You'd be surprised to know how very ugly so many birds are when you look at them closely. I was just wondering something similar, like, if you plucked a pigeon, would its beak look as goofy as the baby bird's does?

This page features proof that that pigeon can dance the lovely dance more better than a city fairy. I bet the proof will grow up to be an excellent dancer, too. Strong and vibrant, already leaping out of its nest and shrieking.

My first thought when I saw that bird, was "It's a young tic-toc that hasn't got any mechanical parts yet". Oh, my friends. I am triple bummed and let me tell you why. It is because my flying attempts are not super awesome. Bandersnatch, 16.07.2010, 12:04am #
I bet Gamma would know how to take care of baby birds. Miram, 16.07.2010, 12:05am #
This looks like a job for an anti-gravity vehicle! Although proteins are cool and all. Nathan Myers, 16.07.2010, 12:13am #
she can keep him and hug him and squeeze him and call him Aly. ^///^ Ichigoli, 16.07.2010, 12:30am #
Look at those pidgeons... They... They're just staring. It's as if they are looking into your soul, and they think what they see is delicious. Of No Importance, 16.07.2010, 12:36am #
Ahh, yes, the demonspawn bird. I am familiar with it. It /is/ occasionally born to pigeons, as a matter of fact. BlaiseIV, 16.07.2010, 12:41am #
"That bird is super loud and triple ugly." "Haha yeah, I hope that girl picks it up soon." Jimbobbowilly, 16.07.2010, 12:53am #
Birds seem to just flock to Kat... xD Boreas, 16.07.2010, 4:29am #
The only thing she apparently knows about birds is what she read from "Ugly Duckling", which is that apparently baby birds are disproportionately hideous compared to their adult counterparts. the fact that its beak is twice as long as the "parents" is making me file this one under the "Good intentions = BAAAAD problems" You'd think she'd have done a little more research on birds after the fling she had with her one feathered friend. Grey, 16.07.2010, 5:10am # I say, Zimmy would know what to do with this bird. Proteins are cool and all. ;D So given that Kat loves birds, and Kat loves robots, how much does Kat love Tic-Tocs? (It's taken me 14 FRIGGIN CHAPTERS to notice this connection > ) But if our Kat is pouting at the robots and acting all-fangirl around birds, what happens then? Cat-sandwich generator?

And what will happen eventually? That Kat realises that arms are just stupid and that her robot gets wings, much cooler ;D Tom, I know you read that, and I know that we both know it's an awesome idea. (You should do it).

You know, my first thought was that those pigeons were thinking, "Did she just insinuate we're the parents of that fledgling condor?" but this thread has proven to me that baby pigeons do indeed look like the fresh-hatched young of fantasy terror birds. Which actually explains the looks of mythological terror birds a lot.
But Kat is a bright young girl in a school. Surely she'll actually send a robot to fetch a book on bird care before adopting it, and ruining the mother's attempts to feed it. Unless, you know, she gets all emotional about it and takes it in before getting a book on bird care. Still, pigeons seem to make good pets, so, yeah, go ahead Kat. Go for it. This is only marginally likely to turn out badly.

Is that bird supposed to be newly hatched? If so there was this place where they had all these chicks hatching I picked up one of hatched ones and showed it the ones still hatching

She found it under some bushes and carried it inside, set it down in front of me, and looked very pleased with herself. It was hideous and mite-infested, but grew to be a very handsome robin. There's a good cuteness rule of thumb: if it can walk as soon as it's laid, it will be a cute chick. If it sits in a nest and waits to have food brought to it, it will be ugly. Walk = adorable feathery puffballs (poultry, waterfowl), while sit = reptilian.

I just keep thinking "rats with wings," and I feel bad because everyone seems to like City Face so much. Still, Kat, if you touch that bird you better use hand sanitizer afterward!

I'm not a huge fan of pigeons in general, but City Face could very well be the greatest character in the history of Gunnerkrigg Court, what with his mad dancing skills and all.
