My guess is Blue made it up and Annie was already 'hypnotized' at that time.

They are upset by the fact that a fairy was named. "Red" is the first time one of them receives a name.
I'd like a sad gol-shogeg at my funeral.

I still can't decide what's funnier about the first panel: sad worm thing or smug Blue. I'm tempted to think that's Blue talking in that third-last panel, via Annie. A la Zimmimony from Spring Heeled ][ that is? else she'd be fighting the demon-worm in question, not wailing about it. Annie is moe action-oriented than melodramatic. That too. A good typo, by the way. If Blue made the Gol-Shogeg up, then how did Annie know what it was before she saw it? That part is obvious, but fairies don't seem to be keen on stopping to phrase their thoughts precisely, especially not constantly buffyspeaking Red. If Antimony says this, it would mean there's no such worm to the best of her knowledge, if Red does, it may mean illusion, or set-up, or almost everything. Seems to me Blue and Annie are in on it together. [...] Blue gave Annie the chance to show some faerie-like imagination, then ran with her idea. I somewhat doubt about this part. Annie could do it just to know whether it's made up or what, but after all, Blue was visibly jealous. If she still involved Annie, she grew up from Chapter 15 a lot... then again, she ran "show, don't tell" and had no need to ask. I think Blue made up the gol-shogeg and Annie went along with it. There isn't even an article for Gol-Shogeg on wikipedia: Don't trust the press from Zimmyburg. ;D

Short answer: Zirka, you had it right, Red is being a wet blanket.
Annie made up the Gol-Shogeg when Blue asked for a description, hence Annie's pensive (rather than alarmed) look in 990 panel 6, Blue's chuckle, and the rather casual description (big-worm-slug-monster. Really?). Also, following Annie's eyes in 992 panel 4, it's Red's lack of a reaction that alarms Annie.

I'm inclined to believe Red here. I think Blue made up the gol-shogeg and Annie went along with it. There isn't even an article for Gol-Shogeg on wikipedia: Obviously Blue was trying to summon a demonic golf shoe. I don't really get anything that's going on here, but Blue is clearly surprised by something that just happened. She doesn't have everything in her pocket at the moment.

my explanation was rather more wacky: Mass hypnosis by Blue That was my first thought, too. The question is: are we over-dramatic, or just dramatic enough for fairies? We shall have to wait and see. Another main reason I think it's hypnosis is the emphasis on makin' as in she has them all forced into acting it out.

Wow Red, way to be a buzzkill.
Also, I kinda want to give Gol-Shogeg in the first panel a hug. :3 It probably wouldn't end well, but still.

Maybe Blue didn't expect Annie to play along quite this hard.
Red and Blue wouldn't know that Annie has spent months in the forest, you know. As far as they're concerned, Annie doesn't know anything about how the faeries behave. But we know that Annie now knows them very well.
ETA: I'm still convinced that Red's display of un-faerielike Serious Business and logic is going to lead to Red graduating either into the main school classes or at least to whatever the next level is in this house.

Wait. I got it now. In the first panel, to the left, the Hedgehog Boy doesn't have any aura and the last time we saw him clearly, his aura was red. Now the worm got the red aura. Hmmm?.. If Annie hadn't already caught on, the mournful demon-worm would probably have given the game away. But I think she already knew, else she'd be fighting the demon-worm in question, not wailing about it. Annie is moe action-oriented than melodramatic. So, jealous or not, Blue gave a clue to Annie because otherwise she risked having a demonstrably fire creature taking it too seriiously and "fireheaded", leading to the lesson becoming too lively and her show spoiled. So she made the critter look recognizable, but way goofier than it is.

2-cents: re-reading the chapter so far, the only forest entities who have been named are Coyote and Yersy, and both of them are important. I bet, by getting a name, Red is now suddenly important among the fairy people.

Yeah, gol-shogeg is definitely made up, but I don't see any reason to believe Annie is just "going along with it". Everyone other than Red seems to believe that everything they're witnessing is real. Their minds are addled by Blue's elaborate "pay attention to me" spell, which makes them play out their parts in a little story about a monster -- kind of like what happened with S1, come to think of it. And we have no indication that Annie is immune to this. So everything Annie thinks she knows about the gol-shogeg was put into her mind by Blue. That's why she hesitated briefly when asked if she knew what a gol-shogeg is: she suddenly realized that she really did know, even though she had no idea where this knowledge came from.

Why are so many people confused about Red and Blue's reaction? They were just surprised at Annie's reaction, when they weren't being that serious. Also it's already been made pretty obvious that Blue was just faking it and yet Annie still seems to believe Blue is dead.
I'm thinking either Annie is also acting and carrying on the joke, or she sees something that Red doesn't.

Yeah, gol-shogeg is definitely made up, The top right corner here. Looks familiar? but I don't see any reason to believe Annie is just "going along with it". Everyone other than Red seems to believe that everything they're witnessing is real. [...] And we have no indication that Annie is immune to this. How about something like that not happening on the way of "this shoggy-gog thing"? Freaking out doesn't make Antimony safer, and she just demonstrated quite vividly what she's made of, so... I'm thinking either Annie is also acting and carrying on the joke, or she sees something that Red doesn't. Other than Blue did put a lot of effort into this show to get specifically Red's attention?

I bet, by getting a name, Red is now suddenly important among the fairy people. Wrong. The Tree Elves that Annie stayed with over the summer had names as well. She stayed with the Anwyn. 849Khepi was the head of the Family. Khepi had a baby boy, while Annie was visiting. Khepi has a son about Annie and Kat's age that was called Kamlen. 874My best guess is that the forest fairies either don't have names, or just never use them, Annie has either Just named Red, "Red" or Annie has committed a faux pas, by calling Red by the color of her hair instead of her actual name. And also why Red? Annie and Red are both redheads, but Annie has hair that is truly red, while Red's hair is actually Orange. Guess Orange sounds like a horrible nickname though doesn't it?

I don't think Annie's playing along; see Red's line in the second panel "She's makin' you do this, you dumps!" So I'd go with the "Blue is using mind control/emotional manipulation" theory. And if it's emotional manipulation, it might affect Annie differently than the other students due to her actual experiences with death.
Though then I guess the question is why Red's not affected by whatever Blue's doing.
