I am so confused.
Since all theorizing will inevitably be pointless....*sits back and wait for explanation*

All right. I know nothing. I'm not thinking the mask is literal though. Maybe is she is just pretending having a blast at the forest but she wasn't really that happy all the way.

I agree. I'm confused. Just waiting to see what happens.
I was thinking the images of Annie acting weird could be a reflection of Kat's insecurities. But the fact that she can not see them seems to refute that theory. Unless Zimmy can see into Kat's subconscious.

It seems Jones handed her the mask, maybe having something to do with what Jones is to her? I also notice the forest people behind her change their expressions when Jones shows up... oh, the wondering.

It seems like a visual representation of an internal conflict. Agreed. Annie was there for one reason, Jones had other ideas. And it looks like that caused some sort of problems with the natives.

What the hell? Theres some wierd doppleganger stuff going on with Jones and that mask.
Remember the fact that Coyote said that Jones steals names? Maybe she stole Annies somehow (or by accident)?

All i know is that the Mystery is NOT solved. I also see that in almost thirty chapters tom is still able to start not just one ship but two.

welp. One thing we do know now via panel 2 is that Zimmy can not only see the head pigeon, but can read/hear Kat's thoughts (and she is not aware of this).

It seems like a visual representation of an internal conflict. Annie wanting to lose herself in the forest, and Jones forcing her to face her issues, thus making the mask representative of an inner conflict? Or perhaps the forest people wanting to more literally take Annie in, and Jones warning her to keep some distance, thus making the mask more of a facade or a barrier? EDIT: welp. One think we do know now via panel 2 is that Zimmy can not only see the head pigeon, but can read/hear Kat's thoughts (and she is not aware of this). It seems rather that the pigeon speaks her thoughts, but is somehow removed in perspective from Kat. EDIT 2: I mean, it questions what happened between Annie and Kamlen, using "me" to indicate Kat, which Zimmy then questions, and it exclaims "Can she read Annie's mind?"

Well, the mask is split down the middle, so my theory is that it speaks of her future role as court medium. After all, she has to understand both sides, and she can't get too comfortable with either. Jones is a constant reminder of that fact. And she is giving it to her. sotha: Or that.

I'm not quite sure why I went into this thinking monday's update would clarify things, but I sure do feel silly now for thinking such a thing. At least we know now that whatever is going on it probably doesn't involve anything that really happened between Annie and Kamlen.

My initial reaction was that there's an important distinction whether Jones is handing her a mask off of her own face, or just some mask. The handmovements are vague enough for it not to be clear, but it looks like Jones might be just handing her some mask, rather than pulling it off her own face.
Visually, at first the elf is courting Annie, until Jones seems to pull her towards herself, at which point the elves are disappointed and leave. Maybe Annie was entertaining an idea of staying in the forest permanently? And Jones actually popped in to check on her and reminded her of her life back at the court.
The mask has a relaxed, calm look on but is completely blank and divided in the middle. Maybe a visual representation of the medium's role, Annie must hide her true face behind a blank facade to maintain the neutrality required for a medium. Jones, being her mediuming mentor, would be just the person to remind her of that.
Also, Kat doesn't catch Zimmy reading her thoughts. And she came to the Kamlen conclusion too.

So, all this time the shippers were wrong and it's actually Jones that Annie likes?

I hope Tom will let us know what this is all about earlier than, say, 2014 The speculation is bound to be hilarious, anyway. Zimmy seems to think it is Annie's literal thoughts that she's looking at (hence the "green boyfriend" comment) and in theory Zimmy should know, except that Zimmy tends to give me the impression that she doesn't know as much as she thinks she does. I don't think this is literal. I suspect there WAS something with Kamlen, or at least Annie would have subconsciously liked there to be. Annie was curiously coy in bringing him up but not actually talking about him. I suspect Jones handing Annie a sleeping mask which causes the forest/ether to turn away from Annie is a representation of what has happened here. Annie is asleep and cut off from the ether because of something Wandering Eye did. But why? (And why is Jones naked? Because Tom is messing with us)

Well i'm glad that cleared everything up.
I can't remember a new chapter being this rife with symbolism/people having no idea whats going on since i started reading (back at the start of fire spike).
Also dante: i chuckled quietly.

This whole situation must really be getting to Kat. First, she is questioning her sexual identity and how it relates to her friends. Her best friend collapsed and is currently passed out, as a far as we are aware, and now she thinks Annie maybe hiding things from her.
I think that Kat is going to be the one who needs help after all this.

delurking... Jones somehowe intervening to stop the forest "binding" Annie? The binding on her wrist disappears after Jones gives her the mask.

delurking... Jones somehowe intervening to stop the forest "binding" Annie? The binding on her wrist disappears after Jones gives her the mask. And intervened by giving her a symbol - the split mask, aka Antimony's role as the court's medium. So perhaps there was some incident where the forest tried to talk her into staying permanently and Jones intervened to stop it? By talking her into Court-favoring neutrality - Antimony puts the mask on actively, whereas the green guy seems to be charming her.

I love how Jones just appears out of nowhere, naked, and hands Annie a mask. It makes me think that she was having a shower, realized she was needed and immediately sprinted the whole way there without getting dressed first. Also Zimmy's line about Annie possibly having a thing for Jones made me an Annie/Jones shipper. Sorry guys I let you down
