Maybe I need to stop coming here; my first thought was to laugh because people had thought they were going to get along.
Poor Annie doesn't seem to have the gumption to respond, though.
...unless she's remembering how weak his real body is, and the implications of what he's saying.

I like this page as well. It seems to me she was going berserk again before realizing what he said is true.

Oh man. Annie is not having a good day.
I don't think Ysengrin is trying to be an asshole here, he's just speaking his mind.

He may be just speaking his mind, but I have serious problems with the idea showing emotions is weakness. Annie needs to let it out or it will all bottle up.

Remember that Annie has seen Ysengrin in a weak state, as well. I think part of the last couple panels may be Annie realizing that "I have little patience for weakness" isn't purely tough-guy posturing directed at her.

This seems more like another iteration of the "don't apologise for things you didn't do" line, just said in a much less cuddly way. Sort of a "you don't need an excuse for being here, now quit crying." Trying to tell her to have confidence in her decisions, I guess. Or just being a dick, either way.
Also from my experience in dog grooming I can tell you that the higher up in the pack hierarchy a dog is, the less likely it is to cry out in pain for anything short of mortal trauma. Besides Coyote, Yssy is the alpha dog of the forest. To him, crying over something silly like emotional upheaval is tantamount to saying "look at me, I'm subordinate to everyone and completely unimportant." Probably not what he wants in his future courtside counterpart.

"Little patience" is not "no patience".
Cubs are weak.

:C it is probably terrible that i'm on the exact same wavelength as ysengrin. "you're here, not because we can help you, but because you ran away from your problem instead of facing it." when i realized annie was going to run into the forest, i facepalmed. (before you berate me, this is not a comment on tom's story-telling, it's just that i've seen too many people run away from a problem...it only ever makes it worse.)
of course, i could be entirely wrong, and it could also refer to ysengrin being physically weak...although this makes me wonder if he originally thought of himself as weak, or too weak for whatever his goal was, and took coyote's gift because it made him stronger?

Ysengrin gives Annie an important lesson, IMO, about laws of life & nature. No sympathy for the weak and frail. And yes, like scyllarus said, running away from problems is not a good way to deal with them.
Besides, by saying that I think that Ysengrin will feel like now he's "even" with Annie, after that incident with her seing his true form. Wilderness justice.

I honestly think that he said that to express to her in some shape or form that he feels for her. By pretending to be the way he normally is with her I think it's very helpful and I think she realizes what he's trying to do which is why she goes back to such a sullen state. He's being sympathetic to her by not being sympathetic... by acting as he always does. I think it's very sweet of him actually... Cause even though he says these things he still continues to carry her and let her cry on him.

Cause even though he says these things he still continues to carry her and let her cry on him. That, and he's telling her that he doesn't consider her normal behaviour to be that of a weakling. "I know you're stronger than this" in tough-guy wolf speak. Also I imagine if King Fuzzybarks had come across anyone else besides Annie in that situation they'd be halfway down his digestive tract by now, so just the simple act of not killing and eating her while she was vulnerable says quite a lot about how he feels about her. Or how much he obeys Coyote, either way. Also x2: not sure how representative of wild wolf behaviour Yssy is meant to be, but in the wild a young cub caught unawares by an older male wolf is most likely going to get its head ripped off-- unless it's the older wolf's offspring. So... Ysengrin thinks of Annie as his cub?

The last two panels look like she's actually feeling sorry for him.

Hypocrisy. Hypocrisy everywhere.
Ysengrin, who believes himself a weak, trembling old wolf. Neither side of that canyon is all that perfect.

There are many different ways to read this page, and man are you guys reading it!
Personally I'm going with the people who are choosing to view Ysengrin in a better light, as opposed to just seeing him insulting Annie. I doubt he's had a lot of experience showing sympathy or being empathic and I didn't expect to see him express any such thing in a gentle way.
It's likely he's acting on Coyote's orders but he didn't harm Annie and only spoke when she did, when he could have taunted or mocked her out of his own initiative since discovering her. So he probably does respect Annie to some degree, I think we can confirm that.
I wonder what part of the Forest they're headed?

I love the way the shimmer on Annie's hair resembles an inversion of the "fire spike" from the chapter header, almost like an upside-down crown.

Y's got strength issues which is why he'll abuse his real body to be/appear stronger than he is. He's annoying and Annie is annoyed with him but that's how he is... you can't really expect anything else.
