I just saw this comment on the comic page, and thought it was insightful:
That would be just like Smitty. He not only fixes Annie and Kat's problem, but the bird's as well. ;D
Good call, Jason!

Maybe it was City Face from last chapter, a little grown up, able to fly...
This is an even better example of Smitty's power than putting a deck of cards in order or ruining sims. There is a desired outcome, and it is achieved without him even knowing what it is. Pretty incredible.

THOSE EYEBR-
Wait... if Smitty ever needed to get an important haircut, would he trim his eyebrows?

Ohmygosh you're right! You know what this means? Muut == Bird == Ysengrin == Alistair == Annie's dad, and Coyote, Smit and Kat are all collaborating to punish Muut! So, if she weighs the same as a duck..... she's made of wood? Are you saying Kat is Ysengrin? Hmm...

THOSE EYEBR- Wait... if Smitty ever needed to get an important haircut, would he trim his eyebrows? Maybe Smitty just wants to make sure no Vespa chick ever uses his brain as a portal to summon super guitars from.

That sentence is a work of... insanity or genius, I can't quite figure out which. I recognize all the words, and the grammar seems correct, but my mind refuses to parse it as anything other than gibberish. I assume it's a reference to something?

Even though I've never even watched it, I'd recognize that reference anywhere! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FLCL

The grammar isn't correct, by the way. It should read, "...ever uses his brain as a portal from which to summon super guitars." You're not supposed to end sentences with prepositions.

There's no coherent reason not to use prepositions at the end of sentences, and everybody does it anyway. For very formal writing, it might be advisable to follow that nitpicky little rule. But for a quick FLCL reference on a forum? Nah. It's all good.
I don't really care to argue the exact boundaries between grammar rules that increase legibility and grammar rules the adherence to which marks the dreaded grammar nazi. I just want to think about how cool it would be if Antimony used a guitar to duel Jeanne.

Is there a reason that prepositions are something we're not supposed to end a sentence with?

I believe that most such rules come from Latin. I know that's where the rule against split infinitives comes from: people applying the rules of Latin grammar to English.

So I saw this and thought of Phineas & Ferb.
What necklace is Annie wearing tightly around her neck? Is it just a generic necklace or part of the shirt or something? Is it a neck stretcher?

I'd imagine she'd wear Coyote's super-sharp tooth as another pendant. The girl's collecting quite the odd menagerie of jewelry of late.
Also, the bird doesn't seem permanently hurt, just dizzy. I doubt that's going to get Smitty any bonus points with Kat, as someone said earlier in here.

I sometimes wonder how deep his powers go; whether just individual tasks become orderly, or the events cascade onwards in an ever-expanding orderliness.

Hey, it could have been worse, he could have clobbered another of those mysterious clockwork birds...or maybe he did? Which is why it's still flying?

Which begs to question: Why don't they use him to catch one of those birds? They did say that they've been trying to catch one www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=279

You're not supposed to end sentences with prepositions. Psst... heads up... we're speaking English, not Latin. We can end a sentence with five consecutive prepositions if we want, and have it be perfectly grammatical and intelligible.

I'd actually like to see that... not because I doubt you, but because that would be one awesome sentence!

I'm sorry, but let me repeat and emphasize what most everyone else has also said here, and say that this is a STUPID and nonsensical rule. English works best when you CAN end sentences with prepositions. That's because the structure of English is fundamentally different to the structure of Latin.
I wish that nobody ever mentioned the stupid so-called "rule" you mention ever again. It actively hurts the English language by forcing an unnatural ill-fitting structure on it.

Alright fine! You can end sentences with prepositions! Dang, you make one snide comment about grammar and everybody starts throwing a fit. You guys need to chill.
