Tom's Twitter: "The blonde girl is called Jan (January) and the purple one is called Cookie Monster (Lily Cooke)" Heh heh, Cookie Monster. That brings a whole new level of hilarity to her facial expressions and speech patterns. And because I was bored:

Also, I swear, I taught a girl uncannily like Blue/Purple in behavior and expressions the last two school years. Wow, I didn't even know behaviour and expressions was a school subject.

Gah, misplaced modifiers. Luckily I didn't teach English. I meant there's a girl I taught who uncannily acts and makes facial expression like her. Also, shut up. Or you burn:

Friends you can't trust to tell the truth aren't friends, no matter how good their character design. My respect for Parley has taken a large blow too. I don't think it's a matter of trust, exactly, because Jan and Cookie totally know the score. And Parley knows they know, but, well, this is just how they all interact with one another. I don't know, I think she's comfortable with them, but she's used to acting one way with her 6th form friends and another around Smitty/Annie/Kat, and so she gets awkward when she has to be around both groups at once. That's...pretty standard teenager stuff, really.

Cookie is adorable! I thought I was being too forward for already liking her, but I'm glad I'm not the only one. These girls were the first new characters since when? Bud and Chang-E last chapter. And the horse.

A bit off topic, but...
Why is it that I can never get away from the "how can you not hate character X with every fiber of their being don't you know all the bad things they've done" attitude? It's been in every other fandom I'm in and now I realize it's in this one, too?
Ugh.

Tom's Twitter: "The blonde girl is called Jan (January) and the purple one is called Cookie Monster (Lily Cooke)" ;___]_ once more. Heh heh, Cookie Monster. That brings a whole new level of hilarity to her facial expressions and speech patterns. And because I was bored: Hey, she's the Cookie Monster, not a Flyin' Purple People Eater. ;D It's been in every other fandom I'm in and now I realize it's in this one, too? Well, here it's much harder to take this seriously. Especially after Zimmy and her stunts.

Bud and Chang-E last chapter. And the horse. And Vin Diesel.[/quote] Objection! Vin has been part of the cast since the first City Face. He'd just been behind the scenes.

I don't think that counts. Being part of the comic doesn't mean he's part of the cast. It'd be like saying Tom is part of the cast.

I want to eat your face. It could just be so yummy. I'd like to have your face in my tummy. I want to eat your smile. Your smile is so beguiling. If I could eat your smile, I'd be smiling. I want to eat your knees! Oh they would really please me. So let me eat those knees, Don't you tease me! - from a really bad science fiction movie, "The Creature Wasn't Nice" Hey, she's the Cookie Monster, not a Flyin' Purple People Eater. ;D In fact, she's the only one in this scene who would be in any danger from a Flying Purple People Eater.

Cookie Monster with her "Oh noes!" show of hilarious cutesy (or cute hilarity?) still makes me almost fall out of the chair at the sight of this page. Being part of the comic doesn't mean he's part of the cast. It'd be like saying Tom is part of the cast. Hm... Didn't we see him in a boat with Tea or something like this?

Is it just me or is Jan totally Jones' daughter? (Jan Jones...) damn, beat me to it. I was just about to point out that aside from J-name they share the same behaviour patterns and even look very similar! (this page, panel 5 vs. I don't know, this for instance: www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=818

That's...pretty standard teenager stuff, really. This is a very good point. This isn't just a teenager thing. I know from experience you do NOT MIX TWO DIFFERENT GROUPS OF FRIENDS. It does not go well. They are not already the same group of friends for good reasons, usually. Being adults does not obligate anyone to get along... Then you're stuck trying to explain to both groups that the other group are great once you get to know them...

Anyone else see a bit of Jones in Nonchalant? Like a daughter or niece or something? It's the half-closed eyes and skin/hair color that does it for me. Yes, snuffa's link there shows just what I was trying to explain in the two of them.

I <3 THIS INFLUX OF NEW CHARACTERS!!!!!!!!!!! Bud is my HERO, Chang'e was awesome (even though she competes with Paz; it's a pity she'll probably never appear again), and Cookie Monster and Blondie... I LOVE THEM SO MUCH! I agree with the people who disagree with Parley's decision in keeping things from her friends. The two groups have probably never met only because they're different ages - they'd probably get along fine if they met each other independent of Parley's company (even if Cookie might annoy Annie and Kat a little bit). I mean, really. They're commenting on how cute Smitty is for a dude a year younger. I love Parley, but she needs to suck it up. :/

So...i'm not the only one that thought blondie was a guy, right? I think Blondy's just a really butch girl, but I don't know. I like that we can't tell for sure. Parley calls them both "ladies" in the second-to-last panel of this page, though, so that's something. Still. Genderfluidity in Gunnerkrigg FTW. and i never say "FTW"ETA: Tom's Twitter: "The blonde girl is called Jan (January) and the purple one is called Cookie Monster (Lily Cooke)" Ahh. Ok. She's a girl and she's Jan. Pretty cool. And I'm just not digging Parley's friends at all. They're at that late-teens ( ), full-of-themselves stage where they think that being a couple years older than the younger teens makes them kings and queens of the world; I know it all and my taste (in music, books, etc) is superior to yours and I am relaxed and chill~ and totally a veteran of life. Nothing can surprise ME.Ehh. Is anyone else noticing the change in art style in this chapter? Tom's work has really changed so much over time. And in these last few pages, things like faces, posture, seem more shaded and hold more dimension. IDK. Is it just me who sees that?

Friends you can't trust to tell the truth aren't friends, no matter how good their character design. They're clowns, but here we see "friendly" level of abuse on both sides. As in "a stranger would be chased with a rusty axe for saying the same". ;D I think I expressed myself poorly. I wasn't talking about Parley's friends being truthful to her, I'm saying that Parley doesn't trust her friends enough to tell the truth to THEM. She's hiding things and being decietful out of fear she might lose their favor. George, its time to grow up a bit. You're being a total jerkwad to your bf, because you're afraid. Only two things can happen if she stops lying. 1) Her friends accept it (other than giving her the masssive amounts of friendly crap that all friends are allowed to give) or 2) She finds out they aren't very good friends after all. C'mon, Parley. Its PERSONAL GROWTH TIME! (Of course, I'm also waiting to see if Smitty has grown up enough to call her on it. My bets are on no.)

So, basically, you dislike them for acting like typical teenagers? Because, really, teenagers typically do that. It's easy to scoff looking back, but at that age? Every single year above is a significant achievement because that's the stage when they're becoming physically mature, they know they're maturing, people acknowledge they're maturing, but there are still not acknowledge as adult. Every little rung up the ladder is one step closer to not being dismissed as a kid anymore, so its not surprising that they try to put as much distance from "kid-ness" by putting on pretensions of "greater maturity" than the "younger" no matter how small the gap. Until I changed my job recently due to financial needs, I was a high school teacher--and this is exactly how the lot of them acted. Even the shyest and/or most bullied kid had his or her moment of "Heh, wow, I'm the older and wiser one!" when mingling with the ones from lower year levels. As someone mentioned before, sometimes that attitude does not stem from any actual malice. Sometimes teenagers like like to think of themselves as more mature than they were a year ago because they want to stop being dismissed as "just a kid," and the importance of than need just inflates the need to do so. As Tom has said more than once about Annie during her lapses, "She's just a stupid kid"--but, hey, so were we as much as we may not want to remember. I mean, really, isn't this just a bit too harsh and judgmental from all of two pages of interaction? That's, what, a few minutes in real time? Wouldn't be fair if I judged you, or anyone else for that matter, from from a few minutes of not-so-great behavior now, wouldn't it?
