Enough of this small squishy talk about feelings! Time for Big Manly Talk about Important Things! Those colored ribbons do look a lot more like just ribbons today, rather than independent entities. Many seem attached to things by one end. The symbols on the ground flag in frame 4 remind me of the firestone signals. Still: I wonder if they are in fact responding to Annie's emotions. They seem a lot calmer today, as opposed to the flitting about they did while she was upset. Now that you mention it, the patterns on the ribbons do look somewhat like the firestone signals. I was thinking more like circuit board designs, which made me think they were perhaps etheric wards against Court technology or something. Or maybe they're just pretty. I, too, thought circuit boards at first! I like the idea they may be wards; alternatively, it could be the forest trying to create the "organic computer" version of what the Court has. And if there is one thing I have noticed about Tom's work, it is that something different enough to be commented on is rarely there just to be pretty. One thing I noticed: With one exception (in frame 4 of Monday's comic) all the colorful "exclamation points" (or whatever they are) seem to be attached in some way to either the ground or to a tree.

Antimony gains 100 xp! Antimony has leveled up! Antimony learns DETERMINED FACE! Antimony learns DETERMINED WALK!
Careful, Annie. Those moves don't have much PP in 'em.

You can definitely see rope on those streamers in the last panel. You know, these forest inhabitants seem to know how to throw a welcoming party. Such pretty decorations... I wonder if there will be party hats?

I doubt she will be angry at the guides for their policy of noninterference. She must have come to expect them for that. The best possible response to "You're strong enough to walk on your own" would have been for her to then FLY where they were going. Unless she have to walk at this point not only because 'Grin is allergic to hugs. This walkway is likely to be magical, after all. Somewhere, in an alternate dimension, Pirate Ysengrin (the one that wears an earpatch), is saying to Pirate Annie (the one with a hook for a hand), "Give me a hug, will ye? Fine, then, tech-lubber. Ye can walk the plank!" ;D that there was something left of Surma that needed guiding. As i see it, Guides do two things: carry dead people (to the same place anyway, if i remember Tom's answers correctly), and collect something on transition - Surma didn't have whatever it is, so she had to be moved "from here to there", but wasn't quite their job. Maybe they just cannot transport people "for free" - or they could, but thought ensuring that everything's right personally is a good experience for Antimony. Or encourage impartiality in a Medium. MUDs are muddy opaque. It's an elaborate ruse to get out of carrying her around all the time! Ysengrin, you wily fox, you. moritheil, 26.01.2011, 4:02am # It was a fairly transparent ruse. I'm sure it's true that she will get much stronger - but I'm pretty sure he also said that to stop her from hugging him again. XD Kels, 26.01.2011, 12:13am #
Dear Annie, you're fat. Love, Ysengrin uncreative, 26.01.2011, 12:35am #
Hey! Was this sarcasm, Ysengrin? :D scaramousche, 26.01.2011, 12:40am #
I like how despite the Annie!Hug (which going by panel one he's no appreciating too much) he continues on with what he wants to say, his words of encouragement. I'm really liking Ysengrin's character. Almost like that of an anti-hero but I'd rather say he's just true to himself and what he values. He's a stand-up type of guy, even if it seems he'd rather eat humans than get along with them. Mystickskye, 26.01.2011, 12:49am #
"Imma wolf, not a horse. Ya see a saddle on mah back? Now get the hell off me." Moonman, 26.01.2011, 12:53am #
Subtle, 'Grin. Lynn, 26.01.2011, 6:50am #
The exclamation-mark creatures obviously speak spanish... hjk, 26.01.2011, 7:07am #

It's funny how he stops the physical contact and keeps talking, like how Annie responded to Jack earlier.

By the "firestone signals," are y'all referring to the stuff in the bottom left hand corner of 514?

By the "firestone signals," are y'all referring to the stuff in the bottom left hand corner of 514? I'm thinking more like upper right of 480, or the lower right of 523. There's some circuity-looking stuff in 518

There's also some circuitry symbols on Renard's body in 599. That said, I don't really see the either the Forest or the Court Symbol in the streamers on today's page.

It just seemed right at the time. Very right indeed. Well done! Thanks. Alas they do not fit the requisite 100x100 space.

Antimony gains 100 xp! Antimony has leveled up! Antimony learns DETERMINED FACE! Antimony learns DETERMINED WALK! Careful, Annie. Those moves don't have much PP in 'em. While I'm sure this is a Scott Pilgrim reference, I can't help but think of Willow from BtVS when you say Determined Face.

Although the party hat thing seems to have burnt out a bit. Not as flexible or interesting as the boxbot thing, horrible as it was.
