Apparently the lamps were not consumed. Perhaps it was meant to affect only Eglamore, or nothing at all.

Harold was my thought exactly.
Come on, do Elephant Trunk Slide! It's my favorite!

Anyone seen Full Metal Alchemist? I hate to compare the two, but same basic thing... a certain symbol contains power. Not unlike Anja's program, contained within that eye symbol. Goes along with alchemy just fine.
I wonder if Eggers will get in trouble for even being on the edge of the forest, there...
And the show you are thinking of is Chalk Zone, I believe.

Casual wear?
Kinda a odd choice for responding to a border alarm, considering he showed up in armor last time. Also firewall disabled, and it seems that Annie has disappeared off into the forest. I kinda get the feeling her return isn't going to be on pleasant terms.

Looks like they'll need a helluva gathering to get her back from the Forest.

You think he had the time to suit up?
Maybe last time he was already on duty.

You shouldn't direct link like that, it saps Tom's bandwidth.

I wonder if Eggers will get in trouble for even being on the edge of the forest, there... Well, he was permitted to remain at the forest's edge when Annie visited before. I'm guessing that he can't pursue her past this point, however.

Oh yeah, you're right.
Do you think he'll go on anyway?

Oh yeah, you're right. Do you think he'll go on anyway? I imagine that would cause a lot more problems than it would solve, relations with the forest being what they are.

You shouldn't direct link like that, it saps Tom's bandwidth. ..seriously? It takes more to load the page, since you have HTML and various other images and things that load too. Not to mention, the difference is pretty insignificant in the greater scheme of things. Also on topic, I could have sworn he was in armor last time, but I guess not. You'd think he (or whoever would be on duty at the time) would be loaded for bear, considering the Forest and the Court's enmity.

Eglamore's purple circle vs Annie's fire spike i wonder who would win?
the first thing I was reminded of was Katrina in the besieged church scene from Burton's "Sleepy Hollow" Also the Eye of Crom scene from "the Secret of Kells"

Eglamore looks a lot more like his younger self in this page.

It might be that he is the only one always on duty.

Well, this answers some questions.
1. Annie wasn't aiming to kill, just slow her pursuer. I'm assuming that if she wanted to, she could have directed the flame laterally just as easily as she did vertically.
2. The Lamp Posts appear to be intact. I suspect the flame was indeed just an illusion, but a very dangerous one when walking on a bridge with no railings.
Speculation: could the flame be made real by the mind? Could it burn a person, but not an inanimate object? Eggers does back away and shield himself....

Hi everyone. New guy here. I have thought of something interesting. The treatise pages Tom puts up have clues to future events right? Well the last treatise page, found here www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=560, shows Kat leading Annie back to the court from the forest. Possibly hinting that Kat, or at least the thought of Kat, will bring Annie back?

I have but three things to say.
1. Aren't we glad Annie is not so far gone that she'd actually attempt to harm Mr. Eglamore? 2. How awesome is the ether-buster purple chalk? Answer: it is triple awesome my friends. 3. Direct-linking on the forums saps Tom's bandwidth because people don't come here to read the comic. They go to the web site, then come here to talk about it. So it adds at least one extra load per person who comes here. Also, each person usually loads this page multiple times.
Caching can alleviate some of that, but not all of it.

Set it off, and he can be there within five seconds. It's the only thing that makes sense, given how quickly he's shown up both times.

Are they standing on the side of the bridge? The way the poles jut away from the fire looks weird. :/

...Possibly hinting that Kat, or at least then thought of Kat, will bring Annie back? I really like this theory. Good find! The Lamp Posts appear to be intact. I suspect the flame was indeed just an illusion, but a very dangerous one when walking on a bridge with no railings. The lamp posts wouldn't necessarily be destroyed, just scorched. I wonder why he didn't just single-bound over it, though.

Well, I don't htink we can actually tell how long Annie has been running towards the exit. Maybe there was enough time. www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=809Looks like Eglamore was practically right on her heels. She was maybe halfway across maybe when he showed up. But this is all beside the point. I'm mostly concerned about what she's up to. I'm quite certain that she intends to tell Coyote that the Court he's so fond of deliberately trapped his cousin, using her own mother as bait. I'm honestly not sure how he'll respond. Assuming he doesn't already know. He is a god.
