zimmy's reaction is "I don't want to know about..." instead of "Gamma help me I'm being assaulted" or something like that. That makes me think these experiences are subjective even with Zimmy, though the events involved apparently have verifiable objective consequences. It's nearly a paradox but not quite. Witness statements often don't match up in reality either.

I just hope we get told what was that with the bone lasers and stuff. That's all I'm asking. Really. Uh, in two previous chapters?.. And the last piece falls into place and suddenly the whole thing makes sense. I was confused for awhile there. ...come on, folk, this isn't exactly rocket surgery. Ooh, does this count as calling it? ;D Yes, that's gunnercookie-worthy. Seriously though, the ceiling is brown on this page, and blue on all the previous pages The whole room was lit with pale light. Probably because Kat ended up face down into light blue sheets. I'm glad that the Court folk aren't into dead light lamps, this would make them a little creepy. Do none of you people read Sandman? I see what Gunnerkrigg has to do with alchemy, but how it's related to clockwork girls? Especially now that it's confirmed that Jones isn't one of these. I'd prefer to see it on Zimmy. Yes, she got great long hair.

If you look real hard in 1053 you can see Annie's hand removing the HoS in panel 2, or at least I think you can, just lean right up to your monitor and have a geez.
Forgive me if this has already been stated

Are you thinking of the same Sandman as the rest of us? I don't remember there being clockwork girls in Gaiman's Sandman, I think they are referencing how in Sandman some Dreams can also be powerful enough to be both not real and real at the same time.

A good idea, but unfortunately not the case. I did look harder, and what you think is the headband is in fact Annie's middle finger. It just deceptively goes across Kat's temple like the headband did.

Just want to say that Annie's expressions in this page are masterful. She feels alive. There's something about the way she's looked in the past couple of pages... she looks adorable. <3 The last panel makes me feel a little sad though. D: She wants to believe in her father and reassure herself, but it's just the mask coming back up again. Someone up-thread said her expressions in the third to last and the very last panel looked like the mask from the dream-Zimmy sequences of this chapter and I definitely agree with that.

I really wonder why Jones gave her the mask. Despite being an emotionless taskmaster, Jones seems to genuinely want Antimony to develop as a human being. I feel like even if Jones is using her, she (it?) isn't manipulating her, just using her (to a degree. One could argue that being the medium is essentially her life's duty.). Giving her a mask of false reassurance and emotional distance doesn't seem to be related to those pursuits.

It especially seems contradictory if we compare to this page, where she's pretty much trying to break Annie's mask on the very same topic that this chapter was dealing with. ...though, she did give Annie the mask in a different context. Perhaps Jones has a rather pragmatic approach to 'wearing a mask' - in some situations it's useful, in others it's not. We should also have in mind that Jones in this scene most likely just represents Annie's view of Jones and not necessarily reflects the truth.

I don't think we can trust that frame to be an accurate representation of physical reality. The ceiling is visible on several of the pages, but page 1052 is a particularly good example. Now that we know in retrospect that this is a dream sequence (I came back to update the thread,) the dream sequence's ceilings all seem to be blue, while the waking ceiling, well shown on page 1055 for example, are clearly brown. Just an interesting comparison. Naw, you can see the top of the curtain in dream strips, and the ceiling is blue. Plus, the brown patch in today's strip is angled on the left edge, indicating it is continuous with the ceiling/wall seam. It's still a horizontal beam, not colour of the ceiling itself. And its omission is unlikely to be important, an art error at best. While it's true that Tom has made and caught one or two errors over the 1000+ pages so far of this story, he is extremely detail-oriented. I think it's much more likely that he made the change in color as a subtle background hint to indicate the change in reality (dream vs. waking worlds) or something along those lines. You're right though that it's unlikely to be important beyond that fact.
