The way Anja and Annie were talking about it last page, I kinda got the sense that they were just leaving for a weekend. I was wondering if it was for the summer or for some week-long break. But then, I was thinking that it was a time off from school. If it's actually some sort of school-related outing, I could see it only being for one weekend.

... here Annie is, a true neutral party who knows the flaws of both the Court and Wood, and holds the interests of neither one to be more important than the other. Now she finds out that her mom, who was supposed to be that sort of neutral party... Who sets the job description for "medium"? Her mom may have felt she was fullfilling description part of diplomatic corps for humans... you would expect the US ambassador to Russia to favour the americans. Her mom's actions might seem "heroic" by americans if she was part of diplomatic corps, she neutralised the equivilent of a potential rogue nuclear bomb through her "feminine wiles". (Mr. Fox had potential power to wipe out court or large part of it) Jones on other hand sees the role as "true neutral". Thus likely a conflict between the two of them. I was just referring to the purpose of a medium as Annie would see it. I wouldn't even call it speculating at this point to say that Annie has a great dislike to the way the Court makes certain decisions, and now she finds that even her mother was directly involved with one of these cold-blooded schemes, with the boy's death as collateral damage. Less composed teens would dye their hair, wear black, get piercings, and listen to mournful and harsh music. Annie, however, just puts on her Serious Business face.

Agree that Annie has not just met Jack outside the same building, but did she know he would be there, or is this encounter a coincidence?
On a more personal note: Yay, more pictures of Jack for the video I'm planning.

The school year is coming to an end which means it's June. The Donlans are about to go on vacation and take Annie with them as promised from last year when Annie stayed at the school over summer break by herself waiting for her Dad to call and never did. Tom also mentioned a page or two ago about Annie having homework up until the last day. Thanks. I'd wondered about that, but since they were specifically saying "weekend", I thought they might be going away just for the weekend and be back on Monday (or on Tuesday if it was a three-day weekend). I thought the UK school year ran from September to July. And that they have a shorter summer break than US schools because they also have a longer winter break.

Wow, I didn't expect to see Jack again so soon. Still, he's looking much better. I wonder what this conversation will be about if what Max says is true. Can't check, Adam's Formspring search is down. Sorry! AT&T disconnected the place I keep the servers (apparently they have have something of a reputation for this...) My ISP got them to turn it back on, but there was a fair amount of downtime between the 2nd and 5th. I'm looking into setting up an offsite failover, maybe using Heartbeat. Has anyone else had problems connecting, outside the timeframe above? As ever, suggestions and feedback are welcome.

By the way, in Tom's timezone, what time is it when he uploads? And also what timezone is he in?

By the way, in Tom's timezone, what time is it when he uploads? And also what timezone is he in? He's in the UK, so UTC. The servers are located at UTC-8 (California, I think), which would mean they update at 8am for him. Also, Adam, I hope I didn't sound like I was chiding you or anything. But since it's back up, I can confirm that, yes, she has apologized, and vice-versa.

Technically GMT, I believe. GMT has seasonal time changes, UTC doesn't.
Edit: Not saying that's when the comic updates, but my pedantry won't let me pass up the whole 'UTC & GMT are different' thing

Technically GMT, I believe. GMT has seasonal time changes, UTC doesn't. According to Wikipedia, GMT does not change seasonally: during the summer, Brits observe British Summer Time. The only difference is how they are calculated.

Don't worry Max, just thought I should explain. It's kind of annoying when a company you're not even buying service from can disconnect you! My ISP says this has happened to other customers in the area, supposedly this is due to some kind of routing error at AT&T.
By the way, I can provide free webspace for Gunnerkrigg related projects (fan art, etc) -- PM me.

The only difference is how they are calculated. Ah - here, it's Eastern Standard Time (UTC-4) and Eastern Daylight Time (UTC-5), but the time zone is still Eastern Time Zone regardless. I wasn't aware that the zone was technically Western European Time, and that GMT was always UTC+0. Apologies!

At this point we don't know if Annie was expecting to see Jack, or not.
If Jack is sitting in a place where female students, such as Annie, tend to pass by, then we also don't know if Jack was waiting for Annie or not. He could be waiting for her to show up as they prearranged, or waiting for her without prearrangement, or just sitting and thinking - not particularly expecting her to show up, but not surprised either.
By the way, when Tom uploaded this particular page to the server, the time was approximately August 5.
