The chapter is ending next week. And we will have never been told what that pigeon means. Maybe next week, the pigeon will wake up in her nest, say "It was all just a dream", and shrug at the audience with a sad trombone playing in the background. I doubt it, but... I like it! ;D That would make for a great post-chapter bonus page!

I just noticed that two panels ago Jack first shows up looking like a nobody (which probably makes him her memory) but then another Jack shows up looking normal and so does Annie. Zimmy says that everyone looks the same to her, which means that from her perspective everyone looks like a nobody (ha!). So...either perspectives are being mixed (maybe their identities intyo Zimmy?) or Zimmy sees the etherically-capable as they normally are.

All it lacks is the two Jacks standing in the background and eating popcorn.

I have a feeling that Annie has a lot of things that she prefers to be kept secret from others. Once Zimmy uncovered most of them, Annie's inner-psyche started to freak and thus reacted towards the outwards interference. I can only imagine that once she wakes again, she will wonder why everyone is worried and why she's in a hospital room. Also, I think that bird is Kat's pigeon that she saved. Unless I'm mistaken, we have yet to discover what landed her there in that bed in the first place. It will be interesting to see what Zimmy chooses to keep a secret. My guess is she will respect Antimony's privacy and withhold everything. Still, Kat had to have heard her verbal exasperation over Annie's "million boyfriends". I bet that is screwing with her head right now. Welcome to the forum, BTW. It's my impression that Zimmy was not in her body at that point and only said those words in the etherium, to which Kat is deaf and blind.

Ignore me if this has been said, I've been away. Could the bones represent Annie turning against her fire elemental half? She thinks that her fire half is the reason her dad can't bear to be near her so she's trying to reject it. The reason Zimmy felt like it was her dad's fault was because he was the reason, but not the source.
Zimmy appears to have gotten her fire element half going again though. God I love her but then I've got too many favourite characters in GKC.

On further reflection: If that is Zimmy's physical body doing the flying faceplant into furniture as it appears to be, then this comic may demonstrate a fail for her "it's only as real as you let it be" philosophy.

Probably from comparing the lengths of the previous chapters to this one. It seems unlikely that there'd be more than three more pages to this chapter. There are a lot of chapters around that length, but there are also some significantly longer, like "Faraway Morning" with 47 pages. So I'm not sure how well the length of this chapter can be estimated by that.

For a moment I thought the "end chapter" symbol was in the corner and flipped out.

She might have accidentally closed herself off ethereally (trying to reach Anthony in the sky?), and now has to be led back to herself. Anthony in the Sky with Diamonds ;D Anthony-sergic acid dithalamide? Sounds like some craaazy stuff. Dunno if the Beatles would even touch that Nope, long hair, but no scar. ...unless it ran away ...and the Court now have a vampiric facescar flying around. Oh yeah, I already managed to forget about that ;D The hell is up with that thing, it didn't return when the bonespikes were destroyed at least. Maybe it's still wandering the dark alleys of Zimmingham, in search of... cheeks. I am imagining that it now has Zimmy's voice and attitude. "Oi! You! Yeah, you! Why dontcha pick me up? You'd look right roguish with me on yer face. Ladies love a good scar."

I don't see a need to explain the pigeon, as it works immensely well on a symbolic level for kat. I mean, there may be a reason, but I'd be happy just to accept it as the way Zimmy sees kat in the ether- the pigeon being Kats daemon, LAUGHING ON LINE.

Did anyone notice the pigeon is gone from Kat's head now or is that just me?

Sleepwalking Annie is cute. But dangerous. It's my impression that Zimmy was not in her body at that point and only said those words in the etherium, to which Kat is deaf and blind. But it's never clean-cut with Zimmy. So may well be... This smoothly flows into the question of how much Kat got at all after Zimmy announced she's going to do something and before she was hurled into that chair. Of course, the next page will clear it... unless Tom feels especially cruel or something. Could the bones represent Annie turning against her fire elemental half? She thinks that her fire half is the reason her dad can't bear to be near her so she's trying to reject it. The reason Zimmy felt like it was her dad's fault was because he was the reason, but not the source. Annie is uninterested in book sciences, not stupid. She would be able to see the obvious - if she thought about it at all. On further reflection: If that is Zimmy's physical body doing the flying faceplant into furniture as it appears to be, then this comic may demonstrate a fail for her "it's only as real as you let it be" philosophy. Long overdue.

Unhinged insanity status: _ Not told _ Told _ Told man jenkins _ A told wind blows _ Knights of the told republic X No country for told menFor whom the bell tolds. The problem I lampshaded on his formspring earlier is not so much the fact the pidgeon suddenly appeared, but the fact that an animal commonly referred to as a 'flying rat' has appeared in the middle of a clean medical facility. Unless of course they make exceptions for brain pigeons.

I'm not sure if anybody has brought this up yet, but - could the chapter title mean "Divine" in the sense of "divination" - with the notion that Zimmy's activities in this chapter were a form of divination?

Yep, I've brought it up a couple of times now, and another guy has mentioned it, too. Somehow most people still don't seem to have taken notice, even though it would be a bit late for anything divine to appear.

By the way, anyone else starting to notice a pattern in the Zimmy/Annie interactions? Probably just my imagination. Yes I know they're reversed in Spring Healed 2 and Zimmy started it in Power Station.

I also love the number of fan theories going around right now. I kinda hope some of them turn out to be what actually happens, but knowing Tom's track record, all of us may be wrong. Each of us is probably wrong, and it's quite plausible that all of us are wrong. Another webcomic artist's comment: (Yes, the image is also a link to the source.)

God I love her but then I've got too many favourite characters in GKC. Somebody speculated that the bone-prison represented Annie's rigid emotional control: she is unintentionally suffocating her inner fire elemental, and she collapsed into a coma as a consequence of trying to re-assert her "Court Annie" level of control after returning from the forest. That seems similar to your theory, but not exactly the same.

In every other chapter, it has always become clear what the title and title image mean. But in this chapter, I have my doubts that it will ever be obviously clear. Time will tell of course.

Maybe in Birmingham you can wander through random people's minds without consequences (though Zimmy did come to the attention of the Court, eventually) but Zimmy might have to learn a more gentle approach here. Considering Antimony's fire Zimmy's lucky she only ate a chair. Though it might make for a more exciting comic if Zimmy won't/can't learn. [Sidenote: This post failed to post three times. Because it is #666?]

wow, I can't believe Ann found that insult to her dad offensive, no wonder Kat wasn't more vocal about her feelings towards Tony Annie can put up with a lot more from Kat than anyone else, especially clearly motivated by caring about her. And she's sort of sleeping now. By the way, anyone else starting to notice a pattern in the Zimmy/Annie interactions? (sighing) Such... such good friends... Well, maybe not quite, but they seem to be fine with that part. Probably just my imagination. At least here we know who's who. Speaking of which, i wonder how much of this Annie told Kat. I don't think so. That philosophy is how zimmy copes with her own powers. It doesn't apply to Annie's. Yes, but now her nightmares and "that magic crap they guys do" began to interact. In every other chapter, it has always become clear what the title and title image mean. But in this chapter, I have my doubts that it will ever be obviously clear. I'm partial to "...to forgive is divine" variant. Though if Jones walks in or Annie's phoenix form will leave a lasting impression on Zimmy it won't be all that bad either, to say the least.

wow, I can't believe Ann found that insult to her dad offensive... I think this is a case of projection. Somewhere inside Annie also thinks her dad is being a huge jerk, but she doesn't want to recognize that part of her own emotions. That's probably one of the central themes (if not the central theme) of this chapter. Well, that's my interpretation so far. I could be wrong. EDIT: Annie not wanting to recognize those emotions would also go well along with this.

It's quite a leap from the last-panel creepiness of 1047 to the last-panel hilarity of 1049.
