When I read this page, I took it to be something much sadder than others are interpreting it at; the conclusion I jumped to is that the Court had taken advantage of Kat and Annie being gone to forcibly reprogram Robot because he was too intelligent and was giving the other robots ideas. That said, wouldn't mind if what is actually going on turns out to be something lighter.

If that is the case, I hate to think what has happened to Shadow2. As far as I can see, he is not here, and if the court found him when they got Robot, what would they do to him?

The first thought: S13 failed to recognize Kat with new hairdo, so now she sees the Court Robots' ancient traditions as they are. The second thought: unlike these two, Katt and S13 play "guess whom i mimic" and today it chose to show Boxbot. The third thought: it was bitten by Boxbot and now is the night of full moon. Also, it's possible that Kat told S13 to attenuate the display of adoration a little, hence an attempt to reduce the average value (the robot talks to itself because it's hard to do).

Maybe its not actually Robot... maybe the self maintaining robots decided to replicate him like they did Diego's robots. They don't understand what Robot's independence means so they've interpreted it to be "act annoying"

Perhaps Jack reprogrammed Robot as a prank? This one's what I was thinking. After Boxbot of course. Boxbot is still the most likely option. (Jack does seem to have talent with both the etheric and scientific. He's like super-balanced, or whatever) By the way: Robot thinks Kat's an angel like all the other robots, right? But he also thinks Annie is his Mommy, or at least still did the last time I knew. Who does he value more? As in, if he got both sides of Annie and Kat's story, who would he side with? Presumably Kat, but still.

As stated previously, we don't have enough info to guess about what's happening. But I'm going to guess anyway. My guess: Robot does not know what just happened between Annie and Kat (he's not that fast at picking stuff up; besides, nobody else was there that could have told them). He sees Kat back from vacation, is happy to see her, and tries to make a joke out of being a stereotypical robot. On Wednesday, I bet that Kat will give Robot the cold shoulder, and he will be confused. Some people are saying that Robot may have been reprogrammed, but I personally doubt this. They wouldn't reprogram him to kick over bags or to say things like "Must. Cause. Inconvenience!" I think that this is just Robot being ironic for a joke.

Someone needs maintenance.
Also, is this a reception room?

Perhaps the robots have some prophesy that at a certain time a robot will annoy the "angel", and her reaction to this will have some kind of religious importance. Robot volunteered to fulfil this role... - or maybe it has something to do with the print on Kat's T-shirt Whatever it is I don't think it's related to the situation between Kat and Annie, but through this chapter the two issues will be interwoven somehow. Well, that's my guess anyway.

Oh come on guys. I will bet all of my money that this is not going to be serious, and it's just Robot trying to cheer Kat up.
I mean really.

With kicking her bag? Interesting, I'll try it on my friends next time they seem to be down. : D ... Possibilities for Robot acting odd include: 1. He overheard some/all of the conversation either in person or through the communications terminal and thinks Kat was too hard on Antimony, 2. as 1 except Shadow eavesdropped and filled Robot in, and 3. Robot is growing up and is rebelling (we went from Princess Kat to angel to "human girl") and 4. Robot is attempting to blend in with the other robots by imitation. 1 or 2 is my guess.

Anyone notice how in the third panel, it looks like he's 'coughing' (if he were human)? Sort of like how some people use that to mentally prepare themselves when they are going to put up a big dramatic act? Which he does right after?
Not that it would have to mean anything since Robot is a robot and all...
(Also, maybe he and Shadow2 are both also slightly miffed at Annie AND Kat for ditching THEM. I mean, I'm not sure either of them told them were they would be going and all. And previously, Annie was always at the court during the summer.)

Maybe he's being watched/monitored by others currently out of view, and so is trying to play the typical robot role?
The question is, is that out of fear, or is he giving a comedic performance?

Not that it would have to mean anything since Robot is a robot and all... He's pulled some pretty human behaviors, as have other robots. Anyways, I noticed that last night but never took notice of it. I tried looking at the comic page but the main site is giving me a connection has timed out error. However, I do remember what it looked like. Also, maybe it has something to do with Kats shirt which shows a giant robot terrorizing a city? So, maybe you're right about that, but like someone said earlier, we don't have enough information to really conclude whats going on. legion: It would definetly be funny if that was what happened.

3. Robot is growing up and is rebelling (we went from Princess Kat to angel to "human girl" you know I had a very similar theory to that. I thought "maybe robot wants a name instead of bein called what he is? and is showing his point in a rather annoying fashion"

Nah, it's been too dark recently and I'd be suprised if Tom made the sad times go on for too long. I'd say whatever it is it won't last and will be quite trival to offset the angst.

D:
I'll admit, Jack jumped to mind immediately - especially with the little 'clearing throat' gesture at the beginning. Another way to not ingratiate himself to Kat?

A lot of interesting theories, but I have to agree that we don't have enough information (yet) to do anything but Wild Mass Guessing.
Although I like the "he's trying to cheer her up but failing miserably"
we've just entered a new semester and we really have no idea what Robot's been up to lately. here's my thought, just to add to the giant pile of theories:
He's been taking method acting classes, and he is demonstrating to Kat how good he is at imitating MST3K movie-worthy stereotypical robot actions.

Finally, Tom is getting the hang of how to write robots!
(Also: is it just me or is Kat's face a bit off in the third panel? I'm not quite sure what's wrong but her eye seems a little weird. And isn't her nose less pointy usually?)
Also (again): Sorry for nitpicking Tom! And everyone else too...

*snerk* You guys. YOU GUYS. The bag ruse....IS A DISTACTION.
No, seriously. Somebody wants a chance to talk to Annie unsupervised. The only question is, who could have put Robot up to this tomfoolery? (Or programmed him up to it, I guess - an amateurish override would explain the strange wonky syntax and movements, but I think an amateurish acting attempt to allow plausible deniability after the fact explains them even better. "I was hacked, Angel! Really I was! I'm so sorry!")
A teacher could just have someone in authority take Kat aside, so I'm betting either student or supernatural force. Parley and Andrew have nothing to say to her that they couldn't say in front of Kat, and Annie doesn't have that many other close friends.
All things considered, and given the strategy being used (robot+silliness), this seems to be the work of either Jack or Mort. Hmm. We shall see, we shall see.

I have another theory about why Robot if acting up:
We have seen that Robot has an extrovert personality and does seem a bit childish himself. Last summer he had Annie to keep him company but this summer both Annie and Kat were away. I think, like Kat, he felt abandoned and probably blames Kat and/or her family for Annie leaving him.
When he sees Kat he probably felt a mixture of anger and relief so he's acting out because he's dealing with contradictory emotions.

*snerk* You guys. YOU GUYS. The bag ruse....IS A DISTACTION. My immediate thoughts exactly. It seems like someone told him, "Robot go distract Kat! You know, cause as much inconvenience as possible or something." And this is his interpretation. That or he's just being silly. This seems like Tom's hyperbole silliness rather than something serious.

My guesses: A) The court decided to fiddle with the robots, since they were displaying aberrant behaviors, what with the visiting Jeanne's shrine and yelling, "She died and we did nothing," at people, and they took Robot's little blue thing from his processor; OR B) he's been infected with the dreaded Boxbot virus, thus marking the beginning of events that will lead to Gunnerkrigg's epic climax, where the forest and the Court will have to unite against the terrible menace of an army of Boxbots. I think, A variant is here. Or just Robot trying to make a joke. P.S.: "Kill all humans!" (c)
