What I want to know is, how the crap did Surma end up hooking up with that nogoodnik in the first place.

Okay, NOW I'm excited. I don't think I've been this pumped up about GC since the end of Chapter 30. I can't wait to see what comes next.

My palms feel tingly, reading this. That's gotta sting a bit.
Also, looks like Annie's wearing one of those "ponytailwayatthebottom" things. May not be. And not really relevant for me to point out but there you go.

On the 7th panel Annie's hands look big.

"I'm on your side, Annie, but you have to give me something to work with. Eglamore is out there getting madder and madder, and I don't know how long I can keep him from doing something he'll regret later. If you just tell the truth I'm sure the DA will be lenient with you."

Can't you get him a pair of wireless frames or something? Sheesh. B| On the 7th panel Annie's hands look big. Foreshortening, they're in the foreground.

The beta-reader in me spots the change of tense between the first two panels, and wonders whether that's an error or something more complicated... Also, "somethjing". I propose Donald is going to relate something about Anthony that sheds light on his character in an ambiguous manner.

I think we're about to really see Donny.

I reiterate, we do not know what is going on, or anything about what was said in that telephone conversation. I.. don't really need to know what happened in the conversation for my point. I made all the wild guesses I cared to for that last thread. Look at the whole comic. Annie arrives in what could be called a.. stunted state. At least I hope that's the word I want. Over the course of years, she finally manages to tear away what the comic has gone on record to admit is her father's influence on how she acts. There were rough patches, but she's in a wildly better place than when she started. This kind of thing most likely only could have happened away from her father. Then he's suddenly there from nowhere, and she instantly reverts to her old habits. It could just be bad news, but the new Annie wouldn't just clam up. That's her falling back into bad habits thanks to hearing from her father. That's not healthy, and a good parent shouldn't have encouraged their child to be an emotionless stump in the first place. The nails in the hand and the actual topic of the conversation remain to be seen. That's what I meant by things looking bad right now, and I'm sorry for being less clear on that. I've been practicing expressing myself in a more concise manner lately to improve my language skills, but it doesn't seem to be working.

Donny suggests she get a journal, and the rest of the chapter is her writing in it. Because this is Tom it's somehow made exciting. (nod) I can think of a far worse scenario. It's too bad that Annie can't forget about her Dad and just get adopted by the Donlans. It looks like James drops in frequently enough, so what's point? At least, now. If this goes long enough, adrenaline surge attenuates pain sensitivity until after some cooling. Which isn't a good thing in cases when the pain is a self-inflicted distraction, of course. Then again, aftereffects aren't that bad. Annie's obviously feeling this a lot more than she's letting on. She was even fooling herself, but she can't fool Donny. Why do you think she was fooling herself? Because she didn't scream "Ohmygosh! <whateverconcerns>!" immediately at the top of her lungs? It's pretty much her normal state when holding back something nasty. And the nastier it goes, the smoother and calmer Annie looks. and she instantly reverts to her old habits. It could just be bad news, but the new Annie wouldn't just clam up. That's her falling back into bad habits thanks to hearing from her father. Just "clam up"? You think the wall is here to protect the inside from the outside? Remember how this went the first time?

Just one more thing - Dude, Anja, you've been married to the guy for what? 15, 20 years? Can't you get him a pair of wireless frames or something? Sheesh. Contrary view on that point: when I don't have my glasses on, I can't see well enough to find wire-frame or frameless glasses.

Contrary view on that point: when I don't have my glasses on, I can't see well enough to find wire-frame or frameless glasses. I don't think this would be an unsolvable problem for either of these two. ;D Though if they did it Donald's way, glasses would need thick frames to hold the power source anyway.

I am going to go agaisnt the grain here... I think this could be good for Annie. You have to face your demons. Her growth as a character wouldn't be complete without the chance to use her new skills (showing emotion, humor, asking for help) against her old foe (abandonment issues, isolation, growing up too soon). It's not unlike the intrepid farmgirl using her new silver sword against the dragon that burned down her cottage in the first chapter. Without a second confrontation, the sword doesn't really mean anything. We don't know how Annie will react. Just because her first reaction is to withdraw, doesn't mean she will stay like this. It just means she is struggling. If she is able to respond to this like New Annie instead of Old Annie, we will know that she has really transformed as a character. agree wholeheartedly
