@ aegis: I don't really think that would fit in the comic, but thanks for introducing me to it. I just listened to all nine movements. It's awesome.

Axial's self-titled album strikes me as fitting the proper mood. However, I don't speak Portuguese, so I don't know how well any of the lyrics fit.

Maybe it's just me, but whenever I read GKC, when it's tone is more... hm... calm, nostalgic, melancholic, music of Yasunori Mitsuda plays in my mind. To those who don't know who is this guy - he's a japanese composer, mainly videogame one. Worked with Squaresoft on few Final Fantasy games, Xenogears and on - IMO - his magnum opus wich was Chrono Cross. Here are few examples, wich I think would be fitting to a recent strip about Annie running away into the forest : www.youtube.com/watch?v=kscoWu9JTSE - Nocturne or www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROKcr2OTgws - Dream of the Shore Near Another World

nine inch nails "right where it belongs" *ahem*
See the animal in his cage that you built Are you sure what side (the glass) you're on? Better not look him too closely in the eye Are you sure what side of the glass you are on? See the safety of the life you have built Everything where it belongs Feel the hollowness inside of your heart And it's all... Right where it belongs
What if everything around you Isn't quite as it seems? What if all the world you think you know Is an elaborate dream? And if you look at your reflection Is it all you want it to be? What if you could look right through the cracks? Would you find yourself... Find yourself afraid to see?
What if all the world's inside of your head Just creations of your own? Your devils and your gods All the living and the dead And you're really all alone? You can live in this illusion You can choose to believe Keep on looking but you can't find the woods While you're hiding in the trees
What if everything around you Isn't quite as it seems? What if all the world you used to know Is an elaborate dream? And if you look at your reflection Is it all you want to be? What if you could look right through the cracks Would you find yourself... Find yourself afraid to see?

Sorry about the long quote, but I thought it better to illustrate why I think about it when I read GC. And I doubt everyone knows this song or Nine Inch Nails for any other song besides "Closer."

+1.

In light of the revelation about Annie's true nature, it seems that every song that ever mentioned fire is now relevant. I'm partial to this one and this one.

Regarding Nine Inch Nails, and I remember thinking this even back when she was getting crazy with the fire powers back in residential, I think 'Burn', from the Natural Born Killers soundtrack is fairly appropriate.

Maire Brennan's music (mystical...new age celtic style) reminds me of the magical/Ether and mysterious aspects www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVcFZLG1wuEand speaking of Nine Inch Nails, I think their instrumentals (like in the Ghosts album) remind me of the depth, industrialization and deceptions of the court... www.youtube.com/watch?v=tG4I8FovIAU I especially love this song because of how the first half is played by 'normal' sounding instruments, but in the second half those same sounds are totally deconstructed...sounds so eerie, like things falling apart.

A few from Mew, a band that in general reminds me a lot of Gunnerkrigg - both have the same kind of otherworldy vibe to them. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Giwdyk8sqA8 - 'Her Voice is Beyond her Years.' This one reminds me a lot of Annie, and how she often acts a lot older than she actually is. www.youtube.com/watch?v=3prQwTsCWd4&feature=related - 'Circuitry of the Wolf' This is for the two wolves of the story, Renard and Ysengrin. (I know it ends a bit abruptly, bit it was the best i could find on Youtube.) www.youtube.com/watch?v=VgQ5NtG4RzM - 'Tricks of the Trade' It has the perfect trickster...ish(?) vibe for Coyote, and the text reminds me of the darker, more mad Coyote from the timestop. www.youtube.com/watch?v=uv3YkeYQ-MI - 'Sometimes Life isn't Easy' My absolute favorite song of Mew, and it reminds me of Gunnerkrigg Court in its entirety. To me it really captures the epic, etheric, otherworldy feel of the world of Gunnerkrigg. Also, sometimes life isn't excactly easy for Annie either, so it fits that way too. My 2 cents.

Korpiklaani has a song named "Death" on their latest album Ukon Wacka. Well, actually, the name of the song is the Finnish word for death, Surma.

Er. I thought I'd post this here since there's nothing that links the fact that the song title is a reference back to Gunnerkrigg Court (the tags and description are eh). Edit: O hey look, I screwed up a single sentence post. Go me. Link fixed.

I thought about how GKC doesn't have any defined antagonist yet, then my buddy (a friend of the composer) sent me this: virt.bandcamp.com/track/zetagama... not that I want Zimmy and Gamma to end up as video-game-style final bosses... This also seemed to be the best thread in which to post this little coincidence.

Man, we have some really eclectic tastes in music here. I'm still going with Bon Jovi's Runaway for Annie, even if the genre doesn't really fit the character.

Ah, you got past 8tracks' rule that you can only have one or two songs by each artist by using the Poozies' version of "Maid of Llanwellyn" rather than Kate Rusby's solo version. Nice.

Anyway, this page references The Prodigy, but by album rather than any specific song. (If I had to pick a song, it would be "Voodoo People", one of my favorites from Jilted.) This page quotes from Kate Rusby's "Playing of Ball". I don't remember the chapter or page, but Kat has a Sparklehorse poster on her wall.
