I doubt Red helped with the boots, I get the impression that Annie only turned to Red in 'Desperate Times!' AFTER Kat and Annie fell out; the boots were available as soon as Kat arrived at the dorms. Other fairies or Coyote would be my guess, but we surely haven't seen all the forest has in terms of magical creatures yet.

Yea you're right, I misread it as them saying that Red helped with the boots but were talking about Reds attempt at helping

haha, this entire chapter I was like, "Annie, why haven't you showered yet? Wash yourself up and go to bed!" glad someone else said something!

I think the beret looks fine. It just doesn't go with that outfit.
So, Antimony can use magic now? Size-changing boots aren't something the blinker stone would do, so she must have learned it from someone else. What else has she learned?

Poop? Please, that's amateur-quality work. When Annie takes up Tzimisce fleshcrafting, she does it properly.

Not mine though; I once filked "City of New Orleans" to talk about the then-upcoming end of WoD. (Use of acronym to not give away the reference too easily.)

I didn't really like this chapter much. There had to be something about Kat's response to what happened in the last chapter, but what played out wasn't really that interesting. Wasn't as funny as the other comedy-focus chapters, either.

Wasn't as funny as the other comedy-focus chapters, either. Much of the last chapter was more about emotions than comedy, though the extent of Annie's desperation was quite funny, and the innocence of those such as Mort foiling her well thought plans. I thought it was a good change of pace in the story; you can't keep doing the same thing every page or chapter without it becoming tiresome eventually. And Kat's response seems reasonable and understandable to me. It makes the characters and story more realistic. I also thought it was a good progression showing Annie's growth character-wise as well as physically. Seems to me Annie is starting to open up to her emotions by starting to care about what happens around her and to the people around her. In the beginning, I believe she really didn't care and just took things as they came (what with all the hate and hurt dealing with her mother's illness and death, and also her experience with all those guides). Note how chapter 1 only showed Annie (and no other living being, most of the time) even though it was stated clearly she was in school (and possibly in the middle of a semester). Now she needs to learn to come-to-terms with her emotions and keep them under some control. I have also noticed that the young Annie and the people around her were done in a very simplistic art style in the beginning of the comic (almost sticks for legs for Annie and her classmates). That probably can be attribute to a developing art style of a comic artist, but it does play in the story's favor by illustrating how Annie's perceptions are developing, as well as how Annie and her classmate physically develops. However, considering how detailed the Tic Toc was drawn in chapter 1, and the detail put into the Court itself in following chapters, it is possible that Tom Siddell had planned it that way too.

@pete: Theres also the difference between Basil, who appeared in the second chapter and the Basil now in chapter 32. It really shows how Toms art skills have developed. He was pretty plain the first time, little shadowing and no details, now he is more detailed with shadowing and all.
I attribute that mainly to Toms developing art style and skill.

I really enjoy Tom's current style, but I liked the original angular style too. Its not anatomically correct, its just more 'cartoony' Annie's legs would break if her ankle was thinner than her fingers.
It was a unique look but it reminded me of ScaryGoRound.

Hahaha, I know Basser is going to like this news. And huh, Rey actually LIKES how Annie smells. Maybe since he's a wolf it's like a feast for the senses if she reeks? Please your dogs, everybody, never take a shower! Maybe animals like a more natural, familiar smell of the forest than all the extremely strong perfumes we humans like to use

I've got to say that I agree a lot with Pete-ohki here regarding to his last post about art and everything.
I just recently went over most of the comic again and I actually like how the art has developed and that it has developed in the first place !
I read a lot of Tom's formspring answers and went through the wiki - I understand that he had had a more limited colour palette etc planned for the comic and all (?) the changes we see now have been gradual and even subconscious. I think he has made excellent choices on the way and all of it holds together in a very nice way. So again - mr. Tom - I'm a big fan of what you do.
PS! I enjoyed the last chapter very much

On the second page of this chapter, Renard quite ecstatically proclaims, "You smell like the forest!" - so there, no wonder he likes her smell. That was before several hours of "galavanting about". Heh. I thought they had a hardware conflict between Annie's shoulder and Kat's windpipe. ;D Between the boots and the, uhhh... "hat", Kat definitely got the better end of that deal. But we don't know what she built into it yet. So Red is actually known as Red in the comic, too. Even if not, other students could nickname them on sight. Watch Kat's face as her boots take a poop on the floor. "Well, to begin with, these shoes are made from ferment-processed mushrooms..." I bet that went over lots of people's heads. Not mine though; Excellent! Then guess where my misquote (above) came from.

Maybe animals like a more natural, familiar smell of the forest than all the extremely strong perfumes we humans like to use I'd much rather smell natural scent than any perfume, assuming decent personal hygiene. In fact, I tend to be pretty uncompromising about it at dances, since being able to breathe freely is something that I value highly. One lady told me "All the other guys here like my perfume!", so I said "I guess they're all a lot nicer than I am." I imagine that one reaches a sort of equilibrium point, living out in the wild, where the natural odors one acquires dissipate as one goes along. Still, the occasional dip in a pond would be nice, at the very least. I hope we get some flashbacks to tell us some of what went on with Annie's stay in the forest, but regular baths may not have featured prominently.

It was a summer break from school - but a summer in England, where the temperature occasionally gets up to a scorching 70 degrees fahrenheit. (And by the way, that's a link to a "page 2" which contains no link to "page 1" so here's that page.)

Sure there were times when the weather was cold (in a Surma and Anja flashback for one), but not snow.

A "scorching" 70 degrees Fahrenheit? Where are you FROM? I'm from the 2nd coldest city in the continental United States in Minnesota and I would hardly describe 70 degrees as scorching. 70 degrees is room temperature.

That's the drawback with being sarcastic or ironic in print; sarcasm depends on the tone of voice accompanying it.
(It reminds me of this quote from "The Simpsons" (altered slightly to make the context clearer): "Mr. Burns can't see you winking over the phone, Homer.")

Oh lord my eyes are burning! Just spent the last 24 hours reading this comic from beginning to current page. New guy by the way.
Loved this page, especially the fox's expression and rationale for Annie's stench. (I normally remember his name but am now rather sleep deprived.)
And Tom if you're reading this, big fan of your work. Loving the storyline and everything.
I go to sleep now.

The fox's name is Renard (or Reynardine) by the way.

I have to say, out of the other "light" chapters, this is one of my favorites. It's a good transition from chapter 31, and the fact that it focused on the girls' friendship made it fairly important.
And I also love how the art has developed. The early chapters were awesome too, but I really like the more realistic style that the characters are drawn in now.
