I was very tired when I made this topic. Thank you, Xan, for bringing the error to my attention.

I know it's awful, but I hope S13 punches that guy in the face. (and then Ann sets him on fire)

He's probably nice.
Why would he be programmed for evil?

Maybe they were shut down because they wouldn't shut up about Jeanne. She died, and they did nothing.

I think too that the scratched part on the heart is a symbol critical for the robot to move autonomously, but doesn't impair it from executing scripted instructions.
I'd suspect this is so simply because Diego found a way to create these hearts in identical series, industrially, so when he needed a bunch of scripted actor-bots, he just made the standard heart and scratched out the unnecessary part, it was simpler than to create new molds or whatever.

She gave the 'bot a heart bypass.

I think that Frankenbot will not harm Kat. He will either thank Kat (with a proper bow addressing her as Angel Princess Kat) or he might actually babble on about Jeanne dying or Diego shutting him down.

You're probably right. Still, what were some of the robots nervous or afraid about as far as reactivation goes?

I think the robots were afraid that the head of Gunnerkrigg Court would find out about the reactivation. I don't think that even Kat and Annie could keep this secret for long before someone finds them out.

Oh Annie, you have forever ruined the moon. Why are we the only ones to comment on this? D: That was an amazingly slick callback.

Every appearance of the moon has had a fingerprint on it since Annie touched it. I agree it's always great to see, and makes me want to go back and re-read that chapter every time.

anyone thinkin' that that the robots might be a bit peeved that jeanne, someone they see as representing the court, caused their father so much grief? this mght explain the aggression, and the consequential deactivation..

anyone thinkin' that that the robots might be a bit peeved that jeanne, someone they see as representing the court, caused their father so much grief? this mght explain the aggression, and the consequential deactivation.. Except that we don't know their timeline of construction. We never actually saw any of the larger robots in flashbacks to Diego and Jeanne's time, all we saw were parts and a robot skeleton on the workbenches. Were the models we have seen (including Frankenbot) constructed and/or programmed before or after Jeanne died? Did he reprogram them after she died, did the robots themselves program themselves to mourn Jeanne? They certainly existed before Jeannes death, but what was Diegos progress on the robots at the time of the recording? 99% of the history surrounding Diego and the robots is a blank to us readers. Remember, at the time of Jeannes death, he was somewhere in his 20s, 30s, and he lived to be an old man, something like 70+.

I think its also a subtle reminder that this world IS a fictional place! This world has a fingerprint on the moon, our world has astronaut debris.

Maybe they were shut down because they wouldn't shut up about Jeanne. Oh, of course! The Court wanted to erase all memory of her, so why not? Very good thinking.

And on Mondays page..
We get to see Kat sporting a new fancy bionic arm to replace the one she lost in a terrible wrist grabbing incident.

woah woah woah I know it's awful, but I hope S13 punches that guy in the face. (and then Ann sets him on fire) A bit of an overreaction perhaps, but considering the size and assumed strength of the robot (he IS made of metal and all that) and Kat's size (as someone with tiny wrists, I can identify), it is a bit nerve-wracking. We don't know what the 'bot will do, and he could easily break her wrist even by accident. I've had someone threaten to break my wrist before, and it's a tense time.

That's pretty cool. I know it's awful, but I hope S13 punches that guy in the face. (and then Ann sets him on fire) Eh, why? More likely, Annie will try to stop everyone and talk him out of this. After all, if she see it goes nowhere, she always can ... oops, you got something disconnected. Though yes, seeing Kat in danger is a good test of whether Coyote's lessons were really worth the time. This world has a fingerprint on the moon, our world has astronaut debris. Maybe, it's visible only in the Court's vicinity? After all, once Coyote is involved, you never know...

What we've learned today is that Diego sucked at implementing Error Correction Code in his designs. Also, quick'n'dirty-- Reminds me of an idea for an avatar I had. It would be the same scene at different times of the day, and it would load the correct one based on the current time.

May I go all literary analysis for a moment? I see a symbolic parallel between Coyote's threat to chop off Annie's wrist if she reveals the secret of his gift to her and Kat's wrist in danger of being crushed by the robot as she had revealed it's "secret". Both young women are in the process of uncovering the secrets of both the forest and the court and are putting themselves in (similar?) risks ( the hands in danger representing self agency).

<snip!> This is, of course, assuming that Annie/Robot/all the other robots don't automatically come to Kat's aid before anything else can be done. Heh, good call.

That, and after it's been mentioned once in a thread, it's been mentioned. Not a whole lot to gain by repeating the same sentiment (btw, yes, I like that, too)

But imagine all the hilarious conspiracy theories that must have popped up outside the world of the court?
Suddenly the moon has a fingerprint on it!
ALIENS!
GOVERNMENT WEAPON
FOREIGN WEAPON!
GOVERNMENT COVER UP OF ALIENS!
GOVERNMENT PURPOSEFULLY MAKING EVIDENCE OF ALIENS TO CREATE DOUBT THAT ALIENS EXIST!

#696 also features the moon with the fingerprint on it (fifth panel, half-moon).
