... Favorite sport(s): Martial Arts High five. What discipline? I stopped about 8 years ago (moved out my parents and in with my GF now wife) but I practiced Karate, also attended workshops on other martial arts, such as Jiu Jitsu, Kick Boxing and Greek Roman Wrestling. And I did Judo when I was a young kid, but atm I favour impact martial arts. I really like most of martial arts and would be interested in learning some less ordinary styles to come up with something unique. One of my favourite martial arts movies is Undisputed 2 and 3. But I don't see my self having time or money to practice again any time soon.

I'm not one of them, of course, due to my upbringing in one of the major nations of North America (hint: it's not Canada). Welcome to the forum, sir. I promise to not nitpick at your English unless you ask me to.

(At least, I think that sentence would now be correct? Not sure if 'nitpick' counts as a noun - I usually hear it as a transitive verb.)Hey, you should try to get involved with the translation effort, if the project is still alive! We have no one to translate the comic to Russian (yet!). EDIT: wait no this already exists! And yes, I will someday work on the Spanish one bah once I get off of my pseudo-hiatus.

Real Name: Laura, Nicknames: None IRL, though when I'm going by Katarina Navane as I do in all corners of the interwebs, usually I say "you can call me Kat" although here that would be a bit confusing. Age: 24 Height: 5'10" ish Weight: *shrug* haven't had a scale in the apartment for ages. Probably 130 ish Gender: female Favorite Games (board games, card games or videogames): going with the latter option; Fallen London, Bioshock Infinite, Journeyman Project 3 Legacy of Time, Final Fantasy X, Zeus Master of Olympus, Portal, etc. etc. Samename on steam and battle.net Katarina Navane with a space on Fallen London, feel free to add me on any/all. Favorite Court character(s): Reynard, Coyote, and the robots Favorite sport(s): fencing (which I did in college and still occasionally do now, since that's how I met my significant other, and we both still have our gear) Favorite movie(s): The Prestige, Mirrormask, The Princess Bride, Stardust, Paprika, The Fall Favorite book(s): anything by Neil Gaiman pretty much, also The Princess Bride, Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal, Finally, tell us a little about yourself: well I could tell you but I'd rather show you... my art page: www.facebook.com/demonkittydesignsadditional, I'm in the US, Ohio more originally but currently living in Texas. I've been reading Gunnerkrigg for years, obsessively enough to have edited its tv tropes page, so it's odd that I am only joining the forums now. My main hobby is probably swapping Artist Trading Cards (works of art, 2.5 by 3.5 inches that you trade with other people) which I have done for years, mostly on swap-bot.com (same name there) and in doing so have amassed a collection of roughly 1500 tiny artworks made by other people (I haven't counted in a while, that might be an underestimation).

A book that is both damnably funny and highly educational for every aspiring writer is Dr. Raymond Queneau's Exercises in Style. The plot goes as follows: A rather haughty and insecure young man on a Parisian bus causes a little scene, because he thinks that another passenger intentionally keeps bumping into him. Later, the same young man is walking about the Cour de Rome, accompanied by a friend who advises him to get a new button for his overcoat. This is the entirety of the story, which is told in 99 titled variations, each following a certain stylistic frameset, showing off the possibilities of language.
Many of those variations would be near-incomprehensible if one's mind, while reading, didn't constantly refer back to the plot that one has already discovered; yet the plot in itself is remarkably unspectacular, and by contrast, Queneau's use of language is masterfully evocative. Furthermore, this book demonstrates how the narrator's style always transports certain details better than others. For example, the exact height of the young man's hat, soberly given at a whopping 35 cm in "Precision", confers its ridiculous look much better than any kind of adjective; on the other hand, information about the impact of the other man's bumping into the guy ("involuntary displacements of 15-20 mm") yields no special insight whatsoever. On another, less obvious note, the "Precision" chapter calls the plaited cord around the young man's hat a "ribbon", whereas many of the other narrators prominently state that said cord looks bizarrely unlike the usual ribbons. Such subtleties serve to flesh out the narrative voices as characters - a trick that any good writer must learn to pull off flawlessly.
But most importantly, the book is very funny and engaging. I recommend it! And welcome!
