I wonder how much detention you get for leaving school grounds without permission and trying to roast a teacher? So long, summer holiday plans! You could say her vacation plans just went... up in smoke.[/horatio] Absolutely fantastic page, gotta love the flames intermingling with Annie's hair, her running make up and just the fire... wow. The way she is now I wouldn't be surprised if that's real fire.

Hm... She hasn't Blinker stone, has she?
Also: I think, that guy was mr. Eglamore...

Well, blinker stones are only supposed to help focus someone's mind. IIRC Anja or Coyote mentioned that eventually she'd be able to do stuff without the stone. At the start of this chapter we're shown Surma floating around without the stone's help. The chapter's gone full circle by showing Antimony do something similar.

No there were a couple people who were rught on the money with this one. Wait -- when did we abandon the "fire spike as metaphor for menarche" theory? This could be -- um -- the most terrible ever!

That fire is breaking the fourthwall. Time to bring out the marshmallows. Or call the firebrigade. Whichever you prefer.

I thought she just created a wall of fire to prevent that dude from following her, instead of trying to actually burn him? (Since we're looking at the bridge from the side, and the fire appears to spread over the sides of the bridge)

Someone hypothesized that "fire spike" referred Annie's poor temper in light of hormonal changes due to menarche. I was just being silly, here -- if the theory were true there would be implications as to what exactly today's strip means ...

Simply she feels betrayed, as I think... + She knows "history" of GC and Jeanne...

Did... did she just kill someone? Took a good-faith shot at it. It's all over but the results mongering.

Why am I not totally psyched about this? I hope Annie doesn't go on a happy rampage of death.

paxjax123: Nah, of course she won't. She's just trying to get away, and stopping them from following her. Considering the build of the person, I'd guess it was Eglamore, and that he managed to SINGLE BOUND away.

I hope Annie doesn't go on a happy rampage of death. Honestly -- I admit, fully, that I didn't expect this kind of (potentially?) dangerous, reckless behavior on her part. But if she violently killed a member of the court there would be far-reaching implications, expulsion, incarceration, it wouldn't be pretty. I just can't see the comic going in that direction.

Wow. Literal fire spikes. Nobody gets cookie for this one. Beg to differ. I'll accept payment in snickerdoodles. I remember Tom saying Surma could summon fire without a blinker stone (or flint or tinder for that matter) so I guess Annie's reached that level of mastery. I'm looking forward to seeing her evade Eglamore by flying. And does it look like the flames are actually melting the lamps on the bridge? Awesome!

Look at the last panel, you can see the lights on the bridge vaporizing. If that isn't Eglamore or Anja there's a good chance Annie just killed someone. However it is Eglamore so he's just going to do one of those Dragon Jumps or something.
Damn that's a lot of fire!

This is the most literal bridge burning ever. *golf clap* Aw, heck, one for you too. *golf clap* I wonder who she bumps into first? I'm going to guess Ysengrin. Time to wait for Wednesday >:T I really hope it's Ysengrin. I want to see that exchange. He already seems to respect her cunning. She's been assertive in his presence, but this shows she can back that up. It seems like the sort of show he'd appreciate. Although...can you imagine if he refused her entry? Man...I don't think she'd to anything, but that would just be another devastation. I don't see this as necessarily dangerous. She put a wall up, sure, but that bridge is HUGE. It doesn't need to be anywhere near her pursuer.

However it is Eglamore so he's just going to do one of those Dragon Jumps or something. Donald, Anja and Jones should be able to deal with this quite easily, but a normal Court guard would likely die (they couldn't even catch Jack). Eglamore is a Dragon Slayer (may be trained to deal with fire-breath, etc.) and does possess astonishing strength and agility, so he definitely could dodge. However Eglamore is also associated with the alchemic symbol for Lead (which is pretty easy to melt with heat), so if he is hit he'll likely die. We'll just have to see Wednesday. As a side note, lead is next to bismuth on the periodic table, and apparently "can be toughened by addition of small amounts of antimony". Yay for symbolism?

The question of course is how Kat fits into this. If Annie escapes to the forest and holes up, Kat will probably refuse to go on vacation to try to get Annie to come back. I don't see this as necessarily dangerous. She put a wall up, sure, but that bridge is HUGE. It doesn't need to be anywhere near her pursuer. Do you trust Eglamore not to try to get through the fire anyway to prevent Annie from running into the forest? We've been shown several times that he's paranoid about her safety in that place. And whether he succeeds or fails, how is Kat going to respond to the fact that Annie burned her adored Eglamore?

I wonder if Jones was trying to elicit this reaction (or determining how hard it would be to get it) when she was trying to make Annie angry. "It helps me assess your character." Yup.

The perspective on that final bridge shot is really screwing with my head. If it's the angle I think it's supposed to be, it seems like we should be able to see at least a sliver of the top of the bridge. Or maybe it's the way he's drawn a gigantic diffuse light source casting sharp-edged shadows of the kind you normally only get from an intense point light source... which is apparently positioned off one side of the bridge. Otherwise they wouldn't be casting shadows at all. It's all very confusing.

It's a shot from an angle downwards. Apparently.
Wish you weren't here, Eggers.

Following up on the Jones thing... I think that what Annie did today is not that much different from what Parley did here, when gazing upon Smitty's luscious eyebrows. NEW SPEC: Rey and Jones have been plotting to make Annie angry all along! NUUUDGE!

The lights are attached to the side.
