So any guesses on what the extra page will be about?
I'm thinking something on the blinker stone (we never did see it given back). Or, if it was passed back off-screen, maybe a bit on Jack.

So any guesses on what the extra page will be about? Crab kisses. It'll be like the Swords! page, just a big, heavily illustrated discussion of crustacean makeouts.

This is also more of the ongoing indication of Annie's major personality change coming through the Wood over the summer, which still remains unexplained to me. Why does there need to be an etheric explanation for this? What we've actually seen strikes me as a plausible explanation for her psychological changes, especially since her current personality is closer to what she was like when she was younger.

I somehow doubt that an unpleasant sight during an etheric peep is the real reason spying using this system is a bad idea. The real reason is probably more significant and has yet to be learned. It probably runs along the lines of, "If you open yourself to this type of situation, you make yourself vulnerable to those that are more powerful, and you can become their playthings/victims." Annie's had some psychic shocks that could indicate this is true, such as when she first saw Coyote and the Wood etherically. I doubt Annie is yet a major power etherically. Coyote and others have protected Annie so far, but it can't last forever. This is also more of the ongoing indication of Annie's major personality change coming through the Wood over the summer, which still remains unexplained to me. On the earlier side, she would never have batted an eyelash at Lindsey and Bud's kiss. Now it's an apparent grotesquery. Ketrak as grotesque as he was, was still someone Annie got to know and became used to him. She warned Kat because she knew he was unpleasant to look at. In this case though it's probably something she's never seen before. It's one thing to look at something that's gross, it's another to see something that's gross making out.

Also I think you're taking this page to seriously especially since it was supposed to end on a 'haha' note.

Why does there need to be an etheric explanation for this? What we've actually seen strikes me as a plausible explanation for her psychological changes, especially since her current personality is closer to what she was like when she was younger. Even more so, I think this is her REAL personality vs. her reserved one. I think going to the woods allowed her probably not to have the same restrictions that modern day society tends to exemplify and in a way set a tiger from a cage loose. I know I feel like I'm bound by the restrictions of the modern world and if I had a chance to let loose and be wild I sure as hell would. But having had that set free would you really want to go back to how you used to be now that you have this new found and possibly wonderful outlook? I wouldn't want to. I'm sure Annie feels the same way. She's calmed down quite a bit since the beginning of her return to Gillitie woods and seems to be slowly reintegrating herself back into the world of Gunnerkrigg. I wouldn't be surprised that at some point she goes back to having that quiet and docile personality. You gotta remember though, she does have a bit of fire spirit in her which is why I'm led to believe my whole rant up above.

An expression of disgust so profound it's bled over into the real world! I approve.
And anyway Annie spent half the chapter trying to use makeouts as leverage for her revenge scheme, now karma has turned the makeouts against her.

Just as the makeouts were becoming a concern of hers, all of the makeouts were ruined forever.

Annie's meetings with Jeanne seem to supply this idea. A very pointed incident... There could also be a measure of.....etiquette
I like your suggestion about vulnerability to stronger powers, that does seem to fit nicely. True and thanks. Also: THE HORROR, THE HORROR OF IT ALL. Crabs making out. Terrifying I just don't know. I had four pet hermit crabs when I was a boy and never saw anything horrifying. They were cute. The even had individual personalities, or at least some were braver than others. Now, if we view Bud and Lindsey as more like distant relatives of Cthulhu, then things become more conspiratorial. So many other mythos have been tied in, we might as well get some trace of this one, even if only in speculation in the forums. Then again, Bud was etherically spying on the kids throughout the whole night and as we learned from the laser cows, turnabout is fair play. I get the feeling Bud may know what he's doing, whereas Annie is just stumbling about. Bud and Lindsey both may well have been watching Annie spy on them and "locked lips" deliberately. Annie! You need to get to work on your powers!

Seems more like Bud and Lindsey got to reminiscing about the past when they were younger and just sort of got into a romantic mood. They are evidently old enough to know of the kids parents and their antics and have been in the court for decades. I wonder if they knew Surma, although neither one gave any hint of that.
Seeing just how they do procreation may be even more horrible unless they do the 'spawn millions of sperm and eggs' method rather than you know what.

Seeing just how they do procreation may be even more horrible unless they do the 'spawn millions of sperm and eggs' method rather than you know what. If it makes anyone feel any better I think it is very unlikely that merostomatazons reproduce via internal fertilization. You're probably more-or-less on target with the "spawn millions of sperm and eggs" thing but considering their size I'd guess fewer bigger eggs at deeper depths and protected by chemically-appropriate sediment. And that's only if they carry things through to actual reproductive sex; as a pair-bonded couple I assume they could content themselves with, er, ritualistic pre-mating behaviors. [edit] Clarification: Going by the comments on the comic and Formspring, what some people are thinking is happening is not happening, and is probably impossible anyway. Also, to the person who complained that merostomatazon is an invalid taxon: I assume a generic name is impossible, considering extra-dimensional origin, though as they're intelligent "merostomatazon" may actually be self-applied or a translated application of same. But I am impressed by your nerd-power. And welcome to the forums Toloc![/edit]

I somehow doubt that an unpleasant sight during an etheric peep is the real reason spying using this system is a bad idea. The real reason is probably more significant and has yet to be learned. In the Dresden Files, a series of books which I commend to all right-thinking GC fans, viewing something with the "Sight" (which is the nearest equivalent to this situation) results in the image thus viewed being permanently engraved in one's memory. At least one time during the series so far, the protagonist has Seen something considerably more horrible than the subject of current discussion, and blenches at subsequent reminders. This would seem to me a good reason to treat it very carefully.
