Yea, the last couple of pages before the treatise seem to indicate an environment change from a temperate environment to one that looks more tropical and lush environment. Along with the vegetation getting denser, which Ysen would have no trouble navigating through.

In fact we should be expecting this. Tom's never covered summertimes in detail before. The next book will start at the beginning of the school year just like the other two. The events that transpire in the forest will only be revealed though flashback. That would be a real shame, especially with this chapter ending on such a big cliffhanger. Maybe the events of the summer will be covered in the ten-page mini-chapter over the next two weeks? Who knows.

I love the new Tea, who has grown much. Can't wait for the interlude, but I fear the story of Annie in the forest may be slow in coming.

There seems to be some confusion on the page comments where many people believe there will be a ten-page story posted every day. I guess Tom's wording is a bit ambiguous but I take it to mean there's a ten page story, one page posted a day.

Does anybody have any idea what the stick in Tom's hand is for?

I've seen it being used (and used it) to get tall grass out of the way. But... the grass appears pretty short here. Still, it's nice to give depth to the scene.

Well, in all three breaks, he's had something cylindrical in his hands - Telescope, oars, now the stick.
Methinks it's a metaphor for the painting brush/pen/implements Tom uses for creating the comic. Although that's somewhat more difficult to believe with the telescope.
That said, all three things could be considered to be used by guides in their respective domains - the stars, water, and obviously fields of long grass. Or even short grass, I suppose, as I've seen plenty of people just walk with one, hiking and what not. I'd say this ads weight to the paintbrush/ink pen thing whatever metaphor, though - After all, Tom is our only guide through this crazy world of his imagination, and it's through his artistic tools that he does so.
That said, we're assuming that spikey-head there is Tom. Now, I'll admit to not being an elder around these parts, but that's a connection I only made upon reading this here thread, see.

I keep coming back to this page... Tea's dirty face and dark-rimmed eyes, her wry half-smile, the muddy field jackets, Tom looking into the distance at what I'm taking to be the city they were in for the last announcement, post bombing. This has to be one of the most serious pages in GC so far.

I'm hoping, that when we get back, we'll hear about Kat's amazing idea. I think it has something to do with *echo voice* FLYYYINNG ROOBOOTS.
