My brain made the assumption that she'd caught Surma's illness before I remembered that Surma's illness was having a baby. I got steadily more distressed from there. Obviously Tom's not going to do something that awful and dark but the thought was just... guh.
In other news Kat looks mad. I wonder why?

I'm assuming that the halo of hue rotation is supposed to indicate that Annie is having a little unscheduled interminable out-of-body experience. Further, I'm guessing that the red glow is Annie's possibly slightly unhinged unanchored aetheric portion trying to grab onto the biggest aerial it can find. The question is, then, is this related to Jeanne, to learning to detach herself in the last chapter, or to something completely different? She is wearing Annie's clothes along with that hairband she wore before (and ditched when she started acting like 'herself' again in that chaper). Yeah, I'm not sure about that top. Maybe she brought it to the hospital for Annie to change into when she checked out, and then had to stay there for more than two days so just decided Annie wouldn't mind? Seems a little odd. (Maybe this post should be in Wild Speculation! I'm new at this. )

Is it just me, or does Kat look slightly angry, in addition to being very very tired? I mean, isn't this the third time that Antimony has gotten into serious trouble (the other two being falling off the bridge, and when she ran off into the forest). In fact, Kat said, "You remember that time I told you I'd never lost anyone I cared for? Well I know what that feels like now and I never want to feel like that again." Then, after Antimony got back from the woods, Kat said, "You kinda make it hard to be your friend." And now this is the third time she's putting Kat through the emotional wringer.

Is it just me, or does Zimmy remind anyone else of Dream of the Endless from the comic Sandman in that last panel? Now that you mention it...

That room looks like the one Surma died in I know I know, all hospital rooms look the same. Still an effective callback. This was my EXACT initial reaction upon seeing this page. I actually thought we'd flashed back to Surma again before the rest of the scene registered in my head. Effective callback indeed. Is it just me, or does Kat look slightly angry, in addition to being very very tired? Hrm, interesting analysis. Actually somewhat human and realistic, really. Annie does tend to immerse everyone around her in drama, that's for sure. I could see people getting tired of it. Even people who care about her.

Wait... wait... wait... what?
Right, there's a hell of a lot going on here so I'm going to focus my speculation on Kat. She looks angry and she's obviously been there a while. Reasons she could be angry are:
1. Annie is sick/dying and her father is nowhere to be seen. Still.
2. Kat is generally frustrated that science is doing very little and she'd like to go hit some people with spanners until stuff gets sorted.
3. Kat is not Kat, she's Zimmy.
4. Kat is not Kat, she's Annie.
5. Kat is not Kat, she's Jones. (Was going to say Boxbot, went with Jones)
Also, Zimmy is chilling in that last panel. Scary, truly scary.

I see three things that interest me: Panel 1: Annie with no face/faded hair Panel 5: Worried Kat looking up (at monitor?) Panel 6: Angry Kat looking at Annie, not holding her hand. I think spirit Annie is out having adventures after ditching Kat cause Kat looks REALLY pissed when looking at Annie. Definitely not the usual look of friend-in-hospital concern. However, Renard seems unconcerned/asleep, which he would be cause he can go with Annie on her shenanigans. Theory: This be going on and has been for some time: www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=599Did the fairies pull something else loose when this ( www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=986) happened and Annie got lost and can't find her body. Got lost in Zim-city perhaps? Last Panel: Dark Zimmy Rises! (not the hero Annie needs, but the one she deserves...)

My brain made the assumption that she'd caught Surma's illness before I remembered that Surma's illness was having a baby. Yeah, I was going to riff on this - and did, but deleted it - until I remembered that the girls are a few years younger than I seem to think they are.

Am I the only one who thinks that this is because Annie's father did something. Maybe he's trying to take her soul and get Surma back or something. That was my first thought anyway.

Nope, you aren't the only one. I posted a theory on the Wild Speculation thread (before noticing your post), although I think my interpretation of Anthony is slightly less sinister than yours. Kat seems to be wearing Annie's pants from Give and Take, too, but that could be any pair of blue jeans. Renard looks oddly relaxed; I'm guessing he knows something Kat, Robot, and Shadow don't.

Is Annie lost up in Zimmy's mind? Could be Zimmy somehow is afraid of finding Annie because something happened. Is Jeannie behind this?

In my opinion, Kat looks less angry and more frustrated. I get the sense that she has been trying to think of ways to help Annie (probably for a couple of days considering how sleep deprived she looks) and has come up with nothing.
This is something I have been noticing recently about the relationship between Annie and Kat. Annie, to a certain extent, has always been there for Kat, even if the situation is beyond Annie's expertise, such as with the robots or with Kat's week-long boyfriend. Kat wants to do the same for Annie, but cannot always do so because she lacks the etheric abilities needed to deal with or even interact with the more supernatural elements, such as Zimmy. Annie is also much more independent, tending to act with little or no input from others, including Kat.
I will be interested to see if the next page cuts away to the events leading to this, or if we get a conversation between Kat and Zimmy. I would prefer the latter, as I wonder how Kat would react to Zimmy, who obviously has something to do with this, and the former is a bit too cliché for my liking.
Also, what does 'divine' and a pigeon have to do with this?

1st panel: What's wrong with Annie? 2nd panel: Oh that's sweet. 3rd panel: Hmm? 4th panel: I sputtered "What?" repeatedly.
My eyes watered a bit. If I was alone I would have cried a bit. Especially since today I saw a film end after the death of a boy's grandmother, and the credits play cheery piano music.
Annie might be losing her fire to Zimmy through the cut, and this must be after some mishap that Kat knows about.

Zimmy had better be Annie's time-traveling daughter. That is the only explanation I will accept for this. River?!

Ok, I only like to post when I don't know what's going on. Speculation:
1)Everyone is assuming Reynard's just asleep/relaxed/calm about Annie's situation. Maybe he's got the same problem Annie has? 2)Uhhh, Kat looks a bit Jack with Spiders. Bit confused no one has mentioned it. Might tie in with hairband/clothes, but I've not paid that much attention. Odd she hasn't shown whiteleg signs before. 3) Assuming it's Annie, the lack of scar would indicate this is the real world. Except we've just seen Zimmy throwing the scar away.... so maybe this isn't "real". 4) Chronology between this comic and the previous one is not clear. My instinct is that Zimmy is coming to the rescue in this one though. (i.e. previous comic is before this one, and Zimmy has turned up because the scar thing has revealed Annie is in trouble and Gamma wants to help). 5) What the hell is going on?

Something is wrong...
This is likely to be a real scene rather than a trip through Zimmy's psycho-deck: Zimmy doesn't know about 3D-shadow.
Someone else has mentioned the fairy hair-yank maneuvre already. It could be that Antimony Carver has become unstuck in time/glued to Zimmy (and snoozing Rey* is desparately searching for her in the spirit world)
Kat is... tired/cross. Two possibilities: cross with Ann for reasons yet to be revealed. Cross at herself for being too self-conscious to offer a simple comforting touch** (maybe Ann got a bit too familiar and Kat over-reacted, thereby triggering the event leading to this?).
So it's probably something else entirely.
*Do we have theories on why Rey attempted to possess/kill Annie that one time? It was *so* out of character from the start.
** cf Shadow and Robot. Although wasn't shadow hinted to be a girl when he/she started speaking?

1) Is the "she" that Zimmy's supposed to help Kat or Annie?
2) Do all Zimmy stories start in the middle?

LAUGHING ON LINE, its horrible but i just can't stop laughing, tom hit us with such a hard left hook. Also kat looks worse than annie does, plus the "hair dec of not lesbian" is back I wondered what happened and how Zimmy is involved. Yay ship moments ahead, assuming no one dies. How morbid is that? Aye. Oh, wait, it wasn't rhetorical? As morbid as the song "...I sit in // this big iron tube // and hammer the fuse in torpedo". Wait, does that mean... Zimmy is Annie's daughter? Zimmy had better be Annie's time-traveling daughter. Time-traveling cyborg clone of Annie's daughter. And she looks so angry. Zimmy, what have you done?! D: Or did Annie do something stupid? Someone definitely did. Do you think Tom actually times these cliff-hanger pages to arrive just before the weekend? Tom? Of course. That's the real reason behind those bonus pages. Three pages per week, so insertion of [0..2] extra pages can adjust the next chapter as needed. This kind of indicates to me that the scene we are looking at is not as it seems... That, too. Annie? She'd either try to fly over it or blast anything trying to catch her. Either way, Zimmy wouldn't have much doubts where to apply, and when. Now it looks like Annie visited out-of-body with distressed look, waved a hand, Zimmy mildly freaked out, and that's about it. She understandably doesn't like to get entangled into weird stuff more than she already is, so she's also upset and walks like to her own execution. Am I the only one who thinks that this is because Annie's father did something. Maybe he's trying to take her soul and get Surma back or something. Would be surprising - currently he's the default convenient blame-hanger. wasn't shadow hinted to be a girl when he/she started speaking? Talked in Kat's voice for a while. Fairies used " he". They are likely to know the difference. Anyway, Shadow is consistently "he" after that.

*Do we have theories on why Rey attempted to possess/kill Annie that one time? It was *so* out of character from the start. He didn't. Go back and look, he faked a move towards her so the big dude would tackle her. When they were both occupied, he moved into the doll which was his plan the whole time. He knew they didn't know he could do that, so it would have been the perfect escape if he hadn't gotten stuck. You can tell he's faking it because he hangs there in front of her for 3 whole panels, giving her rescuer time to cross the gymnasium. If he had meant it, he would have been successful well before anyone could stop him. I like Kat's "I'm totally not a lesbian" headband.
