Indeed! I especially like her arm- and wristbands! And, I can't have been the only person who though of this when reading Tony's comment in the penultimate panel:

Well, to those holding out for a cold, robotic younger Tony... tough luck. Gotta love plot developments, eh? Also, ha ha, new catchphrase. Although now I just can't stop seeing Anthony as the Earl of Lemongrab from Adventure Time. Ohgod now I'm hearing all his lines as a horrifying mix of Benedict Cumberbatch and Lemongrab why would you do this to me.Related: urge to shop every one of his speech bubbles into variations on A THOUSAND YEAAAAARS!! DUNGEON! growing stronger by the minute. Had to be done.

I very much like this comic and the writing has been excellent. But something about the last two pages stuck in my teeth like like a popcorn kernel. Kat and Annie are best friends. Surma and Anja are best friends. Donald and Anthony are friends. Coincidence threshold exceeded: suspension of disbelief overloaded. That's unbelievable? I have two aunts and an uncle that I know of whose respective spouses were from their own circle of childhood friends. Hell, one of the branches of my family tree features two siblings from one family who married two siblings from another, making all of them their own brother/sister-in-law (or something). It happens.

Lovely. ^_^ Also, fifth panel: ahahahaha, Donnie reads some of those comics about the people made of bubblegum (warning: nightmare-fetishism gallery behind the link). ;D But that gives us all the more time to obsess and construct elaborate theories. We know how the story ends -- "Tony" ends up with Surma. But how will he get there? Both are hit by what they are unprepared to deal with like by a freight train? Now that you mention it, Aly looked a LOT like Anthony. Why, thank you. Now my imagination is stuck on rendering a hypothetical start of this crush. Where Tony lifts Brinnie by the waist without a warning and all-deadpan explains that he wanted to know whether Valkyries have normal weight or levitate. I dunno, Annie was completely oblivious to Parley and Smits need for privacy, but [...] I think Antimony was completely aware that Parley and Smitty were having "a moment" in that comic and she shut them down on purpose. Check out Antimony's facial expression in panels 1-2. I suspect the omission was completely intentional too. After all, these two with their tiptoeing strange dances thoroughly exasperated her by this time. Annie suddenly realized she doesn't know physics enough to set up a working flame-based jet amplifier, and screaming "you don't say!" at less than glass-pulverizing volume would be not even half enough, so she wrapped around to subtlety and... well... this. Anthony showing emotion? WHAT IS THIS MADNESS!? Showing emotions during a professed failure to understand emotions as such? Hmmm... Trekker Madness!

And, huh, just noticed. Looks like that trio has a limited range when it comes to color choices in clothes.
In the last panel of previous page Tony, Donny, and Brinnie are wearing shades of blue, red, and green, respectively. In this page they're wearing different shades of the same colors, except Donny's wearing the green and Brinnie's wearing the red.

Brinnie thought that Tony might prefer to hang out with someone who wears a red shirt. Much like fairies, valkyries have rather odd courtship rituals.

I may just have too much Sherlock on the brain after having obsessively re-watched the series for the second time this week (still trying to figure out the trick in the last episode, so many hidden clues) but can someone please tell me I'm not crazy for looking at this page and mentally replacing Tony and Donny's names with Sherlock and John. I mean holy crap, just look at Tony. He's pulling a perfect Sherlock impression in every. single. panel. This puts an amazing new spin on his character, you guys. He didn't abandon Annie to go dick around for two years, he's hunting down Gunnerkrigg Moriarty and solving impossible murders. It all makes sense now. I joined just to respond to this, because you are brilliant. So no, not crazy at all. The comparison to his personality and how he seems uncaring on the outside and whatnot also seems spot on. I mean, for now. Who knows what the actual comic will bring.

I notice that neither Tony's nor Donny's names are capitalised in the last panel. I wonder if this is significant.

The font doesn't contrast upper and lower case, as far as I am aware.

The font doesn't contrast upper and lower case, as far as I am aware. Looking back over a few panels, I'm in agreement. It's neither lower-case nor upper-case. Looks like a unicase script. Next time I re-read the archives I may look to see if that is consistent.

The font is Ale and Wenches. Except for the letter i, there's no difference between upper and lowercase.

EDIT: Also, the first panel kind of crushes "OOOOH MAYBE THEY'RE OLDER NOW" line of thought for this flashback, since neither of them look older than Antimony or Kat there. Except, they're not wearing their uniforms. I'm trying to remember...during the scene where Anja was worried about showing her powers to Donald, and Eglamore had fought the boy making fun of them...were they wearing their uniforms? Did they look older than Donald and Anthony look now? I'll have to search the archives.

Okay, seeing the difference between Anthony's public and private faces reminded me a great deal of how the other students were responding to Annie in the "Residential" chapter. We had grown used to seeing her as a little more open and relaxed, because we'd mostly seen her interacting with Kat, Rey, even Coyote. But we'd seen less of her everyday public face with her peers. In this comic, we see Anthony with his public face off, talking to Donny as easily as Annie talks to Kat. The transformation between panel 2 and 3 is striking. It makes me wonder about Annie. For much more of the comic than we realized, Annie may have been projecting Anthony-face to the world at large. I love how much information / character insight Tom can fit into one page. This page helps humanize Anthony; shows strong similarity between father and daughter; and gives me new ideas about the main character. Oh, yes. And the text "I knew he was torn up about it", juxtaposed with that face, made me almost fall out of my chair laughing.

This flashback could be taking place during a weekend.

We now know that the only suitable voice for anthony in GKCFVP is a remarkably good Benedict Cumberbatch impression. (or Benedict Cumberbatch if we can get him)

For much more of the comic than we realized, Annie may have been projecting Anthony-face to the world at large. I think you may indeed be right.
