Joke's on us-- In the Gunnerverse, Princess Mononoke is a historical documentary.

I wonder if super giant sea monster can hear everything they're saying quite distinctly...

(Is 6 weeks the standard summer vacation time in England? We always got 10 weeks.) It depends on the school district and/or the school in the US, maybe it's similar in the UK.

"The super giant sea monster was right." Only in Gunnerkrigg, ladies and gentlemen. I came in to say, I hope sometime in my lifetime I have an opportunity to use that quote in conversation. Bonus points if it is actually a relevant use.

In the UK school generally finishes in July and starts again in September. The exact dates vary from school to school but they it is v. rare for it not to be those months. {edit}By "school" I mean for people of Kat's and Annie's age. If you're talking about college or university, there's wider variation in holiday dates.

Also give my regards to Crabby... err... Lindsay (dammit, too much Pokemon)! She seems like one brilliant engineer. That's one big Crabby! More of a Kingler I reckon, which is even cooler. I've been wondering what the black fabric in Annie's outfit is. Any ideas? Maybe it's made of Shadow People...

I've been wondering what the black fabric in Annie's outfit is. Any ideas? Maybe it's made of Shadow People... It could be a dyed fabric. As for material, it could be just about any natural fibre, silk, cotton (nothing stopping forest people from growing cotton I don't think), hemp, flax, animal hair, or even something totally unique to Gillitie. The brown waist thing looks like it is from her vest, the color is the same. As for everything else, it's just as much of a guess, although the leggings could be made from animal hide or a tougher fabric, similar for the arm wrappings she had on earlier.

"A crabby engineer"... Why do I get a feeling there is a punch-line somewhere in that thought? I've been wondering what the black fabric in Annie's outfit is. Any ideas? Maybe it's made of Shadow People... I've been also wondering about that for some time now. In my opinion, everything Annie had came in wearing could have been handmade in the forest except that black t-shirt. And then after thinking about it for a while (especially about Annie's first appearance in page 3), the Supremes' song, Love Child, started playing in my mind for some reason... (NOW HOW DO I MAKE THE SONG STOoOP?! ) Love Child, Never meant to be Love Child, Scorned by Society Love Child, Always second best Love Child, Different from the rest

In my opinion, I think that it would have to be something other than animal hides. Seeing as many of these animals seem to have a higher sense of intelligence, it would be moderately odd to wear something's hide that could talk back to you. As for the black shirt, it could quite honestly be on of her shirts dyed black. And as you can see, Ysengrin is wearing the same kind of green material that she wears, so it quite possibly could be the same material. And, her white shirt could easily be dyed.

I think most of Antimony's garments would be made of dyed linen from flax. Wool and leather also fit with the climate. In real life young women respond less favorably than this when you tell them their outfits remind you of cartoon characters. Trust me on this, I lived through the 80s. Depends on the girl and how you say it, generally it probably works better in girl-to-girl conversations (unless the girl in question is my friend who despite not being big on anime in general is waiting for a guy to recognise her Sailor Moon earrings so she can propose ;D) I probably shouldn't ask but I am mildly curious. If your friend isn't big on anime in general then why would she be looking for a guy who would recognize her Sailor Moon earrings? Also: Belated welcome to the forums, Inwitari!

A NOTE ON THE WHITE WOLF
Not to overdo the japan references in this page alone, but, uh, does Renard totally turn into Amaterasu from Clover's one hit wonder: Okami? I think so.

I can't believe how much of a Narutard im being right now, but when I read "Amaterasu" I instantly thought of the Black Flames from the manga... Dx

Just thought I'd mention.

Amaterasu was suppose to be a Japanese sun goddess, and Renard is decidedly not female. So, I'm not sure if that is a good association. I liked that game though.

Works for me with the black shirt. While the waist piece could certainly be from her tan vest, the blouse is a darker green color and looks closer to the material of Ysengrins robe than her old blouse. The leggings, while a similar color as her nylon stockings, look like a different material alltogether. Perhaps, but as we've seen with Ysengrin fishing, even the forest inhabitants have to eat, and we don't know if the Anwyn (looking back, it's a bit wierd that Tom didn't capitalize the 'a' in that word in the comic, then again, it's the text style he uses I guess.) are completely vegetarian or not.

In Narnia they had talking and non-talking beasts of all kinds. (You probably won't learn this from the movies, gotta read the books.) The talking beasts did not hunt each other for food, but there was no problem with talking predators eating non-talking prey.
(Being scared speechless was a bad idea.)
In Nick O'Donohue's Crossroads books, predator species hunted prey species without regard to whether they spoke. But then, these books aren't aimed at children.
Gillitie Woods contains - that we've seen - large predators, large omnivores, small predators, and I think medium-size predators. (Have we seen crows in/near the Woods?) We have no reason to believe any of them have turned vegetarian, and we definitely know that at least one of them has not.

The talking beasts did not hunt each other for food, but there was no problem with talking predators eating non-talking prey. I remember that issue being raised in "Prince Caspian". One reason why Nikabrik is suspicious of Caspian was because Caspian had been on royal hunts; Trumpkin and Trufflehunter pointed out that the talking animals live so deep in hiding thanks to the Telmarine invasion that the hunts' quarries were regular non-talking animals. And there's the bit about the bear (which did get into the movie, though handled differently - in the book, Lucy wonders uneasily what might happen if humans started "going wild", but on the inside, so that you wouldn't know who had gone wild and who hadn't). (This isn't the first time I've thought of C. S. Lewis - or Narnia - in connection with "Gunnerkrigg Court". Some of the actions of the people running the Court have reminded me of Lewis' villains at times - such as Andrew Ketterley in "The Magician's Nephew", who carries out several dastardly acts of his own in his pursuit of knowledge and argues that it's all right for him to do things that might be wrong for other people, on the grounds that he's a great researcher and scientist:"Ours is a high and lonely destiny." I can imagine the Founders using a similar justification when they were plotting to murder Jeanne.)
